This happens to me all the time. I know it happens to others as well, and I was wondering if anyone has managed to pinpoint a likely cause or if it's just entirely random.

Trying to open too close to the ground/too soon after jumping? Hammering the '9' button? Sometimes if I press it lots it doesn't work...go figure... -
U have to keep pressing the "9" key. It takes a bit, but u will hear it deploy.Comment

Happens to me also. What I do is tap (I bound my para key to "P") P-P-P-P-P--P--P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P. Then it finally open's. It get's so annoying. The short jump's off wall's and small building's. UGH! Out of helo's and plane's it's much easier.

I get this problem occasionally... know its high enough to open because my gun dissappears (and i've made the jump several hundred times) but occasionally it doesnt open and i get a suicide :-(.Comment

Well a majority of times it happens it's on non-fatal jumps (w/ full health) so at first i just thought perhaps i was pressing 9 too soon, even though i always continuously press 9. But it's happened to me before on very high jumps where i've been pressing it the entire way down.Comment

Had to eject from my plane before i got shot down as it was smoking and pratically on fire :|: . I had a mig on my tail and couldn t shake him so i climbed really high hoping to lose him with a frame rape but nope, he persisted. When the sound of the lock was made a few seconds later i knew it was time to jump. I ejected from my plane just before it was shot. On the fall down my gun disappeared and i pressed 9, a few seconds later 9 again. i started hitting it continuouly but in short spaces to make sure i didn t open and close again. I was falling for nearly 30 seconds now and my life was going down (windchill i think has been added). Eventually i fall to the ground and go splat as my squad member says to me on the VoIP," ****ing hell man you scared the **** out of me, ****ing hell, your corpse just landed on the visor of my APC". :cry:
I only have one thing to say and that is o dead god please, please EA find the problem and get it fixed. I need my chute

I had this problem too...What I did previously was hit 9 as soon as I made the jump off a wall or building. No luck. What I started to do is wait until after I'm more than 50% on the way down before impact and hit 9. Works for me 19/20 times now using this method. Btw, I only hit the 9 once. If I mash the 9 nothing happens. See if this method works for you.Comment

I think one of the buildings in mashtuur by the mosque is bugged. I can never parachute off it, never. I've never seen anyone para down it either. I often see people jumping off it and dying. It's pretty high up too, I've paraed down smaller buildings. That, and the stop sign by the mec tank spawn is explosive. Hit it and it goes boom

I've had this happen to me out of a chopper before, the chopper was gonna blow so I jumped for it, hit my P key, and noticed i was still gaining speed for the ground lol.. so I was like p p p p p p p p p p and still no open...
