Yes, I had played it a few months ago before I reformatted and I did get that old feeling. You get used to it quickly and I was back into it in no time.

I really enjoy the ranking, award, and unlock system in that game.

In my opinion the helicopter should have different dieing situations acording to the ammount of damage passing the 100% limit he would take : A lot of damage : instant blow up
very high damage, would twirl and blow up after (similar to BFBC2)
high damage: Would twirl till it touches the ground and blow up
high damge 2: Would twirl till it touches the ground and would not blow up, giving a chance for the passengers/pilot to survive

Amongst the damage levels and situations, there should be a probability of the eject working or not, for example sometimes you would be able to bail out and others you wouldnt, forcing you to come down with the heli surviving or not. They could even add an animation were you would see your character trying to break the glass or open it with his hands because the eject was not working

          I second this.

Yep, nothing more badass than ejecting through rotating blades that will chop you into pieces for the recovery team to pick you up with a spoon.

Look, can't we just get rid of bailing out of helicopters? If you don't allow players to use parachutes after bailing from a helicopter, they would be much more careful with important team assets. Give the helicopter fast-ropes.

As for land vehicles, we should have proper mounting and dismounting animations. This would solve the helicopter problem for ground vehicles. Even if the tank has a few seconds to explode, the player may or may not make it out in time. It would add a really neat element to the gameplay.

Yeah, and then we have the darts, which make the helicopters easy +12 targets. Realism junkies have no idea how to make a fun, balanced and working game. Black Hawk Down image only works in good videos. You don't balance gameplay based on "cool images".

                Re: 4 man squads confirmed

We probably all remembered the trailer to BF2 where the RPG went through the open door of the Black Hawk. Not that it ever happened ingame. It would really stress the hitbox system if it had to calculate point of impact in connection to the people adjacent to what ever is hit and the consequenses of the hit i.e taking out the tracks of the tank or disabling the rudder on the chopper.

I do like the part of any given percentage of life would disable a vehicle. That would not render it useless to empty a clip or two into the chopper. Maybe below 50% health would destroy the tracks and the same for the chopper where it might be the rudder. Obviously there should also be a difference whether you were in a tank or in a chopper. The tank is impervious to small arms but the chopper will take more damage. How about cracks in the window making it harder for the pilot to see?
There is still a system in a helicopter called autorotation that will allow it to land somewhat safe if it is not blown up. I could see that implemented in the game where 10% health would send the chopper towards the ground but allow the occupants to get out alive. A 0% health should still kill everybody inside and only the pilot should be warned about incoming missiles.

This is a game from 2002 and you could already take down choppers by shooting it's rotor with bullets

Yeah I don't know why people are complaining about not being able to do this and that.

In 2004 Novalogic released Joint Operations Typhoon Rising. You could have 150 players online and it ran fine. Also, you didn't have to pick a seat and hit a key to enter the chopper, although that was an option, you could just jump into the cargo bay and walk around fine while flying.

ArmA II has a great system for autorotation and if you shoot the helicopter glass enough it breaks, if you hit the main engine it'll turn off (then you use autorotation to land safely) and if you hit the tail enough times also it would go off.

Don't tell me it would stress hixboxes and BS like that. We're in 2011, computers can do crazy things.

I still don't think anyone should make assumptions about what DICE can and cannot do in terms of technological strength, that seems pretty ignorant and naive.

Well I know of at least one chopper that lets you eject, the Hind D; it first detonates the blades off the chopper then it ejects the WHOLE cockpit.

I agree on the entering and exiting a vehicle animations, along with switching seats while in a vehicle as long as it's for all vehicles.

I have always thought that being able to instantly get a safe fall with the parachute is more unrealistic than being able to leap off the chopper in mid air; as you can safely land from wherever you jump off no matter what, completely disrgarding the acceleration from the fall.
You can jum form 20 thousand feet in the air, open the chute just before you hit the ground and still land in one piece, it really stresses suspension of disbelief.
I for one enjoyed the fact that even not being able to go up the hill on the first port valdez spawn; you can pick up attackers while they are parachuting down. you know, like it actually was during WWII and how it actually is for every soldier in a chute in plain sight.

This is one of the ever ongoing debates of gameplay vs realism; what makes a game balanced doesn't necesarily reflect real life, and some real life stuff would make for a very unbalanced game.

It's like ehwn they implement jamming weapons; in.game you end up with rifles that no army would ever use if they did jam as frequently as those in-game; while I understand its needed for balance, game soldiers always take their sweet sweet time reloading weapons; at least BC2 for the most part lets you reload while running.

Now, on to squads: anybody expecting more squadplay from pubs just because the only spawn point is the squad leader are deluding themselves. you very very rarely see good team play from pubbers, specially with no comm rose to relay instructions; YES, Bad company 2 has less team play overall because it DOESNT have the tools previous entries in the franchise had ON PC, on consoles coordinating is easier since VoIP is pretty much standard for both consoles and it's somewhat faster to communicate, disabling the comm rose for the PC version was a big mistake and I'm sure they have realized that.
On PC it doesn't matter who you spawn on, you have no way to relay your battleplan to anybody and be realistic and honest; lone wolves will lone wolf it comm rose or not.

the other teamplay killer on BC2 on the PC is that bug where you can stack the teams during a match completely one sided that hasn't been patched; why bother with teamplay if you can stack the teams and warantee an easy win?
Also you can't issue any other command except Attack/Defend flag/crate and spot baddies. So even if you are playing for points, you can't issue an attack order on the sniper on top of a tower and why would your "teamm ates" go kill it and let go of the easy points near the flag/crate?
There is no way to ask a fellow wookie to mortar an specific point; they have no way to warn you; that is more detrimental for team play than having squads reduced to 4 pepole, when they remove all ways to ask for/order things done.

I Dont think that was the Hind, it was the KA-50 (that attack chopper with 1 seat and the stacked rotors, one on top of the other) IIRC

You know, I went to play 2142 again; and aside that I did much MUCH better after playing BC2 I also was missing the insta spot button.

They should keep the rose for issuing orders and asking for supplies and everything else, but also keep the insta spot and still keep the drop down menu for manually spotting; that would be awesome.

Also I kept pressing F to lob grenades and I was like WTF where is my nade! And then... DUH!

Really? I did awful after playing BC2. The mechanics in BC2 are so much smoother.
