I think Dice is likely dissapointed regarding BF2 on some levels.

thats always the problem if you are having high expectations not counting the reality into it....

    the reality is

not everybody got 8 hours time to play...some want have simply 1-2 hours fun...and surely do not want obey to a 12 years old sending you here and there...then mutining and whatelse having 1 hour wasted for issues that are rather boring .... you see?

The game should have had more gametypes giving people a chance to find their passion...then automatically they would join squads after a while....if you like TeamDeathMatch for example you will figure out very soon that spawning with a commander is a good feature....in generally it is on every gametype.....but the limitation on only one is making people to break out of the limitation by not playing like you expect...thats psychology

I do not use the VOIP for two main reasons: First is because I am in TS with 3 great squad members who communicate excessively and I dont use push to talk so every one on comms heres what I say twice which is no biggy but still... and the second reason I dont is because Im 15 years old and from what I hear noone wants a 15 year old telling them what to do and giving them squad orders. I will however use VOIP when I see a squad member at risk

I have run an effective squad many times without using mics at all.

All that matters is using the squad map to verify commander requests, or to rally at a point, to attack, to defend, to destroy, etc.

If squad members simply meet/rally/accomplish the set objective on the map, that is all you need to be successful.

Mics mean nothing. It would change nothing. If members aren't following your orders, all a mic is going to do is cause me to scream at them online.

You don't want me on a mic when I'm pissed... I'm bad enough typing how I feel already, I don't need to add voice to the mix.

Mics used properly make a hell of a difference. Yes, you do not need them for the basics, but it's far easier to call out threatening troop concentrations, or enemy vehicles with voice rather than typing it out. If you do something silly like drop a grenade, or someone stands next to some C4 you've dropped, it's easy and quick to tell them to move. When on maps like Karkand, if you wish to set up an ambush, or are USMC and have a tactic you wish to employ, it takes a few words on voice to explain what you're doing, and people follow.
Mics help keep your squad alive for longer, which makes them a more effective fighting unit, more likely to accomplish an objective and of course rack up some nice scores. :)
A pilot and gunner on voice will own. Also if squad is doing well, banter and a temporary camraderie develops, adding to the fun.

Regarding your screaming and temper, maybe you need to learn to control them? It's only a game. If you're *that* good, then squad members will do whatever you ask without you needing to resort to amateur dramatics. Having a mic fosters a temporary familiarity with your squad, and they're more likely to do as you ask than if your not talking to them.
I had great fun as a squad member and squad leader last night and we kicked arse for hours. Nine times out of ten the squad I was in was the top squad at the end of a round. All because we communicated effectively.

Maybe you should start to kick people who don't use VOIP in ranked servers. Thats what they do in Socom alot of the time they will just kick anyone w/o a mic.

I understand what you are saying, but does that style of play preclude lonewolves from floating amongst the various squads? I think lonewolves can benefit from being squadmembers without being encumbered by the negatives.

When I die as a lone wolf I look at the spawn map and see if there is a squad leader in an area of the map I want to go to. If there is, I join his squad and spawn in that area. If he is going the way I wanted to go I move out with him, if not I help out for a few seconds (or not) and move out to my objective. If more lonewolves did that, it would be easier to put out the hot spots on the map.

Sometimes you find you've joined an excellent squad and youre having a blast. Squad's score higher points than lonewolves, and they benefit from having the various support roles. Being in a squad gives you more options, not less.

I do agree the game should have had many more game types. Supply line (aas) would promote some awesome clashes. The current "conquest' game mode promotes "whack -0- mole" spasmodic gameplay, while supply line would more or less force the majority to focus on one point of attack.

Not at all surprised in the way things are going, BF2 is a game. The majority of people play games for fun, not to recieve orders or be forced into only one specific type of gameplay. Trying to force playing habits to change to fit what the game designers envision will never work, the game has to fit what the public wants. If Dice forgets this, the BF series will die...

Ultimately BF2, like it's predecessors, is a team game. The squad system and VOIP were implemented to enhance team play without the need for people to submit themselves to the rules, regulations and requirements of a clan. Perfect for the casual gamer who hasn't the time or the inclination to join a clan.
If you don't want to play on a team, then you need to go play some Quake DM. If a squad leader sucks, or if you join a squad and they are not doing something you like, you leave and move to the next, or start you're own. There's plenty of choice and nobody is forced to do anything. Right now I think the squad system works well, and I see plenty of people playing in squads. Lone wolves are usually in the minority. Sticking with a small group of other people enhances the game experience, you have buds to keep you alive and to share your successes or failures.

Yep. I play games for my own fun and am not going to let anyone tell me how I "should" play. I bought the game and will play it however I want to.

I wasnt really trying to do that here.

But it's hard to ignore the fact that joining a squad will benefit a lonewolf more than it hurts him. In fact you dont have to notice any negative aspect, you can still "do your own thing". But you just have a new spawn point, and someone watching your back now and then.

Benefit me in what? Having a good score? I said I play for my own fun, not for stats that don't ever mean anything.

It really should be a automatic server process to put people into squads. Now I realize the problems that could some from this but, hey, I get more SL points.

Lith1um Took you long enough to realise. :)

Being a lonewolf is an option. Doing Spec Ops missions and blowing stuff up is often safer a alone, snipers can sneak into position alone. Pilots don't have to be on VOIP or in a squad, but it does help... However what the squad and VOIP system does is give the majority the option to play together and communicate so the team can win, players can rack up kills and points. If the other team has more or better squads than your side, you're a lone wolf and a squad comes around a corner, you're screwed. You may take out one or two, but they respawn on their squad leader. You have no chance of success.

Being in a squad gives you another spawn point near the hotspots, you can spawn on your squad leader.

Most squads have a medic. It is nice being revived instead of having to respawn (bleeding tickets), then walking/transporting back into action.

Most squads have demo or anti-tank, which is nice when armor shows up.

Its sure nice to get ammo from a gunner when you need it.

You can still do you're own thing. You dont have to take orders. You just gain a few nice benefits and options. You can move from squad to squad, spawning at beneficial places on the map.

Its really a win/win situation and it has no negative.
