Yeah last night I had a guy that insulted me because I wouldnt unlock my squad for him just to spawn on the airfield I mean come on when your spotting for your team on a airfield u dont need a spec ops blasting his weapon like crazy on you.So we had a 15 min arguement why I wouldnt let him spawn so I was called a F** etc etc.

          Also add this.

1.Hide in very dark areas such as a forest flaw.
2.Make sure your on flat terraine and not on a slope.
3.Use grass as extra camoflauge for your rifle and GhillieSuit.
4.make sure , IF you call for supplies its well out of your zone that your sniping.
          5.Breathe before you shoot.
6.Dont plant calys because, the enemy might come and step on one and that would of course let them know where you are.
7.Always aim for the left or right upper chest on moving target for 1 shot 1 kill or head shot.
8.Dont stand or lye down on roof tops.
          9.Use the terrain well.
10.BE PROUD TO WEAR THE UNIFORM.

And only shooting when you have a definate kill...we do get assist points... alot of assist points and it helps the team. so obviously that's wrong.

but if thats what you want to do...fair play to you.

how you use the kit is up to you..kill or recon..whatever youre good at with whatever kit.

Huh? I thought only headshots were 1 shot kills (neckshots may be too). I don't think upper chest shots are 1 shot kills though!

I think he was getting carried away and blurring RL with the game...

I don't snip much as I don;t really have the patience for it and I hate being so defenseless against everything.

As a frequent sniper target and thus later snper hunter I can give some hints..

If sniper fire starts coming in the first place I look for is any high ground as the first mistake is to get somewhere high where you can see everything. This is a mistake because everyone can see you and your light armour and slow firing weapon is not really up to a heavy firefight...

If that does not do it (and to be honest most of the time it does) then start looking for bushes and windows. Also note that the MEC sniper kit is a fairly dark colour and where you might have been safe in the US kit, in the MEC one you are plainly visable.

Your biggest threats are Spec Ops with the G36C and especially the Medic with the L85A1 because that little baby will help him spot you from a significant distance and to accurately lay fire on you too.

                      Re: Sniper guide

If you want to know how to snipe in BF2, go read Enemy at the Gates, or any other Russian front sniper story.

What you are doing in BF2 isn't real "sniping", it is assault sniping. The idea is to support the assaulting troops by removing high threat targets.

Unfortunately BF2 doesn't really allow you to do this. High threat targets are alwasy bunny hopping and M203'ing, and high value targets are indistinguishable from normal troops. Who is the enemy squad leader.

The closest you can get to this is removing the Medics from the fight.

While you _can_ do the whole 1-shot-1-kill, death unseen, don't run you'll only die tired type of sniping, there are a couple of major drawbacks. One being the fact you light up with a red nametag if the enemy can put their mouse over your location, as well as the forced limited view distances.

The best thing for sniping is to choose your location wisely. While high up areas do give the best vistas, they are also quite well knows. Sometimes it is worth going up to the well known spots because you can get to less well known ones from there. For example in Mashtuur City the building at Backyard overlooking the Mosque is a favourite sniping spot of many people. Try go to the top and then jump to the adjacent building. While you can't see the Mosque plainly, you cans till dominate the water approach, the backyard, and the building spawn of the Mosque, but your position is less obvious.

People advocate the "shoot and scoot" tactic. I do as well, but don't move that often. Decide where you want to shoot and aim there, then wait. Movement attacts attention, even in a PC game. Once you shoot, assess the situation. If you got a clean kill, you can probably do it again.

IF you killed in 2 shots, and he stil hadn't located you, you can probably do it again, but if you had a long drawn out sniping fight, and he was shooting back at you, or he indicated he knew where you were, bug out.

But bug out smart. Don't stand up and run away if they are looking at you. Crawl away, then crouch, then run. Don't make your exit obvious. If you can, use a claymore to mine your hiding spot, they will possibly come looking for you.

When choosing a location, try not to sillouette yourself on the sky line, take a position just below the ridge, so you can escape over it quick.

Chose a position that provides a lane of fire that is un expected, and it doesn't have to be too wide. You can get some wicked 150m shots and people won't know where you are because it is a different sniping spot. Choose it wisely and it won't be a problem if you do't have 360' view.

On a setup side of things, always set your graphics view distance to 100%. There is no point in using anything less because you will just get counter-sniped by someone who has 100%...

                      Thats about all. :)

[Edit] Don't forget to spot things. It doesn't hurt you.

I respectfully disagree....I only spot vehicles when I use the sniper kit, and only vehicles because I can't kill them(although 2 well placed claymores will clean out a nice squad in an APC, but requires some foresight). When I see infantry,I KILL THEM...I know it seems strange, but I find it helps my team to have a few less people running at them with noob-tubes.
As opposed to real life, I can respawn and I don't mind dying at all. In BF2, being killed by a sniper(in any situation) will make that other guy think twice before taking that route again. And,if nothing else, those infantry you take down from long range or short, are certainly going to be more cautious next time they spawn.
A sniper in BF2 can be absolutely deadly in slowing an enemy force down. Wait for assaulting a flag to kill people? Hell no, I prefer to be the first one there using my rifle to keep the enemy under cover or picking off weak sheep so when my squaddies arrive they have a much easier time taking a flag. At long range, there are very few weapons that an enemy has that can take me down. Anyone that wears a pretty beret and has those da*n M4 type weapons or has a sniper rifle dies first, as they are the only two people I fear will kill me at long range. If you kill a guy in 1 or 2 shots, odds are he has no clue where you are hiding just general direction...so the need to relocate is not that great, in fact, I find more people will see you when you get up to run away then if you just stay there.
