People always forget that screen resolution makes a huge difference in game performance... If you're playing on a smaller screen 17 to 19 or 20," you won't need as much power as if you were playing in a 24" monitor. I'm fairly certain that if you aren't playing on a huge monitor a higher end C2D and a good DX10/11 card will do you fine (8800GT and up). Not necessarily highest graphics, but you're not going to be just barely squeaking along either.
