Why do people care if someone else "stat pads"?

I always read on these forums or in the punkbuster forums about people who "stat-pad," i.e. throw medic packs, ammo packs, reviving people, etc. etc. Why do people complain about that?

I mean really, does it honestly bother you if someone else gets points? Who cares? Isn't the point of this game to have fun? And if you are really that worried about someone else getting all the points, then why don't you "stat-pad" yourself? I just don't really get it when people complain about "cheaters" who "stat-pad." First of all, it's just a game, and second of all, why is it such a big deal if someone else gets points for themselves?

Also.......I know there's a lot of complaining about tk's too. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as annoyed with them as the next guy, but when it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter. Who cares if you get -2 points ya know? Stuff like that is probably better off being forgotten so you can just enjoy the game without worrying about things like points and rankings.

        I will tell you why.

        Teamkilling........................

Picture this situation. It's 9pm, you were kept up at work, but you finally came home. You grab a beer, sit in your comfy computer chair and decide to spend a couple hours playing BF2 and relax.

You join a server (something that usually takes a while if you like a specific type of gameplay/map).

You place some mines in an area where friendly vehicles simply should not be. A full truck of friendlies rolls over the mines. All punish you. Kick + Ban. And this is your favorite server that's hard to get into.

So, you get ****ing pissed, or atleast I do.

        Stat padding........................

Some people take gaming seriously.. just like sports. You won't believe the **** I've seen when golfers get angry with their shots. It's golf.. right? No, it's a personal hobby that someone takes seriously.

        And in closing...............

You're tired of people complaining about TKs and stat padding (yet you are actually complaining about complainers, no?), and I'm tired of silly kids building up their own egos by pretending that they don't understand why certain people take gaming more seriously than others. I've heard it all "you have no life", "just mellow out and have fun", "whats the big deal", "its only a game", etc etc.

How's this.. you play the game how you want. Others will play it how they want and we all have a jolly good ****in time blasting each other's heads off :)

If you stat pad then you ruin the entire point of the ranking system. Some people like to earn their rank and be ranked along with other people who earned it. They don't want some padders showing up on their stat boards.

At least that's what I think.

You'r prob right =LAF=Pilioka but I don't understand it either. Now I could if it meant that people could unlock weapons that could be used against me but with the amount of points it takes at the moment to unlock the 'stat padders' deserve to get an extra weapon if they're willing to spend days doing nothing but supplying and throwing nades :)

Allow me to break your post down and address each issue you bring up separately.

This type of gameplay is not considered 'stat padding.' This type of gameplay is a demonstration of solid teamwork and dedication to helping your team win the match.

People that stat pad do not earn their points, ribbons, medals or awards. These people take away from the over all 'fun factor' of the game by receiving gold medal after gold medal every map with their 200+ point maps. This does not allow the 'honest' players to receive gold medals for their hard won efforts of trying to win the match.

According to EA's EULA agreement, (you know, that thing you agreed to when you installed the game?) stat padding or otherwise finding ways to inflate your points artificially is against EA's EULA policy.

As I said before, it ruins the fun factor for everyone else in the game. People artificially inflate their stats, which negates anyone from receiving Gold/Silver/Bronze medals that they honestly worked hard for.

Personally, I have no respect for stat padders whatsoever. People that are caught stat padding on the TFH server are summarily banned and kicked permanently. My disdain for their kind of 'fun' knows no bounds.

Actually, the reason that most people have problem with stat padders is that they do it in populated servers, taking away 3 players from the game that could be helping out the team.

Smelson, its simple, stat-padding for me is not just throwing med pack, reviving ppl only, i dont care about that. If a guy is a relly good player and gets 100 points keeping his teamates alive, helping them to win the round, thats ok, u got the first place and i congratulate u for that. The problem are the guys who go apart from the others, to places in the map where no body usually goes and start stat-padding. I'll tell u a real example of that, a few weeks ago i was playing on a server and show how a certain guy was gaining points so quickly and he has not killed any1, ok, i thought, thats not possible even if he is in a blackhawk, so at last i openen up the map and saw that he was with another guy in a quiet area, i went there and u know what they were doing??? While his friend was throwing grenades, he was resupling him and this for several rounds. Man, this is a game where there is a rank, and I care a bit about my stats, i mean, i like getting better and better, improving my stats, accuracy ect. And as artnez said, its a bit like sports, our hobby and for example, if u where participating in kart races u wouldn't like a guy to run with an F1 ferrary, would u?

Which is pretty much the whole point of why stat padding does nothing to help your team win. Stat padders are people who are selfish and unwilling to play a game the way it was meant to be played. If EA intended everyone to stat pad, they would not include the warning against it in their EULA.

Some people can't earn things the hard way. Shortcuts and laziness to get what you want is what today's society is brought up on. The ironic part about all this is these stat padders gain all these points, all these ranks, but when push comes to shove and they are in a squad match or NEED to win a match, well. They are just another piece of fodder in my sights.

Point is, stat pad all you want, get all the rank/points you want. But when push comes to shove, your skills WILL NOT match neither your rank nor your ill gotten points. You quickly become pwned by someone with less rank and less points than you.

                    Simply put? Embarrassing.

nice replies....it seems as though the author wasn't sure on the true definition of stat padding.. Running around tossing out packs isn't it... Heck, we had a 2nd team helo-capping last night and the pilot had a 89 score, with 0 kills and 3 deaths...still not stat padding....

As they said, stat padding is abusing the system to increase rank / etc.... Taking 3 guys on TS/Ventrilo and abusing the system using players from other teams...its lame, and it puts them at a higher position others. There are those of us that honestly work for our points..

"Stat-Padders" are those who suck to much to fight for their rank. Enough said.

Goes to show the kind of character you have (or lack thereof). If you stat pad, don't let me catch you on our server...
