So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?
Re: So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?
I hate people who auto punish, makes my skin crawl, only thing I punish for is if a teammate shoots me looking right at me, even then I forgive if they say sorry, or c4's or landmines my vehicle because they wanted it.

I generally don't punish, but I don't really agree with this sentiment.
Accidental as in it couldn't be helped, then sure, forgive, absolutely. But if the guy TK's you because he is a noob (or better, just a newbie), then a punish can be a good learning experience, and he'll be less likely to repeat the action.
For instance, most of my TK's (I mean when *I* am killed) come when I'm capping a flag and some guy runs up and shoots me, or worse, lobs a grenade at the flag. When I punish him (on most servers these days, punish is disabled anyway), but if I can punish him, then maybe next time he won't so blindly kill his teammates without looking first, eh?
Re: So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?
It is never ok to punish for an accidental tk. I am sick of being punished because someone walks into my claymore or drives over my mine or runs in front of me when I am engaging an enemy. I only punish if...the guy points his weapon at me and shoots. I mean he can see that I am on his team and he still kills me. I don't mean in the middle of a firefight either because friendlys do get hurt and killed when there is close combat going on.
I believe the friendly fire thing sucks. It should either be taken off or no punishing should be allowed.
It is a war game!!! People will get in the way and you won't always have a clear unobstructed shot.
Why not just take the friendly fire off? It would save a lot of complaining and upset people.
Bunny hopping and dolphin diving and all the other stuff do not even remotely bother me as this punishing for team killing when it is an accident.
The other thing is being kicked and banned because of accidental team killing. There are servers that I really like playing in only to be kicked or banned because of an accidental team killing. I do not go out of my way to kill a team mate. I have never killed one intentionally and I never will and I always apologize right away if I do because it was an accident.
I am just venting because I was just banned from a [101] server because I accidentally killed a team mate while I was trying to take back a flag that were infested with bad guys.
Re: So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?
Here's my story...
I was on the Filthy 13 server last night. It's a pretty decent server. I remember reading something about "mature players only" or something like that, so I thought "cool...we'll have some serious play here".
I play the Engineer. I'm fixing tanks arty and getting a lot of "Hey Thanks!" replies. The sun was shining. Life was good.
I decide to mine the entrances to some bases (but never all entrances to allow our guys to get out if they want to take a vehicle). For the first time ever (after 4 months of play), I'm killing some tanks with my mines. And those kills came at great times because we had some tanks and APCs try to roll up on us and we didn't have any ATs in the area. We had maybe two assault guys try to defend the flag and they would have been toast. I'm feeling good. This is better than sex.
But then I'm getting accidental TKs. And then more. And more. And then I'm kicked (not sure if I am banned there).
I'll still play the Engineer in the future. And I'll take the punishments if they want to dish them out. Maybe I'll be banned from a lot of servers...I don't know. Those mines are sweet. I appreciate their power now. Especially on Dalian.
Re: So when exactly is it appropriate to punish accidental TK's?
Why punish if it's an accident? It just leads to people getting annoyed and no one enjoys the game. I love being able to just get on with a game and if I kill someone by accident I apologise and expect to be forgiven, and I do the same to others if they apologise. To be quite honest, saying 'everyone does it so why shouldn't I' is just the same as carrying a gun (in real life, not BF2) because everyone else does and you need to be equal. It'd be better if no one had them, just as it would be better if NO ONE in BF2 punished for accidental TKs.
