Battlefield 6 - What do YOU think?

The world has changed a lot.
Good old days in cozy pajamas, warm chocolate, playing Battlefield 2, 2142, Bad company 2, BF3... checking TotalBF for news and for pictures of the day :)

I hope you all are doing well, healthy and so are those important to you.

In a way to keep a tradition going, since we last did what were the communities thoughts on BF1 and then BF2142.

Everyone and their cousins on the internet nowadays say they are a BF veteran, but here, on Total Gaming Network, we know who the actual true battlefield veterans are :)
So, now the time has come, I want to consult what YOUR thoughts and feelings for the most recent, Battlefield 6?

Here are my quick feelings about Battlefield 6. (apologies for the double post, I just wanted to keep the initial post nice and to the point)

I played the beta quite a bit,o felt the maps were too small (very COD-like) and then purchased the game to check the other maps with hopes they were bigger and play a bit with a friend who is also a BF vet (he introduced me to BF2 and used to be around in these forums as well) but I have refunded it because my hopes were disapointed and I just didnt find the game fun.

As a game, the core, it is good/fine, it has good gunplay, but the pace is simply too fast especially for a Battlefield game. Small maps, flags are very close to each other, tight spaces, the players are too close to each other. You can even see it/feel it by the initial trailers, you can always count large amounts of players at every scene doing a dozen different things. (especially when compared to trailers of older BFs' like BF3 or BF4)
When playing, there is not a single spot where you can sit and chill for a second. In BF4 even on the small maps I could survive for 3-4 minutes. Here you can't more than a minute.

The maps are considerably smaller than previous BF's (Especially obvious to see this effort to make BF faster/smaller in the maps they brought back from previous BFs)
It is difficult to read things because they are happening so fast on screen and that is why there are more and brighter and uglier HUD elements.

In older battlefields, the battlefrond used to move across the map naturally and gradually and there was room for you and your squad to have your own little objectives that all compounded to a bigger effort across the whole map. Now its all one big mush of call of duty kill and get killed.
Older BF entries where a slower more sandbox experience where you could choose your engagement, now it chooses you.

Now, most of the game is pure chaos. The gameplay forces you to look 360º around you because enemies pop around anywhere. While you play, you need to be on meth and caffeine. Teamwork is very weak or non existant, everyone just wants to respawn and shoot shoot kill kill. This speed of gameplay plus lack of teamwork and higher individualism makes it feel like you are "alone" on the battlefield even though you are surrounded by people.

I understand they want to appeal to a more modern audience with higher, tiktok fried dopamine requirements where everything is faster, such is life. In older battlefield (BF3, BF4) I already used to prefer to play 64 player maps in servers limited to 48 slots (that was the best experience for me), so now, being forced to play in 64 players that get filled with bots is just plain unpleasant.

We know that metro 24/7 servers used to have some popularity. I never really enjoyed them but sometimes used them to level up certain weapons. They could be fun because the intensity was a good mixture to throw around sometimes. The problem is that now, in Battlefield 6, its like ALL maps are metro 24/7 servers now.

It also feels like the whole thing with Battlefield 6 and comunity is a boiling frog theory, where EA gets people slowly and slowly convinced that "We are back", then no server browser, people more acustomed to smaller maps, faster pace of gameplay, release of crazier and crazier microtransaction skins for the game (until eventually we have bacon cammo pink nicki minaj skins, because those are the ones that generate most money).

I am convinced that, since the first announcement, the online communities on reddit are full of EA astroturfing bots slowly brainwashing the comunity that somehow "we are back" the call of duty pace is OK (hell if you look at recent COD gameplay videos even COD is slower than BF6) ... as well as the bacon nicki minaj skins that are about to unfold in the future are OK.
Such is life, I've accepted it, there is not much to do, some other game will eventually take the place that battlefield has left up open.
I admit, I am also getting old and likely

It feels like EA has been fighting all these years against COD, trying to win/replace them as THE shooter. And they finally made it (or are very close to it).
I mean, after what happened with the release of BF2042, it was a veryr clear statement of the direction that EA was taking the Battlefield series into, now Battlefield 6 just feels like it is the perfect step back of giving the players just barely enough of what they want to keep them happy enough to shut up/keep the general opinion positive, while inserting as much of what EA wants as they can so they can use it a stepping stone to progressively "modernize" the game with less thinking involved, less player choice/flexibility (smaller maps less sandbox experience), less teamwork and more individualism, entries that expire faster (no server browser) so that they can sell the next game in the series sooner, so that they can sell more flashy skins through microtransactions and "season passes" etc.

Apologies if my thoughts didnt' flow out too well. They were exactly that, mostly thoughts and I also didnt' process this through any AI, just good ol spilling my brain into the keyboard :P

    _______

On another note (on what I Have been playing lately)
I was really surprised by Arc Raiders playtest, I genuninely had more fun than playing Battlefield 6. I understand the genres are completely different but I was happy to play something new build by Embark Studios (the old battlefield developers)
I really liked The Finals during the initial times and teamwork it required, the destruction, but as it evolved it became too much of a MLG sweatfest for me. (Nowadays, even though I definitely dont get to game as much as I did back then, the game I play the most is probably Hunt Showdown. I enjoy the paced tactical slowness and teamwork it requires (and also have a couple of friends to play it with).

Just a short one for now:

The campaign sucked. If there weren't some MP cosmetics tied to its completion, I would have dropped it after just a few missions.

Multiplayer is a real mixed bag for me. I still feel like the TTK is too high but I don't know. People say it's real close to BF3/BF4, so maybe it's just me. Many of the maps are too small and the bigger ones have a "lack of cover" problem. I also dislike how it feels like most maps on the medium to large scale are very linear.

Look at this. Look at the BF6 maps. Almost all are straight line, straight line, straight line, diagonal but still straight line. Also, compare the BF6 maps to the other maps from older games, which are more blob-like in nature.

And still somehow I feel like I'm constantly being flanked from in front, the sides, above, below, behind, just nonstop. Friends have said this same thing quite a few times as well. There's no time, no room to breathe. There's more play area around the main battle areas near capture points in older maps. So sure, you could still be flanked but you at least had some time to breathe and react due to the larger surrounding areas.

I don't think BF6 is terrible. I wasn't at all sold on it in the first day or two of release but I have warmed up quite a bit to it. My friends and I are having fun but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Has this game launched in a far better state than the last several Battlefield games? Absolutely. But again, still a lot of room for improvement.

Totally agree with Shawn on the map's lack of scale - it stuck out like a sore thumb to me how small the maps are. In the same way that 2042's maps at launch were so vastly empty, BF6's feel tight and cluttered.

I enjoy the general gunplay but do feel that the vast majority of the experience feels closer to a good Call of Duty game rather than good Battlefield game. Still I've clocked decent hours on BF6 and on the whole have enjoyed it when playing with squads of friends. I'm hoping that in 2026 we see a roadmap to introduce more large maps to broaden the map variety, currently after a few rounds of city-based maps I'm ready to start thinking of playing something else.

Only played the free week from a couple months ago but while it felt solid I do wonder how much of it was the dopamine from the ultra high unlock boosts.

I still intend to get it eventually, just other things have taken priority lately. I do appreciate it at least runs decently in a time of increasing hardware prices.
