Oh.... SLI ready

I recon the only real difference between these two cards is that the 6800 256 will be able to run 2-4xAA no problems, the 6600GT struggles with AA on.

The 6800 256 has 8 pipelines, the same as the 6600GT.

I have both cards you are looking at. I know that everyone is saying "6600gt is the best bang for the buck" and "I can run everything on medium/high settings" but the framefrates kinda blow. I need at least 80+ fps when I compete in TWL, the 6800gt gives this to me without hesitation and on much higher settings. I picked up a xfx 6800gt through new egg for 350 not including a 50 buck mail in. Trust someone who has used both cards for a extended period of time and go with the 6800gt or ati equivelent.

I would say wait a little while. Hell the 7800 has gone from $599 to $479 on newegg in just a few weeks. The price of hardware is going down and going to continue. The x850xtpe will go down quit a bit as well soon as the next generation of ATI is released.
But if you have to get a card now...I would go with the x800. You can get one with 256 Mem for 160-200. I also had a 6600gt from BFG and the x800 beat it everytime in 3dmark. Too bad I dont still have my x800...I would have sold it on here! :hmm:

I have a BFG 6800GT OC and BFG's web site said it is a 16 pipe card. This is one of the differences between the 6800 and the 6800 GT or Ultra. Just be aware of that.
bfgtech.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, bfgtech.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!
"Based on the same great architecture as the BFG GeForceâ„¢ 6800 Ultra OCâ„¢, this card is overclocked out-of-the-box and features a powerful 16-pipe superscalar GPU with 256MB of GDDR3 memory for the mainstream enthusiast. "
I also believe that the X800 does not support Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 support as the NVIDA card currently does. I believe that they only support Shader Model 2.0 currently. I am not sure if BF2 uses this at the moment, but games in the future will most certainly use this new shader model.

6600gt 8 pipe ddr3 ($140-200)
6800 12 pipe ddr ($150-240 price range)
x800xl 16 pipe <-------- prety good price/performance (under $300)
i personally dont like the website i think they are a bit bias but the test are somewhat accurate

iIthink a 6600GT works fine (have one - you can see in my sig) but if you want the real quality-settings (4xAA) you should go for the 6800GT. The non-GT is not faster than the 6600GT unless you can release some of the closed down the Pipelines but it´s not sure to work with every 6800 non-GT.
Next week a friend of mine goes on Holiday and I can have his 6600GT to run two of them in SLI-Mode in my Sys! I think, this will be kinda funny!

I have the 6800 GT and had to make this decision of 6600 vs. 6800 GT back at Christmas. I'm glad I chose my GT because it can still compete with today's video cards...the 6600 is losing ground fast in my opinon. Go with the 6800 GT or wait for the 7800's to come down in price. The 7800 GTX has a default 4x AA on it, so if you like pretty, rounded visuals wait for it. But you know, if you wait for the next best thing to come out, you'll always be waiting -- especially in computer hardware. You may never get to enjoy BF2 .
The problem with these higher cards is you have to have a rig to support it. If your other pc components aren't worth a doodle then you'll have bottlenecks, and you won't get correct performance.
