I do things like this all the time, that took about 20 minuites of my time, and my comp is so ****ed up I can't play anything at the moment.

I just really want a central place for people to go for all the sniper things in cone convienient place.

It's alright. As someone else said though, you need to spell check a bit, for something that is to be a central point for sniping tips.

Research (Nielsen, Web Design if anyone wants to read it up) suggests that on average, people read ALL CAPS about 30% slower than regular text.

Thats what I think. Get rid of the ALL CAPS. It hurts the eyes.

Furthermore, if taken to that level of "realism", a) I tend to agree with Apathy and b) write a sniper guide for Operation Flashpoint. References to the reality of sniper warfare just don't mix well with BF2 ...

Oh, and get yourself a copy of Carlos Hathcock's book "Marine Sniper" (by Charles W. Henderson - on amazon.com, unsure if I may post link here) or any of his bios, he's the top ranked marine sniper of all times. This (or any other good sniper book) will give you some insight into sniper warfare beyond "be a killing machine". The reality is that the guy at times crawled on his elbows for days with merely no water inch by inch to get one shot at one target. This, again, has nothing to do with BF2 sniping whatsoever.

"Shooter" is a good book too. It goes into more detail about how snipers have changed in the latest wars.

If you're sniper, then just get this one fact through you're head. You are NOT a killing machine.
You job is to observe enemy activity behind the front line. This information will be vital to your team. You may only fire your weapon on two conditions.
The first condition is when you are spotted. Relocate to another area. If a few enemy forces are chasing you, then shoot.
Second condition is when your team is assaulting the enemy position. Take careful aim (that means don't waste an entire clip on one soldier) and choose your targets wisely. Try to get the spec-ops and anti-tank first. If these two classes are eliminated, then your team's armor will go mostly unchallenged.

They are also great at observing and reporting enemy movements, but that is not there reason for existing. You may fire your weapon on any occassion. Snipers are great at defending multiple flags from a single location. They are also great at tying up enemy resources while they scamper around trying to figure out where you are and who your next victim will be. They are great at countering enemy snipers (my favorite activity - I'll happily kill three enemy snipers in a round as compared to a dozen regular soldiers). A sniper has many roles to play, but most assuredly it's primary role is that of a killing machine.

Ye good point, ive tried to make this point myself.

good example "always relocate after sniping" ...almost always a bad idea.

Until we get points for pointing things out...killing (or injuring) people will be our prime objective.

Actually, you are wrong. Not only is the role of a sniper in active military duty different, but even the dictionary definition of sniper says other wise. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sniper

A snipers primary role is recon. They are unarmored because not only are they not meant to be found, but they need to move unheard, and very slowly, for long periods of time. Most often, a sniper will only carry more rations than a normal soldier, his rifle, a side arm, and his camo gear, as well as a "sleeping bag" which isnt used for sleeping, but to help conceal his position.

They are also called in for one or 2 kills, like for an assination. A sniper is anything but a killing machine. A snipers sole function is to act as recon for advancing troops. A killing machine is assault, or special ops. Even then, special ops primary role is to go in covertly without arousing suspicion or alerting the enemy, and to achieve their primary goal, usually to destroy ordinance, or gather intel. They are almost as stealth as a sniper, but they are in the midst of battle, going unseen, while a sniper is not in the midst of battle, but usually ahead of their advancing team.

One thing is absolutly certain, a sniper will never waste ammo, will always do whatever is neccessary to stay concealed and unknown, and provide as much information as possible for his forces, so they are well aware of enemy movements. They are also expected to be able to call in an air strike, or artillery when needed, as they are the first to spot whatever it is that needs to be destroyed before his forces have advanced to that area. The term 1 hit 1 kill applies to all snipers. If you cannot take down a target with one shot, then you wait until you can.

EDIT: I think we do get points for spotting enemy movements, for teamwork I think it is.

You people this **** so seriously. If you need a guide on how to snipe, uninstall. It's common sense. You try and bring all the real world tactics into a game that for the most part won't work. It would be completely different if you didn't get to respawn.

Keep working on it, add some actual tips for BF2 and you may have yourself a winner.
