    My take on this:

    1. move. keep moving.

    2. try to find where fire came from. If you saw the flash you have a huge advantage. Otherwise knowing the map allows you to know where the enemy can be, and can't be. If you're hit, watch the red hit indicatior to get the general direction. And with experience on a map you know where they will most likely be.

    3. move. keep moving.

    4. Fire some shots into his general direction. Depending how close you are this will usually make him return to cover, or move backwards off the ledge of a roof, or even cause him to change position. While you move yourself, watch if he gives away his position by moving or by further shots.

    5. decide whether to run away, or return fire, or whether to close in. Usually you want to stick with that decision. My instinct is usually something I learned to trust hunting snipers in BF2.

    6. move. keep moving.

    7. move towards visual cover. Continue to close in (hopping from one cover to another) or disengage using cover. Or return fire from the current obstacle you hopefully crawled behind. And don't ever stick your head out in the same spot twice.

    8. When the sniper is really high above, note that cover that appears good for you is no cover at all. From the top of the minaret in Ghost Town, many spots that seem safe from the ground can be seen into.

Whenever you move (read: always, while in the open) try to move not directly in a straight line from or to the known or suspected sniper spot. A straight line means he needs no deviation (is that the right word?) for a shot. Running at a 90° angle means he needs maximum deviation. Makes you a lot harder to hit.

When I know where he is, I usually move onto his position, being a rather aggressive (impatient) player. Usually I find once you know where he is located, your chances of killing him are 80%. Run zig-zag and use cover. He can't react fast with the sniper rifle, only with the pistol, and even then he needs to place multiple hits on you - you being a (hopefully) always running target. Up close, any shotgun, auto rifle or grenade launcher will take him out. Watch for claymores.

If he's on a roof, it might make sense to not climb into his claymores but stop in front of the building and throw a grenade almost straight up. You can't throw them absolutely straight up, they always have some slight tendency forward and will land on the roof and usually take out the sniper (and the medic and the support from his squad camping there)

don't hide in the grass, i have looked across the map at other snipers that thought they were hiding in the grass and they were laying out in the open with no cover.

I hide behind a tree on the down slope of a hill, not on the crest, and peek out from behind the tree and shoot and scoot back behind it.

I have hid from choppers trying to find me this way, just kept the tree between me and them.

I won't give away some of my other tricks because I don't want you guys using my hiding places lol
