Karkand is a lot like El Alemin (sp?) in Desert Combat. Everyone loved it but couldn't really explain why. I say everyone as in the majority.
Even the DC devs asked us why we liked it so much so they could produce a map with equal appeal. I think Desert Sheild was the results.
I hated Karkand at first. That's because it was a 64 player server and I only had 15 minutes under my belt. Times have changed and I'm much better. I love that map at the moment.
That's the only map I played in DC and you can't say I did it to rank up points. I always just play my fav map on any game.
For the majority (not all people who play the map constantly) it can be summed up in one word: points.
You can make a killing on the APCs in that map, the tanks, or just reviving as a medic and throwing out health packs. The only better way to get points is find a server running Mashtuur or Songhua on the 64 player version, but have like 30 some odd slots and get in a helicopter and purposely alternate on the flag capping with the other team.
Teamwork in a squad is why I like it.
I didnt care for it to much at first but now it's fun, when you have a good squad running around capping flags, destroying everything in your path to the next flag.
I play karkand alot because I usually play on City Map servers, but I don't get it. I usually get a high score running from flag to flag, but a lot of the time , which side wins seems completely random to me. I guess the real battle is won and lost with everyone rushing at the first flag.
My favorite, though, is Sharqui It has more diverse grounds than Karkand but you can still run rom flag to flag once you get a spawn in the city, clear sky so snipers are a bigger part, even though helos are on the map, there are plenty of buildings for ATs to hide behind so they don't last long, and also, the z-axis comes into play a lot more, which I like
I like Karkand, but that's probably because I don't play it too often. Sharqi is my favourite map as well, and in most games the helis aren't really that bothersome (there are enough AA installations to take out one heli), although they do usually wreck the armour which I think is kinda cool. :) Aside from Clean Sweep, because I loathe that map, I'll play pretty much every map equally. I hate Dalian Plant and Oman when I'm USMC if I ever get stuck on the carrier, but otherwise they're good maps. I guess I don't really care much about getting a bunch of points quickly, so long as I'm having a good time playing.
thats my buggy c4 rapping map ..almost got booted from some lame cuz he was hovering low to kill me in my buggy and he passed right above and quickly jumped out and blew him up, died also but i owned him and said i rammed him when he was flying :/
I have played karkand more than others but i don't realise i am doing it, its just the only urban map which is the type of map people like but EA are dumb asses and didn't put many in.
Karkand is a fun map, and it certainly has an appeal with the dust (less sniping) and no air power. but, like some of the others have said, a variety of play is best. learn all the maps, and the ways to be successful with all the ordinance in the game.
ultimately, everyone has their favorites. I try to have fun whatever map it is, and to help the team win.
I admit karkand is fun, dont get me wrong... I have played Karkand more than any other map, but the fact is, I get bored of the SAME map after a long time. And i still can't understand how people play Karkand for 4-5 hours a day just to rack up points. Seems crazy to me lol. For me, it would seem more of like a job than a leisure activity. I would have to force myself to enjoy karkand for more than an hour or 2 straight, once in a while. Can't even imagine doing it every day.
Infantry combat is where it’s at, no two minute Blackhawk map ownage, or one sided air superiority from ace jet fighter/bombers. I’m hopeful that the next patch evens up the playing field a little for us ground humpers, especially the supposed improved Anti Air.
Once you've played SaK you won't want to go back Try it on a 64 player map with a max player number somewhere between 32 and 50, the game will last longer and you'll have plenty of strategy to cover as 64 sized map opens up a lot of cool places to ambush/be ambushed from.
