I have been playing FPS since the very beginning, I'm 23 years old and since the beginning I have been playing with arrow keys. I never learned myself to play with w,s ect. Who of you also plays with arrow keys ? And does playing with arrows have a disadventage ? Is it for noobs?

No problem playing with arrow keys for me as long as I angle the keyboard away from me slightly.
I doubt it makes too much of a difference. -

I find that since WASD are the same shape as the arrows, it makes little difference to me. I just prefer WASD because it's further left on the keyboard, which suits me because my mouse is in my right hand, to the right of my keyboard. I guess you could just move your keyboard along more, so that doesn't matter.
but mainly, WASD is closer to other keys you might want to use.Comment

This is the first game that I've used the W-A-S-D config for. I didn't feel like rearranging all the keys this time. I've come to find the the W-A-S-D is a little more comfortable, since I don't have to slide my keyboard half-way across my desk, to used the arrows.Comment

Didn't it take long to learn? My reason not to change my way of playing is that it would take to long to come to the same level of skill after a decade of playing with arrows. Also do I think I would be pressing the keys around it accidently.Comment

you'll get used to the wasd keys.
i'm 25 and have NEVER played any PC game other than the nba live series (which i use a controller) so bf2 was my game using the wasd keys for movement. it will seem awkward and confusing for the first few days but after a while, like everything, you get used to it.Comment

I have been playing first person 3D games since Wolfenstein and Ken's Labyrinth
HECK...I used to use the left mouse button for forward and the right mouse button for backward for the longest time!!! This was due to playing the original Descent for hours and days on end.
I managed to switch to arrow keys when I realized how ridiculous this way was and I used the arrow keys until just after I stopped playing Quake 3.
I believe the change to WASD came about when I started playing BF1942 because the controls suddenly became a LOT more complicated
Then..I bought the Nostromo n50 to play BFV (which I recently upgraded to the n52 for BF2) and I don't use keyboard WASD at all now.Comment

I always use arrow keys. I have been using arrow keys since Wolfenstien 3d came out so changing now would be pretty tricky for me. It really does not make a difference what you use though. Its just personal preference.Comment

When I first started playing Doom and Quake, I would use the arrows and only use the mouse for firing. The left and right arrows were set to turn, not strafe. This made me move around like a total newbter! Not only that, but moving the mouse up and down didn't make me look up and down, so I pretty much looked straight ahead the whole time, unless I felt like reaching up to the PgUp/PgDwn to look up and/or down. But now, WASD and everything like strafing, looking up/down is second nature. 8)Comment

I personally use UHJK because it gives me 3 buttons under my thumb, as opposed to just the space bar.
But seriously, it isn't that difficult to switch. WASD or UHJK are almost the same exact shape as arrow keys. The only thing that might be hard for you to learn when you switch (and yes, you SHOULD switch. Having more keys right at your finger tips is key) is that you don't have to jump from the arrow keys to \ to reload. All you would have to do is move your pointer finger from D to E (or some other easy movement). It might take you a few days to get used to your new key configuration, but it is WAY better for everything other than moving. For moving, it is exactly equal.
And what kind of mouse do you have? How many buttons? How do you utilize them?
For complicated games like these key configuration is an important step towards good play. The arrow keys are just too far away from other keys. It is WAY better to be on your keyboard.
IMO, the best position IS UHJK, not WASD. As I said above WASD limits the number of buttons you have under your thumb to 1 while UHJK gives you 3. I suggest you switch immediately.Comment
