I use arrow keys and I'll never use WSAD. I like the extra space around my arrow keys and I still have plenty of options for binds (del, end, pgd, [, ], \, Enter, Shift, Control, Alt) and easy access to the number pad - plus 5 buttons on the mouse.

And actually, having my keyboard slid over to the left makes room for my joystick between my keyboard and mouse. Works out well!

I find that since WASD are the same shape as the arrows, it makes little difference to me. I just prefer WASD because it's further left on the keyboard, which suits me because my mouse is in my right hand, to the right of my keyboard. .

iuse arrow keys to move, 0 on num to crouch, right ctrl to jump, middle mouse to prone, and END to reload

I have always used WASD, but now that I think about it, maybe binding everything I need to the num pad might work better.

They are aligned straighter than keyboard, and there is ALOT of keys really close by.
So if 8 was forward, 5 was back etc, you could cram a ton of controls into that area. You might have to get used to using index for ancillary crap like scores and squads, but thats not big deal.

Anyone out there tried this?

i find arrow keys easier hence there is more space between keys so u dont accidentally press the reload key when ur in a hot firefight when ur clips r still full...heres how my key works...

up, down, left, right= arrow keys
reload=right shift
crouch=right ctrl
prone=page down
jump=small key pad 0
sprint=small key pad 1
enter/exit vehicles=enter
pick up kits=end

and punish/forgive = small keypad 7/8

so its actually easier for me :)

I'm a weirdo.

I use d/f/g/mouse2 (rmb) for movement. I picked up the mouse2 thing when playing original quake/quakeworld, and I use dfg not asd or sdf because I like having lots of keys in easy reach of my little finger. DFG == lots of keys available all around for extra functions.

Of course I originally did this for QWTF where, given the classes in it and macros/binds, I NEEDED 50 zillion keys to be able to do everything. But I stick with it now.

It reminds me of the time I played Qauke on a PS and I had to have look up and look down on the shoulder buttons. . .that really sucked.

i use the arrow keys for Counter-strike, and W,A,S,D for BF2. I have been using the arrow keys for CS since 1998. And when i bought BF2, i was to lazy/excited to change all the keys to the right side of the keyboard. It was easy to pick up using W,A,S,D. I think it takes some time to get use to the arrow keys. And all the Cal-i tournaments i've been to, most people use the arrow keys.

I prefer using WASD because it's closer to other keys like "r" to reload and "c" to crouch.

Here's mine:

Arrow keys: left, right, forwards, backwards
Prone: \
Jump: Right Shift
Crouch: Right Ctrl
Sprint: Num 0

Pistol: End

Reload: 3rd button mouse

Noticed recently that I've been hitting enter instead of \ to go prone and the spawn select screen comes up in the middle of a fight

Maybe I should go with the U,H,J,K setup....will try this weekend.

I have been using the Belkin Nostromo series and its just a fantastic solution to all the keyboard issues. I used to use the arrow keys and that made me have to find just the right keyboard that had lots of buttons right above them. My big fingers on a wasd config are no good due to wrong button presses. Now thats a thing of the past. The nostromo is the way to go.
