      Re: Unforgivable for Marines

I bought the game knowing it would be arcade and not realistic. If we are going to talk about realism what about limping after being shot in the leg, blood loss etc etc. Or even with regard to sniping - how about finding the second stage of a two stage trigger (if they use two stages)?

Wars are fought due to politics - why not factor those in too? You could have the media following the squads around. What about the loss of seeing a friend die? What about dying yourself?

      No half measures, eh?

And why should the .50 not be a one hit kill? Because its an arcade game, thats a BS excuse. Plenty of 'arcade' style games have had a one hit kill rifle, and it doesn't ruin anything, in fact, it makes the game better. IF the unlockable rifle was better, more people would get it, spreading out classes so we dont get a bunch of people running in the middle of karkand with their m203s out or just vehicle whoring.

if you want realism, go and get Operation Flashpoint, or wait for Armed assault and Operation Flashpoint 2 to come out, it doesnt get any real than that (other than engine limitations) it will guarantee to satisfy you

First off, if these are Marines that are portrayed in BF2, why is there an SF Kit and not Force Recon Kit?! Marines don't have Special Forces personnel they have Regimental and Division Reconnaissance.

Second, if these are Marine Snipers, why are they using a M24??? Marine Snipers use a weapon system called the M40. At least when I was a Navy Corpsman assigned to 3rd Batallion 5th Marines STA platoon, that's what they were using... a M40. It may be the same model rifle and same caliber, but the parts on it (like the stock, barrel, and/or the scope) are different from the M24.

Third, why does the sniper take his eye off the scope when pulling back the bolt on the "M24"? USMC Snipers are taught not to take their eyes off the scope AND not to use the magazine, but to instead load every round individually into the chamber.

Fourth, why the heck is the range and accuracy on the M95 so horrible? This is a rifle that has a world record shot of over 2430 meters by a Canadian Sniper!!! For more info on the specifics check: http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/KillingShot_2430Metres.asp.

Fifth, why is the damage from that rifle so negligable??? I'd be more than happy to forward a video clip of a .50 Barrett in action taking out mountain goats... lets just say RED PASTE!!!!!!! If the damage from the rifle is such an issue, make it only attainable at a higher rank, say Sergeant. (You generally have to be a Corporal anyways to be a USMC Sniper or at least be a CPL when you graduate Sniper School... that's the way it was on Camp Pendleton anyways)

Sixth, how come when using the sights of any rifle do you still get a spread pattern??? If I can use my rifle full auto and can manage to keep the crosshair on the target, why don't the bullets hit where the crosshair says the bullets should impact. I can understand spread patterns when not using the sights... but when using them there should be no deviation whatsoever. I mean... recoil has already been factored in when using sights, so why still incorporate the spread pattern... not realistic... not realistic at all.

Seventh, what about the 40mm grenades from the M203? The damage effect is pathetic. Killing radius is 16ft and Casualty radius is 427ft check stats here: http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/infantry/grenade/40mm_ammo.html

Thanks for listening to my gripes and moans... Just kind of dissappointing that all of this wasn't factored into the game. I don't think it would detract from gameplay at all... sure it would make snipers a little more powerful once they attain the M95, but guess what folks... in real life, one sniper team (2 Marines) has the equivelant importance of a whole battalion of Marines (3000 men). The Assault Kit would be a little bit more important now... but hey... that's why snipers have a Targets Of Opportunity chart... Weapon systems with area effect are among the high priority targets :)
1- Force Recon: It's a game. As previously well stated. Seen any completely accurate war movies lately?

2-M40: Good point. Change of skin. The awards aren't real either. No biggie.

3-Eye off the scope: Hold your fire button in, instead of clicking it, to view down range.

4&5- M95: Agree. Aim for the head.

6- Spread Pattern: A pain in the ass. Incorporated to make the game more balanced and teamwork oriented. Shoot slow bursts and play tactically. Spray and pray = death.

