I'm actually using Teamspeak more frequently when other clan members are on. I do prefer to have a squad who's using VOIP, but it's rare to come by outside of the clan environment.
I think Dice is likely dissapointed regarding BF2 on some levels.

i must say the best experiance ive had was a 6 man sniper team, split into 3, 2 mans teams covering bases in gulf of Oman, man, m95, both hit the same target, noone stands a chance, and alot of base defends as well
whew, although its not as neat as BF2 voip, i love STEAM voip, so easy, and you can mute ppl, and you can CHANGE YOUR NAME lolComment

I think it is more like: People who really want team work join a squad with friends and use Ventrillo or other voice over... And the reason why the general public refrains from joining the in game VOIP is due to the fact that looking at obnoxious text in game sux as it is; last thing anyone else wants is to listen to some whiney ass punks ramble on over VOIP. Spouting off lord knows what.. Alot of the time just talking to hear themselves talk..Originally posted by RedHeadedFreakI coulda told you this before the game was released.
All the features seem like they would be really great, and they are if you are lucky enough to find a great squad.
BUT, the majority of people that play online games either:
1. Play for their own personal gratification...be damned with anyone elses game experience.
2. Dont really care if they win or lose.
3. Are too preoccupied with their own stats to play as a team.
4. Too cheap to buy a mic. The same people that havent gotten a damned DVD player for their PC are probably these same folks.
I'd say roughly half...probably more fall into the above categories.
Dice could have remedied this with clan support, but they dont even let you change your damn name, and with the stat situation and unlocks in its current form, most people dont wanna give up their stats and start over with a clan name.
But i will say this- The HUD communication system rocks.. Very nice system which i hope Dice expands on in the future..Comment

I play with most of the same friends everyday, so we usually don't use ingame Voip. I'm usually SL so I'll use it to talk to Commander, or if we have some people not on vent or TS i'll talk to them and tell them whats up. Earlier today I was playing with a few friends and we had a full squad, not all my friends. It worked out pretty well on Sharqi, they would all spawn on me and we'd stick together capping flags. We were pretty unstoppable. We had 2 medics, so when ever someone died they would always get revived. But teamwork isn't always present, there is still lots of people that Lone Wolf. I personally never Lone Wolf, I'll join a random squad and help them out. Usually most Squad Leaders don't talk to their team, but I always do. One bad thing is, I'm very picky with my Squad, if a random kid joins and is playing stupid or being retarded, I'll quickly remove him.Comment

What poeple havent realized yet is that if you are in a squad working together your score will be much better than if you are a loner. I was just playing on shogua stalmate in a 5 man squad. We all got in the blackhawn and at the end of the round everyone in our squad had 80+ points. And even if you dont listen to your squad just join one for the sake of having a mobile spawn point!Comment

I wasnt to keen on the VOIP to begin with in the game, but the last two weeks ive noticed more people use it in the squads ive been in. My gf, me, my bro and his gf all play as a squad and use the voip and it rox, makes life so much easier when tryin to relay tactics, most squads i join also seem to use it. So yeh no complaints here. Altho i do agree about hearing pipsqueak voices giving commands and dribbling but hey it can be amuzing.Comment

I have to disagree. There's more teamwork in this game than I ever saw in JO... Maybe it depends what servers you play on, I don't know. At times teaming and squads can be a little hit and miss, but overall, there's a great deal of teamwork on the public servers. Tonight for me things started a little slow, I hopped around squads, moved servers a couple of times, then bingo, I had maybe three hours of pure teamwork as a squad leader, with each of my teammates using VOIP. For most of the rounds, my squad was only 4 people including me, but we kicked ass, scoring more points than all the other squads.
There were other squads on the team, they just didn't seem so organised, and even though those guys were relatively new, because they listened and communicated, we got stuff done and they seemed to be having fun judging by the banter on VOIP.
They even had the patience to wait a couple of mins near the rearward west edge of Strike at Karkland, rather than rushing headlong into a fight. I told them there would be a squad coming through to try and take the NW flag. They trusted me, we set up an ambush with C4 down an alley maybe 30 metres in front. They even hid behind the wall and waited until I blew the C4 before popping up and letting rip with their small arms, just as I'd asked. An LAV came around the corner partly damaged due to the C4, and we owned that because the squad working with it on foot got the crap kicked out of them. The driver abandoned it and died, we comandeered the vehicle, asked for a supply drop, fixed it and used it ourselves... :)
Very intense, just what I bought this game for. Probably as realistic a simulation this game will get and the most teamwork you'd likely see on a public server. That particular tactic prevented the USMC getting a foothold at the back and undoubtedly helped us win that very tough round. Just one example over several hours of good game play. Those guys where great, all Yanks bless 'em....
There's team work, you just need to go looking for it, often guys will come out of nowhere like the team tonight, and make the night's gaming worthwhile. They were picking up badges & ribbons left and right, so they were buzzing to. Fantastic fun, and worth every penny of the £27.99.Comment

Voip is just the icing on the cake imo. I want everyone to use it, but it's no big deal if they dont. The voice changer sounds like a brilliant idea.
Squad's on the other hand, I consider to be a vital part of the game. A lone wolf can join a squad and gain an extra spawnpoint. He should spawn on his squad leader, but at least he has an extra option. This feature is critical at times during the round. A strategicaly placed squad leader or commander acting as a spawn point can litteraly give the enemy fits. If all of the squads are filled and the squad leaders stay safe, you literaly have a near invinceable team that can spawn anywhere on the map. If your opponent doesnt have his scat together he doesnt stand a chance.
As far as gameplay goes, squad play can be much more intense in many aspects. I really think lonewolves miss out on alot and dont always help their team in the best manner possible. Of course there are times when you are playing on a smacktard team and you HAVE to go lonewolf and cap some flags because no one else is.
Spawning on a squad leader, covering/repairing/medding/supplying a small group of individuals you come to recognize, and reaping the benefits on the battlefield and scoreboard can be a blast. You can score higher, play more effectively, and have more fun than 100 lone wolves ever could.Comment

1. VOIP servers cost more than non-VOIP servers
2. Me and my clan use teamspeak instead of the VoIP option, since we find it lags the hell out of us.
3. When me and my clan play in squad, we rarely die. So Squad+Teamspeak works wonders.
I think the main problem, if you ever go price BF2 servers, from what I have found, havning VOIP enabled raises the cost per slot.Comment

I have a headset which is usually on Teamspeak for my clanmates on both sides. We then use VOIP for our squad chat. When I'm on public servers I seldom encounter VOIP though I am always either in a squad or am the commander. I've gotten so I don't even wear my headset unless someone comes on VOIP first.
The lack of teamwork on public servers is very apparent. Get one decent squad on one side or the other and it turns the tide of battle. Folks should get a clue but don't unless they join a clan which teaches to work with your teammates.Comment

Ditto that. I was playing with in a tourny yesterday (21cw) it was a lot of fun. We had a great leader who stayed alive, and generally kicked ass. Then some guy new to the tourny came on, he sounded like he was 10 or something. Well everyone had to explain something to him. My ears were bleeding when he talked. It was just damn annoying. Then someone told him that we were not allowed to use the attack choppers, since that was for the airforce and we were in the infantry company, and he just said something like "omg, I won't be on the ground and use the noob rifles, I want a pwnage machine" and he just hopped in the chopper and flew off. Couple minutes later, "omg, get a flag with a helipad soon, I'm damaged (apparently he was dumb enough not to notice that he could repair at the carrier
)". Couple more minutes later, "omg, how could he kill me? aaaaargh, wtf? He hacks". :thatsbad: Then I just muted him
