All of the above settings can be adjusted from within the in-game Video settings. However the highest they can be set to is High from within the game (a value of 3). By setting them each to 4 in Video.con (as shown above), you will have them displayed as 'Videosettings_Ultrahigh' in the in-game Video settings screen, and some people believe this increases the graphics quality to Ultrahigh levels. I didn't see any impact from this change, but if you want the absolute best quality in BF2 give it a try.

So you have this kick-ass rig and your game video looks like this? That pic shows the game is not doing any AA. See the stair-stepping along the rotor blades etc? AA would smooth those out. So you have some tweaking to do!

Well see the problem is that this screenshot was only a 200kb jpeg. If you see the full 1 meg screen print I did on the msn link under documents its a whole different story.

That link takes me to the MSN homepage, so i can't see any other screenshot unfortunately. The screenshot you posted here (and that i replied to) does not suggest to me that it's the scaling down of the image that's showing that stair-stepping pattern. But it could be i suppose. Yet i suspect it's more likely that you don't notice the stair=stepping as much in the higher resolution, simply because the pixels are smaller...?

also i'd like to point out that the guy who is saying "the shaders aren't being optimized, and i'm a little pansy" is only half wrong. the shaders don't get optimized because you make the changes before you boot up bf2. when you change settings IN GAME you have to get optimized before the match. but in this case, the changes were recognized at startup, but like i said, you had your statement halfway correct, pansy.

You loose image quality if you save your image as JPEG.

edit the file named video.con with notepad, change the settings to:

FYI the 001 or 002 file is your player profile information saved, your in game settings from key bindings, sound settings, vid sets, all options etc, 001 is one player tag say "BILLYBOB" and 002 is player tag "BOTBUT" in your account.
You can excess these 001 files, by choosing a program to open them chose "notepad" and cut and paste , but save the original content and revert back when problems.

Yes, but that looks different, and is not what you see here. Apparently you know that JPEG compression is not lossless, but you're clueless as to what exactly it does.

JPEG compression makes pictures look "blotchy", with color smearing and less-clear boundaries between colors. Stairstepping and jaggies are actually very clear boundaries between colors. And they are not usually a result of JPEG compression.

Now, it could be that the artifacts in his picture are a result of scaling, and him not knowing how to properly scale an image.

If that's the case though, the picture is no longer an accurate representation of what the video quality looks like on his system.
