Re: Turn your graphic options to ULTRA-high (vs high from menu)

Ultra High quality mode is no different than the High quality mode.

That may be true, however if those that believe they are getting image enhancements want to do these tweaks then people like $GMONEY$ should let them without all the flames.

You noobs are fooling yourselves. My pictures are just the same with a 6800 ULTRA on 1600x1200 and AA, AF on application controlled, settings on high, VC on High quality. There is NO DOCUMENTED PROOF changing to this ultra high setting will make any difference. ASK EA they il tell you that. ALSO going to a higher SETTING will NEVER RAISE your FPS.

If anyone wants a challenge run both the 128 bot mod and run it in Ultra high aswell.

I'd say the easiest way to get ultra high graphics settings is 2 sli 7800 GXT's, 4 gigs of corsair and a nice FX-57 cpu. =p

                            Re: Ultra high graphic settings

so, now some screens from me:

                            my sys:
                            dfi lanparty ut nf4 ultra-d
                            amd athlon 64 x2 3800+
2x512 mb ddr333 ram (dual channel mode)
                            nvidia geforce 7800 gt
                            windows xp pro
                            creative x-fi platinum
                            logitech z-680

                            my video.con:
                            VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 4
                            VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@75Hz
                            VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 4Samples
                            VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
                            VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

i've set the antialiasing via nvidia settings to 8xS, the anisotropic filtering to 16x and set transparency antialiasing to supersampling. the game runs with about 50fps at 1280x1024. i only experience some crazy lags for the first minute, then the game runs smoothly =)

do you know how you can improve the shadow quality? i once had changed a thing in my display config and the shadows were bada$$, but i can't seem to find the setting anymore... for the screenshots i deactivated the hud.

I have a very similar setup to you nocatix.

                              DFI UT Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D
                              Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1MB L2 Cache
                              XFX 7800GT OC
                              2GB (1GBx2) OCZ Platinum DDR400 2-3-2-5
                              Creative X-Fi

Now, I've been running these supposed "Ultra-High" settings too that I set in my con file, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference because I went from a rig that would only do medium at reasonable settings, to this new rig that I've been playing ultra-high on for a few days now. Since I can play it at ultra-high with no performance issues, I haven't bothered with High. I'm doing about 60-100 FPS depending on the situation, using 1280x1024, Ultra-High, 4x AA, textures in nvidia preferences set to highest quality, AA/AF set to application preference, Ultra-High audio (x-fi) which I don't think causes a performance hit. I was considering setting 16x AF and 8x5 AA in the nVidia settings, but it's been recommended to leave those at application preference unless you are playing older games that don't have in-game settings for those features. So, I'm going to stick with BF2's settings for those.

But, I really can't imagine the picture quality getting much better. Everything looks very crisp. The only thing is that sometimes I think at farther distances it gets blurrier, but that's to be expected, though it seems like moreso in BF2 it gets blurrier sooner at distances than it does in other games. Usually that's related to Anisotropic Filtering (to my knowledge), and from what I've heard the BF2 in-game settings will only give you 4x AF on the highest setting. Other than that, I thought it was kinda lame that things like tree branches and that look like flat pictures instead of 3-D looking when you are directly under them, but that's just the game, but detail wise they look fine