7- M203: Killing radius on M79 Fragmentation Grenade is 5 meters. Casualty radius is 15 meters (meaning 95% chance of inflicting a schrapnel wound). M203 replaces the M79 in the game and the physics were modified slightly only to accomondate the fact that it is a chamber fired projectile. Splash damage was not adjusted to maintain the integrity of the game's balance. (There's that word again.... "game.")

Closing Comments: The mission of USMC snipers is more sensitive than that of infantry. They are valuable when mission accomplishment depends on the elimination of single specific targs, and/or intel gathered via survailence. The grunts role is to seek out and close with the enemy and their contribution to mission accomplishment is generally warrented whether the sniper's target is eliminated or not. (So says my Green Monster)

My suggestion: Relax and play the game with good company and a hearty lager. Chesty would have wanted it that way!

Oh just to add if the .50 cal sniper was one shot kill on maps as big and open as they are in this game, it would simply be impossible to go anywhere without getting in armour. On an average 64 player server, there are usally about 10 snipers on each team already and that would probably go up to 25 if it was a 1-shot kill

To the post starter, go download America's Army, on www.americasarmy.com

                      1. It's free.
                      2. It was made from the army.
                      3. It's the most realistic war game for PC ever made.
                      4. It has breathing
                      5. Snipers are on shot kills (yes even the M24)
                      6. There's lots of training with weapons.
                      7. If you can't work together you guys suck.
                      8. If you suck at the game you won't last a minute.
                      9. It even has breathing for every single weapon.
                      10. Even if you ace the marksmanship training like i did (39/40 on first try) you'll still suck at the game online until you play it for another month at least.
                      11. TKs count a lot, especially in the first minute of the game.
                      12. There's no stat padders becuase there's nothing to gain except honor.
                      13. If you camp in a bad place you will get killed immediatly.
                      14. THere's no tanks, or any vehicles at all, so it's impossible to get whored by vehicles.
                      15. Snipers have bipods and are extremely accurate when prone and bipod deployed, even with breathing.

Nice post sniperdoc. but people are going to hate because they love their bf2. they should at least get the names right of the soldiers fighting. That doesnt affect gameplay.

America's Army... played it (honor was 48 i believe). It's probably one of the best games I've played yet. But if you don't play in TWL or CAL then forget it... too many hacks... seen'em even checked some of them out... that's not the way I want to play. Plus there's still way too many bugs like getting stuck on a frickin' rock on the ground while in a full run. Love the CSAR map though.

Operation Flashpoint, yep another great game, for some reason, won't play on my XP SP2 anymore. (I work in the IT field now, so I've done all the different drivers, updates, reinstalls, etc etc...) Think it may be cause of my overclocks. Well, it plays but it crashes a lot.

Gotcha... I understand the role... been there done that... thanks. Want me to quote the definition of a hog?? Or the role... or all the other sh1t we had to memorize?

I understand it's a game... but if you're gonna reference something realistic like the Marines... then get it right. No wonder todays American Juvenile society is dumber than the older generation. It's because things are quoted incorrectly and people take for granted that it's the right thing. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm trying to set the record straight because most of todays kids don't know, then play a game like this, and then think the information they're fed is proper. I'm sure the Army wouldn't appreciate their Delta being called Para Rescue or SEALs... some people take pride in what they do or what unit they are a part of...

If you're gonna send a message about any Service or Force, at least portray the right content instead of falsifying it. No need to make our children more ignorant.

It's a game, and they need to provide balance. A long distance one shot one kill weapon does not provide balance, just a way for people to get easy kills.

Both prior Battlefiled titles had one head shot one kill sniper rifles and it was never an issue. When you consider the M203, GP30, and rocket launchers (maybe the best sniping weapon in the game), would a more powerful sniper rifle really make things unbalanced? With the range and accuarcy issues it's still way more challending to pull of a head shot on a moving target than to lob a M203 round at someone's feet.
