sorry dude, but the effect stealth has in air superiority is devastating, and the fact that the US is the only country to have stealth aircraft gives that argument a good run for its money.

again, how is it gonna be shot down? From 40 miles away it will spot the enemy aircraft. From 20 miles away it will open fire and destroy all enemy aircraft. If there are any remaining, they will have a tough time spotting the the f22 unless they were probably a few miles away, and even then they would be going in and out of radar. The mig 29s aviaonics is inferior even to the f15s. Just like in the mock dogfight that shows the effectiveness of stealth, you spend all your time looking when theyre on your tail.

I'm an aeronautical engineer, and as far as im concerned you're all missing the point. Having the most effective air force is not about having the most expensive air superiority fighter. It's cool in games though, and nice to make discovery channel shows on how fast your $50 mil plane goes, but it means squat. Gen. G. Patton had a policy of shooting down anything in the sky in Vietnam, because of the number of friendly fire casulaties from jets. Maybe it's the pilots, or the planes. In any case, air superiority is a magical fairy world created by America to make them look good. But it's all going to **** now, because Russia and China and everyone else is wising up. Politically it's also backfired, America constantly has to purchase outdated fighers such as Israeli and Saudi F-16's in order to keep them out of the hands of "unfriendly" nations. Perception is reality. Oh no, am I talking myself out of a job? ... Not with you people filling 13 pages of forum posts with your crap theories on flashy but useless weapons. You wanna go to war, gimme one B2 with a nuke strapped on its ass. Boom.

Stealth doesn't give you any "air superiority".

Russians got their hands on remains of F-117 (shot down in Serbia, in 1999). So, US is probably not the only one anymore with details about stealth technology, but I don't think Russians will bother with it - they have different strategy.

Stealth is worth against 3rd world countries (aka "mickey mouse countries") who can't afford to buy equipment which can detect 'stealth' planes. Won't be worth against Russia, China, etc.

Actually stealth fighters/bombers are more effective against countries like china and russia, not so much against 3rd world countries who cant even shoot down regular fighters and bombers...

The russians dont have the financial means to develop an effective method of detecting stealth aircraft, let alone create a stealth plane of their own. The radar signature of an F117 is much different from a B2 bomber or Raptor. So a method of detection that works on an F-117 wont work on a B2 or Raptor which are MUCH more advanced.

theoretacly, wouldnt a heat seeker missile be able to spot a "stealth" aricraft?? i mean nowadays most missles are using radar guided. since all planes create heat from the engines... i mean a very highly advanced heat seeker missile

The raptor project was almost canceled by the way. And the Commanche project too. Why? Because there's no need for a new expensive plane when your old ones still do the job and you have a huge deficit. Only reason we keep making new planes is people who keep the hope of new War alive and people who create these new planes and heli and profit from it. And I dont see why they do.

Weapon experts and aeronautical engineers my ass. Look up the F-22 on google for some news reports and testing information. The U.S ownz the fastest fighter jet. F-22 flys at TWICE the speed of sound without afterburners. Its detection range and stealth ar damn well amazing. There was a recent mock test done in Europe that pit all the curent fighters and those close to being out of prototype stage. No need to say who came out on top.

Look online and get info from leading military specialist and internation experts before u listen to people on this board.
