So why did they leave in artillery? Its hardley realistic is it?

Guerilla warfare on a city streets with artillery raining down on civillians and your own troops? I think not.

Apart from the realism issue (which isn't always a issue with bf2) it ruins the map not because its unbalanced because yes both team have it but just because it means you die over and over again needlessly which takes away the fun factor.

i agree, the arty on this map is just ridiculous. can you disable arty for a map on servers? like in other games you could disable certain weapons.

Not really, artillery is a defensive as well as offensive tool for the commander, it's good for breaking deadlocks in certain area's and defence of rear bases.

Yeah bunny hopping was born in Quake 1 I think going from memory. It was actually far worse in that game though as due to a bug each hop when going forward used to increase your forward speed so you ended up with players leaping around the levels doing 60Mph.

Personally I like bunny hoppers. The feeling when you shoot one out of the air is great Sprinting works far better than bunny hopping anyway but these guys have not learnt this yet.

          ^^^ erm......what?

This isn't a thread about bunny hoppers! :p

(although on a side note i don't think bf2 has a bunny hopping problem as when you jump it uses loads of your sprint so if someone does hop then your more likely to kill them anyway)

In theory that sounds fantastic. Unfortunately on Karkand it's just another misused offensive weapon.

yep its overused and often used at your spawn. And like i said its highly unrealistic i mean come on even the Americans don't shell civillian areas when there own men are in there.

                  APCs are more annoying.

I agree. It's way too easy for commanders to rack up kills with arty on SaK due to the dense population of soldiers on the map. Also, the artillery regenerates so quickly that it seems like it's a non-stop barrage.
Here are my thoughts on why artillery on an urban map is bad:
-You don't even need engineers to fix broken arty, all commanders have to do is drop supply crates near them and they get repaired. That should go.
-Artillery often interrupts and destroys compelling firefights on the the street. I get frustrated quickly when a semi-dramatic flag defense/capture gets broken up by a bunch of bombs smashing into the ground.
                    -Too frequent
-It makes digging in and fortifying positions impossible since you can expect to be blown to pieces in 30 seconds or less(especially at the train accident/MEC HQ mess)

I wouldn't mind at all seeing artillery disappear from that map. I love a good ground fight and hate to see it messed up by unanswerable blasts that come every minute.

I agree. Not for realism really, but it is the most annoying thing ever on a map like Karkand. The more teamwork you use, the bigger the target you are, therefore deminishing teamwork.

Without artillery, Strike at Karkand would be a frag fest.

Nothing wrong with arty. Im sure the oposite team will feel the same about you using arty on them! If you want realisim, play a different game!

Exactly. Spawn camping APCs are *far* more annoying than any artillery strike could be.

I like artillery. It's dramatic, and breaks up boring stalemates.

but in real life you dont respawn in 15 secs and have the ability to punish the commander
