PKM vs. MEC AK-74 LMG

BUt still, the modern AKs still have their reliability, but they are much lighter than before. Plus much more accuate than before.

Again I ask where is the modern part about a 46 year old rifle comes in? Let me explain it more completely.

An AKM is a lightened version of the AK-47, and came around in 1959.
In 1974 they took an AKM and rechambered it in a different caliber(5.45mm), this is the AK-74.
Then in the early 90's, they took an AK-74, which is still nearly identical to the 1959 AKM model...and put plastic stocks instead of wood and called it the AK-74M. Then they took this plastic stock/AK-74 muzzle device theme to all the variants which became known as the AK-100 series.
Then they began making them in NATO chambers, hence the AK-101.

How is that considered modernized? It is still a 46 year old rifle, with plastic instead of wood, and using an AK-74 muzzle break.

You are however correct in that the recent offereings from HK are in fact modern.

Perhaps the AN-94? Aha, but that isn't a Kalashnikov...but it IS modern :)

SAW: shoots the fastest, I can put more bullets into a guy in a shorter amount of time than any other LMG and the barrel heats up fairly slow

RPD: inbetween, doesn't shoot the fastest isn't the least accurate, more powerful than the SAW but not as powerful as the PKM and has a moderate heat rise

PKM: heats up really fast, very powerful, rate of fire is the slowest, half the speed of the SAW

...and who cares about the chinese LMG, chinese maps suck.

I can be just as accurate with either 3 of those weapons it just depends on the aggressiveness of the people you're playing against and such things.

I do best with the PKM whenever there's alot of lone flag rushers you can kill and have time to let your barrel cool and reload but when it's whole squads attacking I'd rather have the SAW or RPD....preferably the RPD.

Most of the time I don't use the PKM on 64 player servers...the lag is too jumpy and since I like to shoot at people from their flank trying to hit someone while they're running sideways to you with the PKMs slow rate of fire + trying to compensate for lag and trajectory....just doesn't do it for me. At least with the SAW I know I can get 3-6 hits in before a guy crosses a street to cover (mostly talking about sharqi and S@K here).

It's funny though when you got the PKM and you run into those lone wolves who like to use the hummers and vodniks to fight infantry...all ya gotta do is run away to cover and peek around till you can see either the front or rear bumper and shoot the **** out of it...he can't shoot back and it's only a few seconds before you see a grey transport vehicle up on the mini-map.

Umm some of you who say the PKM owns choppers are seriously mistaken. Yes, it damages choppers more than the default support LMGs but that's about it. You really need at least two PKM guys shooting a chopper to do enough damage for it to flee. When I see a blackhawk I instead aim for the crew in the back. Nothing like seeing the bodies fall.

I been playing Support since the demo came out. Its my most used class by far. Its funny to see some many people proclaim how great the PKM is but when you get in-game its a different story. Very few people play Support and even fewer have the PKM.

i would take a russian gun over a american gun any day most american firearms are **** now the only good ones are side arms and pre vietnam era guns such as the garand and tompson.

Wat? Are you talking about RL or in the game? In RL ak47s are complete junk, the bolt is even off center so when it shoots the barrel wobbels. GL hitting anything past 100 yards with it. Also your enemy most likely wont tell the difference between a 7.62 mm and a 5.56 mm IRL which is why we dont equip our troops with 50 cal assault rifles.

the G3 is pure crap sure it does good damage but in most sitituations your within 20-40 feet from the guy u empty out 20 rounds and miss your screwed

I have to disagree with you there. The g3 is not a spammers or supression weapon, its like a surgical instrument. when used on semi-auto it only take a few bullets to take someone down. It doesnt have the long-distance sniping ablility like the L85, but the zoom sight is pretty accurate and really good. probably 1 notch below the G36C. The 20 round mag isnt that big of a deal, if you hit what your shooting at. :)

Exactly. Even then, giving away your position will probably get yourself killed before you kill anybody.

I have picked off people in the buildings from shaqui penisula with the mec support gun and vise versua. I can only imagine what the PKM will be like.

I love defending the 1st flag as MEC on S@K, Us troopzrz pour up the stairs and I just let them have it w Teh Judge.

It takes a while to get used to and you will not own in every given situation, far from it.
Random encounters at mid distance is worst, you have to go prone and it takes a while to get the sightsorz up, if he is any good, you go down before you can get that thing cranking :|: .

Snipzorz are real fun to pluck out of towrz and buildingzorz tho, they just dont like loosing to a guy w/o sightsrz

rpk is between the saw and pkm power and ROF wise. just think of saw as extreme ROF and low dmg, and pkm extreme dmg and low ROF. rpk is a comprimise between both. use each in situations that take advantage of their different abilities. to give u an idea of what the pkm is like, its pretty much the gun that the MECS have strapped to the top of their jeeps and tanks

You could put the M16 butt stocck to your forehead, and fire it full auto and only get a minor headache, with the AK, you would die, or be permantly concussioned (i dunno the word but that means you become really stupid and stay like that,)
