I'm another arrow key user. I just can't get used to the wasd. My son has his configured that way and everytime I use his machine, I catch myself always looking down to see the keys, which isn't so good in a firefight.


I have my reload buton set to the delete key, jump is my right ctl or flares when in a helo or plane, enter vehicle is num pad 0 and prone is num pad 1. This works well for me.

I use the WASD keys to move i just got used to them ever since the first time i played Jedi Knight 2

Evil was talking about using the UHJK keys which sounds very interesting to me also i use a 5 button mouse and i use the side buttons to crouch and prone but i'm thinking of making the crouch button a weapon button so i can switch faster sometimes i have a hard time reaching the 5 or 6 buttons when things are getting hot and since i'm a medic i use those quite often

I have been playing FPS since the very beginning, I'm 23 years old and since the beginning I have been playing with arrow keys. I never learned myself to play with w,s ect. Who of you also plays with arrow keys ? And does playing with arrows have a disadventage ? Is it for noobs?

I too play with arrowkeys and all my hotkeys are within reach of the arrow key area. I need a smaller keyboard :cry:

I am a WASD user too, it is just when I was setting up my controls, I saw that I could use those stupid windows keys as actual buttons (in other games I end up hitting it by accident and, because the screen goes down, I get killed). So I switched over. Now I have the three under my thumb. I use them, from left to right, as jump, crouch and sprint. It took no time to get used to.

I have the 8 button mouse, which I have weapon 3 and 4 under (main and secondary weapon) under my thumb, Mouse 3 is reload, mouse 1 and 2 are fire/secondary fire and the top button is for the request orders rose, the bottom two are for spotted rose and speak.

I swear it is the bets non-special keyboard set up. :)

Seriously, I have no idea how you play with the arrow keys, it just doesn't have nearly enough access to other keys as I would like.

I think the guy who invented the keyboard was left handed because its obvious the arrow keys are designed for movement when playing games.

I'm not ingame so I don't know for sure, but I guess it also depends what class you're playing. As a support guy, you want to make sure you can prone pretty fast (supposedly) and so you probably want to be close to the prone button (z I thought). Stuff like that could help you decide...

I use the arrow keys with all the other functions assigned to keys surrounding them. I find it easier and I'm less likely to press a wrong key in the heat of battle (because of all the gaps) and now its becoming second nature to me so I know where my figures are at all times.

I started out with the arrow keys, but then moved to the w,a,s,d keys. I use the arrow keys when I am flying.

Although I do hit the E key when I mean to hit the W key. Sucks when you're in a vehicle and do that, especially a flying one.

I've never used a joystick or gamepad for a game.

Because I always reload when I have about 10 bullets left and there's no enemy around. Don't wanna run in to an enemy with 2 bullets in my clip. Really how many times do you shoot all your clips empty before you die ?

I usually reload after taking someone out if there's no one else around. I hate coming up on somone and finding out I had two shots in a clip left after I shoot them.

He was probably right handed if he played Doom Right hand on arrow keys for movement and left hand for switching weapons/pressing the use key for doors/holding the alt key for strafing

Wasn't really until Quake came out that ppl really started to use the mouse for changing directions.

I game with the arrow keys (and the surrounding buttons) for really quick action, nades, crouch (kneel in this game), etc. I find WASD to be awful.

with everything surrounding the arrow keys that I need, plus any stuff assigned to mouse buttons, I can react fast and everything is where I need it and CLOSE together.

I don't play FPS games very much until BF2 came along... but I play 100% with keys... I can even fly better with the keys than I can with the stick. It's just something you get used to over time.
