Two people going at it until hitreg decided enough was enough and randomly gave the kill to either one?

I think its OK, nothing to write home about. Its easier than BF but a bit harder than CoD. The strange slashing that cuts through anything is kinda weird.

        Re: Combat Knife

Just to vent my frustrations with this current knifing system, I completely agree that it takes very little skill. Given that the knifing combat in BF games has always had issue, the current laggy game play, essentially no ability to hear footsteps, especially in combat, awarding dog tags is lame. You might as well award dog tags for sniping, grenade launching, tanks kills as well.

I can see them doing this for the console, but it would be easy enough to make a player select the knife first, then use it for the PC version. This also goes for the grenade as well. Hopefully people don't translate the number of dog tags they collect with any skill in playing this game, but I doubt that will happen.

I don't quite get this whole "knifing takes lots of skill" thing. Perhaps people are just seeing the past through rose-colored glasses? (google it if you don't know what I mean).

I don't ever recall anything being difficult about knifing people in BF2142. It was EXTREMELY easy to switch between the knife and back because you could easily hit the "1" with your ring finger while still using WASD to walk. It took minimal coordination to quickly switch to the knife and back. Once you had the knife equipped it functioned exactly the same way as it does in BC2.

So basically, I don't get what the commotion is all about. Sure they're different systems, but one isn't really superior to the other. I'm entirely indifferent on this one.

It doesn't, but DICE pretends it does by adding the "feature" of collecting dogtags. Why don't they do this for all of the kills you get? If they didn't have the dog tag "feature", less people would be likely to go for the knife kill and just play the game. What you end up is people playing a different game (let's see how many dog tags I can collect instead of actually playing the game.

Yeah. Although I can't deny that it's rather fun to humiliate a sniper or some unsuspecting noob by knifing them, but the people who go out of their way to get knife kills make me laugh. I mean seriously, who brings a knife to a gun fight?

Yes but Jake you wouldnt have whipped it out in CQC in 2142 would you? Why?

Because you would get mowed down before you even changed weapon.

Wait, wait, wait. Knife-frag-videos in BC2 will not be as cool as the vids in BF2/2142? (Sorry, thats the only advantage I could think of)

I think Vreki brought this up once, a riflebutt to the face would have been far cooler. Knife with handgun equipped would have been OK (provided it didnt have any autoaim).

I've been hit with RPG's, 40 MM grenades, shotgun shells while knifing someone. You seem impervious once you've clicked the knife button. When you're in CQB with multiple people, hold fire and knife them. It's far easier to kill multiple people with a knife instead of an assault rifle.

The thing with dogtags is not a display of skill; just a souvenir to end all those "I killed you" "no you didn't" flame wars between leet kids. This way you can show not only you DID kill this person, but you did it with the knife. I think BF21|42 also let you sort a list of who has your tags, and lets you see if they are online or not, and join the server they are in as it tries to slot you in the opposing army so you can get revenge.

I don't get where did people get this idea killing with the knife is "skilled" vs killing with a rifle. I even read some discussion about dueling with "honor" and bs like that.

Firing a bullet from rifle - 1 left button mouse click.

Knifing a guy - One keyboard click.

Effort required ? : Exactly the same .

are you serious juno? 1 bullet does not insta kill, 1 stab does... you are really something...

us BF guys aren't especially happy with the new knife, but this change was done to accommodate MW guys, which DICE wants to win over.

He didn't say it was. Once you're finger is on the button, you'll keep firing. It's still faster to kill someone running at you with a gun rather than with a knife.

Weren't you the one a few posts back asking if there were throwing knives in the game?

Anyway, don't juxtapose your opinions on the whole community.

That's true, to a certain extent. I suppose people are more likely to use the knife now that it's one click away instead of two. I'd still use my primary weapon or a hand gun first though.

                                Re: Combat Knife

One bullet from a sniper rifle on HC does instant kill.

But yet people arent complaining about it, in fact, people complain that they dont 1 hit kill all the time.

Yet we have a lot of people not liking the knife kill system with its one button press death.

Again.. The physical mechanics are the same.

Just goes to show, can't please all the people all the time.

I've been knifed a few times and I didn't see it coming , or ive been shooting at them and they insta knife me, is it frustrating ? Sure.

But at the same token Ive done it enoguh times back to them
