I understand your point Jake. I think entitlement was too strong of a word. It threw me off at first. Other than that, I agree with you. DICE is a company first. Maybe a few people in these forums should stop taking the things they do personally. I laugh at the people who are adamantly against a multi-platform BF3. The only thing I "expect" from any developer is a polished product.

Dude i dont understand how so many people can play a game like that... cs1.6: no fun, allways same thing allways same tactics, nobody teamworks( you dont even have elements to do that) graphics are worse that squares, no physics its dumb and extremely repetitive(the most **** and repetitive game i have ever played) and i still dont understand how so many people play that and keep playing that.CS source is allways the same, just with better graphics and with physics this time... but the gameplay feeling is the same
Don't bash a game you never really even played. There's a reason its by far the best competitive game out there...

Yes, for the game that we purchased at that point and time. Not for the future of everything they create afterwards.

Which is why you chose to buy them or not and still does not entitle you to the next game.

Also, here is one to spin your head, patches are free!

Which reminds me, BF2 gave everyone the DLC for free.

I didnt want to challenge this but if they choose not to make the next game they go out of business simple?,can it be argued that patches add to reputation and thus Royalties for share holders thru repeat business and word of mouth?I mean if BF2 was fail BC2 could be fail no?

Yes, in simple terms if they dont make the next game or no one buys it, they go out of business. So you have this huge company, not DICE but EA, and they see 5 million people on Xbox and 2 million on PC. Now they have three choices. Go for the Xbox people, go for the PC people, or go for both. I just pulled those numbers out of the air btw. I dont have a clue on the actual totals.

Or look at this. What if Battlefield 1942, Vietnam, 2, and 2142 were all the exact same game. No changes at all, just different maps. Same engines and same weapons. All WW2 style. What happens?

In the BF3 rumors postings people have said they would pay to have BF2 with frostbite or 2142 with frostbite. Exact same game, weapons, vehicles, and maps, BUT updated and improved. Why? Lets just have DICE make patches for BFx forever and not do anything else. Because they can't. They will go stale and people will drop their games.

5 million new potential customers emerged (Those made up Xbox numbers) and they want them and those customers want Dice just as much as us, well maybe just as much, I dont really know.

If you dont adapt to changes in the market, your product becomes stale and no one buys it until you are the only one in that market or your name recognition is so huge, you dont need to worry about it anymore.

McDonalds was king of fast food for about 20 years, all of a sudden The King knocked em over and theyve been re-inventing themselves ever since and trying to keep up and get back ahead. McDonalds doesn't owe us new fries, we ate the ones we paid for.

Now should McyDs listen to its customers for feedback? Yes. Should they base their entire strategy on the small handful that provide feedback? No. Should they make changes for people that love the McRib but take out the BigMac? No. Choices for many tastes.

                    I'm crazy.

Not as crazy as you think.

The Commrose is one example; before it was implemented, people were on the fence about it being more good than bad; I recall a couple of "don't take away Fx key commands!" Then we got to play with it; and now it's "Bring back commrose!" The commrose works different in BF2 and 2142.

Also go back to the time when movement wasn't standarized to WASD; the set ups we take for granted today have a long story of refining over different FPS and developers; how "E" landed its place as the use/enter key; Ctrl for crouch, Shift for sprint. Did you know Z now functions as a commrose like system in AA3? and prone is on V by default.
Nowadays very few developers would dare to change the movement keys to someplace else; can you imagine a game where tab doesn't bring up a scoreboard/message screen? It's a very delicate proces nowadays; what with all the nerdrage.

A pearl: Remember the helmet upgrades from BF2142? Anybody remembers what they do? I mention it because of the accusations the new spot system has received as a "legal wallhack". Support told you what kit the enemy was, Recon made them stay longer on the netBAT; Engie showed health for vehicles and Assault health for troops. If every body in your squad had them, and it was a balanced squad; it was really like a wallhack lol
New spot system only shows a triangle above the approximate location of the enemy; for all of 3 seconds, and less if you lose line of sight with the spotted enemy.
One small feature that started on BF2, showing people on the minimap; evolved into what we have today; and no other game has it; it's a BF feature.

The Comms Rose added to the features and capabilities. It didn't take things away. As it is now, you can spam Q and never say the actual thing you want to.

Changing the default keys for movement or other actions really doesn't matter if the game allows you to remap the keys. When a game DOESN'T allow me to remap keys, I take it back or just uninstall it. My MERC isn't arranged quite like a normal keyboard so the ability to change binds is very important to keep games playable for me.

While I think the game works most of the time without prone, I still would like to have it. But the Q system is really irritating, along with the FoV and latency issues. And server browser. And weapon damage...

Oh, look. Dice fixed the server browser so it can be sorted and shows ping properly. They allowed FoV adjustment. And they're raising the weapon damage somewhat.

If no one had complained about any of those features, the game would have shipped in the beta state. Keeping your mouth shut is the best way of ensuring your voice is never heard.

And what about those old school games that didn't allow rebinding?

that's what I am referring to; that the current "standard" came to be because developers started experimenting.

As far as I recall; we didn't get WASD standarized before UT came out; and it was "weird" using WASD to move around in an FPS.

We are so used to some features in an FPS that we take them for granted.

Without entering the argument of "BC2 was dumbed down for consoles" I can see that DICE designed the game one way; that not necessarily pleased the PC fanbase; because it "took away" standard features; they have found out the hard way, you can't remove certain things from PC fPS without the whole lot complaining about it, sometimes with reason; sometimes just out of spite.

One comparison from another genre of games: Fighting games that use block buttons. Japanese love them, only one american company has ever used a button to map the blocking motion to it. Most 3D fighters make use of a button for blocking, with the only relevant game that doesn't use it being Tekken. American players deride the use of a button to block. So favorite series for fighting fans change on both sides of the Pacific: Tekken is seen as a dumbed down 3D fighter in japan, something you play for laughs; while virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur are seen as "more skilled".
When any of these games are ported to consoles; no one ever accuses them of being "dumbed down" for consoles; if anything, that no control pad ever can provide the button layout (and some motions ar easier on a joystick). And in fact; 3D fighters are even easier to play with a control pad vs a joystick.

The real problem I see with FPS being ported to consoles, or viceversa; is that: When ported from PC to console, standard controllers lack the ammount of buttons needed to map whatever features are seen as standard on PC; and the opposite: from console to PC, you get too many buttons that do nothing MICE BE DAMNED. Aiming boils down to what the developer can pull off; one of the best FPS ever was released on consoles with a propietary engine that no one has replicated: Goldeneye 007 for the N64 and the pinnacle of FPS goodness that was its spiritual follow up: Perfect Dark 64.
When you want to alk about skill; try no prone, no lean, no jump; just dodging ability. We had crouch but it was mostly useless outside of single player.

And now I'm digressing but I welcome an argument about this on a separate topic.
