What is the dumbest rule you seen on a server?

Now that's some straight up BS. What clan did this to you? or server?Originally posted by Ghost 1800oh, you mean the whole "I wasn't there personally but I trust his position over the 600 guys saying the exact same thing enough to not even investigate?"
even better is when they forge an IM conversation with you on an IM you've never used before using your in game name as your screen name.Comment

I know a server that explicitely states "Spawnkilling is allowed on this server. Go spawn somewhere else." I love it. Seriously. Not because I'm a spawnkiller but because I'm sick and tired of having to read through foot-long lists of unofficial made-up rules about what I'm not allowed to do.Comment

Absolutely. I agree. Personally i don't think its fun. its why a lot of people bail servers and don't return. As an admin I feel its my responsibility to the server owner, who funds it alone, that I enforce his rules.
One reason perhaps why Timeless have some of the top servers in the world?Comment

One team we played in competition, had a server rule that if you had a match upcomming with them, you were not allowed to play on their public server. They considered it to be "conducing reconnaissance" against their team. I was never banned for this, but I know a few guys from another team who were. Wouldn't it have just been easier to lock your server and practice?Comment

I think generally there shouldn't be any "unofficial" rules, unless absolutely necessary. If a certain way of playing the game is considered "spoiling", "cheating" or "griefing" by the majority of players, it should be Dice's obligation to take countermeasures.
I'd love it if Dice had put a spawn protection option into the game. It's easy. Give people 5 seconds of invulnerability after spawning, at least in a non-capturable base. But Dice decided not to do so. Therefore, I think spawn killing should be allowed.
I'd also love it if Dice had denied the commander to use weapons or vehicles. Instead, give him a stationary command tower, which he cannot leave, and a few more strategic tools and weapons to use. But Dice decided not to do so. Therefore I think that fighting commanders should be allowed. If you don't like a fighting commander, start a vote for mutiny.
I'd also love it if Dice had put a permanent sensor system and very powerful, indestructable stationary gun turrets into non-capturable bases to prevent "base raping". But Dice decided not to do so. Therefore, I think "base raping" should be allowed.
I could go on and on and on ...Comment

That would be the ex-modders now Moongaming 64 Port Bavaria. Damn good fun that server and the basera*e rule works. Otherwise half the PAC team spawns sniper and hangs around the uncap.Originally posted by Tetris LI know a server that explicitely states "Spawnkilling is allowed on this server. :) I also believe one of the server rules is "Save all your whineing for mum" :)Comment

Sigh.
Servers have their own rules mostly allowed by EA to encourage gameplay, enhance enjoyment and to encourage teamwork.
This thread was about dumbest rules often NOT endorsed by EA. Not the general ones you disagree with. I very much doubt if DICE wanted to add loads of extra things considering the glitchers they cannot stop, the hacks they cannot stop, the stat padding they cannot stop, the crashes they cannot stop. (I could go on and on and on)
If your one of those that don't obey individual server rules then fair play. Serves you damned right if you get banned. If its server No 976 in the server listings your hardly going to miss playing there.
Server owners have their own rules that they feel will be appreciated by the most players they can attract. Look at the server league chart.
Timeless have no commander combat rule
no spawn or baserape rule
FF off
moving titans
No pod surfing
and see how popular they are!
Currently No 2 in the world for a Conquest server and have the highest ranked 48 player titan servers in the world.
Complain about no spawn/base rape, no combat commander etc but it puts bums on seats and makes these servers the best atmosphere and fun to play on. Don't just believe what I am saying. Check the servers and check the league listings.
Maybe you like being a combat commander... or a base raper like the Tetris but your side won't and neither will the other side.
Win friends and influence people.. NOT.Comment
