      Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

The only solution is to check the running processes and if BF2.exe is running but you closed the game, then it's not closed for real.

      So kill the process.

        Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

        Ok, I've tried everything.

        Normal mode - fails.
        Safe mode - fails.
        Straight from CD - fails
Straight from USB drive - fails.
Manaul extract through CMD prompt - fails
Manaul extract through CMD prompt in safe mode - fails.

It always fails on the objectclient.zip, which is about 8% in.

Yet the exact same file works on my other machine, as I sent it over the network to test it.

        Does anyone have any ideas?

If I extract the file to a temp folder, and go through the CMD prompt.

        If I type

C:\patch\setup.exe - the patch starts, runs, and fails.

        If I type

C:\patch\setup.exe "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" - I cant even get it to start. It tells me its looking for the Data2.cab. So I point it to the directory on my computer where it is, and it errors. I point it too a direct ISO of the DVD, it errors.

I'm using an Image as my dvd got cracked.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this too patch? I've tried everything I can think of, and it's just not working at all.

        Thanks,

        Brad

          Same method with slight alterations....

          _____________________________________________

          1. Double click the BF2_Patch_1.4.exe you downloaded. Do not select a language, leave it on this screen.

          2. Browse to your temp directory e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp and arrange icons by modified (note: you will need hidden folders to be visible - tools > folder options > view)

          3. Open the folder with a name similar to byeF7.tmp (4 letters and a number in this format.. There are 2 of them that appear when you start an installation, only one holds the bf2 data) open sub-folder disk1 and copy all the files to C:\Patch (create this folder).

          4. Close your current installation of BF2

          5. Click Start, Run, type CMD and press enter. At the command line type cd c:\patch and press enter. Then type setup.exe "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2" - or where ever you installed it.

Setup will then start again. Go through setup normally as if you were installing any other working game that isnt crap like bf2.

          Hope it helps
What the **** do you mean by "Close your current installation of BF2" is that the patch or do i un-install the entire game or what?

          Please help!

Do you have 512MB of RAM or an old-ish hard disk?

              Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

I have a new computer with 270gbs of hard drive space remaining. I have 1gb of RAM and an AMD dual core processor. My graphics card is a Radeon X1300, and whenever i try to install patch version 1.41 I get the error that same god damn error "Patching Failed" I have tried downloading it from 3 different sources (including transferring the version my brother used across onto the P.C. via our Network) I am using the new BF2 Deluxe edition to install the games. I can run single player fine, i can patch and run all my other games fine. So i don't know what the deal is with it. Can someone please write me a step by step guide to using the CMD fix, but with the files for patch version 1.41?Most of the fixes on here are for earlier patches, could i use them for this one?

P.S. if it makes any difference mine also always fails on objectclient.zip which is at about 8%

                Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

Yeah actually my 1.41 patching fails too at 8% on the objectsclient.zip. I once tried making another Windows account which worked, but that gave me a "Your CD-Key is not valid" error when I tried to join a server, and the error can only be fixed if you patched on the same account, not a different one . So I uninstalled and installed and for the hell of it tried to patch on another account again, which now doesn't work anymore. I've got 2GB of RAM and 8GB free left in my HDD.

                  Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

I am having the same problem with 1.41 as you guys and a guy in the EA forums may have found the cause,
I have been experiencing the "patching failed" error ever since 1.2 came out and I have searched everywhere and I mean everywhere, and have tried that many different ways to fix it that it's not funny. It was really starting to get on my nerves when I payed for a game I can't play, that is untill now...

A few months ago I stumbled across a forum that explained that it could be my ram playing up, so I only briefly tried taking one of my 3 x 512 sticks out and nothing changed. So only an hour ago I tried it again but this time I downloaded a dos based memory checker and to my surprise when I ran it I Found one of my ram sticks had only a few faulty sectors on it, but it was enough to completely fail the patch install (1.3 - 1.4).

I was totally un-aware that my system had faulty ram and it has been running perfectly with the tatal amount counted for(1.5gig) which leads me to believe that there are many others out there that are unaware of this problem and turn to blame EA.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING A MEMORY CHECKER TO FIND OUT IF YOUR RAM IS FAULTY AND DON'T JUST TAKE YOUR RAM OUT AND PUT IT BACK IN. With the size of modern patches being in there 300megs+ then that one tiny ram fault will corrupt the entire patching process where cache is very important and large amounts are needed.

I never had a problem with 1.1 because I'm guessing it's size and other things where medicore compaired to 1.2 and up.

So give it a try. I was stoked considering I tried everything on this forum + many others.

I ve run a memory tester and found there to be errors in my memory, still trying to identify which module tho.
hope this helps you guys out.

                    Re: Solution to "Patching Failed"

I have a new computer and highly doubt there is any problems with the ram. I have a single stick of RAM and don't believe it to be the issue. The whole process of checking for faulty RAM is too arduous for me to bother with. Having too download like 4 programs just to try one memory test. But post back if it works.

the microsoft test is easy to do, all you need is a floppy or cd and it makes the disk for you. takes like 10 mins from dl to test.

Did the whole RAM issue faults solve anything anyway?
The website says you need to dl a program that allows to create the correct cd and ****e. Basically i've given up and don't know what to do, my friends is currently trying to copy me his game files of the objects_client.zip folder. I will post back if it works (probably if it doesn't as well :P)

I dont know if it was the ram or not but the patch is now installed after many tries, i was using outpost firewall 4 and i had disabled it for a few hours when the patch installed. also the ram had been swopped channels, also i had been tweaking alot of windows settings that day aswell so could have been anything. But one of the sticks is faulty and they are going back to the manufacturer.

Do you remember the exact windows settings you were tweaking and does changing the RAM channels just mean changing one stick for the other?

Okay i finally just got it too patch
I had to disable my AVG virus protection and then after three times it worked YAY!!!!!
