But that's what CoD is all about. You buy it for its story and enhances. It isn't going to be completely different with every game besides the setting, only enhances. That is what a good sequel does.

Meanwhile MW2 obviously has not done a lot either, however, a new SP story is key to the progression of the game and thus can only enhance the MP with more customisation, maps etc.
      1. Nobody cares about singleplayer it has no replay value anyway. And it's just a mash up of ideas out together, and threaded with a story that makes absolutely no sense.
      2. Go log more then 20+ hours with L4D2,, you cant say anything about the game based on the demo. The demo had less then 20% of the weapons and content.
      3. MW2 is just a simple mod to CoD4, I played better community mods then this. IW knows this and therefore, eliminated their competition.
      4. L4D2 added more maps and weapons to the game then MW2, and that is a fact.

for some people a simply paint job or "refinement" is enough, and enough for the stupid price tag

for me it got a bit obvious a while ago that CoD was quite stagnant and going for simple thrills

Actually, there are a lot of people who play games for the singleplayer aspect.

I only used to buy games for SP until a few years ago.

The singleplayer also sets the theme of the game. Maps/factions are largely bases on the story i.e the singleplayer.

You making the point that simply guns and the mele weapons are a selling point of the game itself proves my point. (there is no real progression in the gameplay from the last one, a few twists, same as CoD.)

          3. MW2 is just a simple mod to CoD4, I played better community mods then this. IW knows this and therefore, eliminated their competition.
          B2142 is a mod for bf2
COD2 is a mod for CoD.
          L4d2 is a mod for L4d

Same knee-jerk argument that never ends. However, mw2 is a progression the story.

          4. L4D2 added more maps and weapons to the game then MW2, and that is a fact.

Maps and weapons are things I can get from the community from L4D. (Sounds like the infamous 'booster packs').

On the same note, BF2142 and L4D2 didn't charge an extra $10 for less content. MW2 removed dedicated servers, removed console, removed the ability for modders to add custom content. I own the game, I play it, and I find it entertaining, but that does not mean I will continue to support IW.

Re: Community views on L4D vs CoD series.

Both games have a story that doesn't really progress it's a mining less plot to tie in their random incoherent gamplay ideas that they came up with. Playing MW2 is like being a kid with ADD that needs a change, of scenery and environment every 10 minutes. L4D didn't even have a single story, each campaign has its own version of the story of 4 survivors fighting their way to a safe zone. In fact L4D doesn't care about the story that much.

BF2142 would be a total conversion mod for BF2, you would have to make absolutely every model and animation from the ground up. Your argument about BF2142 being a just a mod of BF2 holds no ground. Yes it uses the same engine but other then that the games are quite unique.

L4D2 updated the AI director which would be, impossible to make a mod for the original game since it would involve totally modifying the game engine, for the AI director to be able to change paths in each campaign. It's not just weapons added altho they are a big bonus.

Stop being a MW2 fanboy, and understand that you lost more features and gained absolutely nothing with MW2. I bet the paintball mod for COD4 took more effort to make then MW2. In fact I'll say that making W@W, took more effort then making MW2.

I own every single COD game that came out for the PC, it's unfortunate that they made MW2 totally undesirable. My collection stops with W@W, for now.

Again, you are saying that L4D essentially has no story, the initial question of the thread if im not mistaken was which game is more of a progression from the last. MW2 is In terms of story, which In my opinion is a bigger progression that the small gameplay twists that are in L4D2 (mw2).

Urm... Thats the point that I was making, you saying that MW2 is just a mod for COD4 can be likened to the people saying B2142 is just a mod for BF2.
Actually, MW2 has new maps, new models/textures (some old) obviously they had to rig new character etc. Dont underestimate the amount of work that takes.

                You are contradicting yourself there.

Actually I would be surprised if modders were not able to alter it in some way, as GVD said, DICE thought it was impossible to get helicopters working properly in 1942 and DC did it. Also, improving the AI director is not a funder-mental change to the game.

LOL. Yes im a mw2 fanboy, you caught me! excuse my while I take off my nightvision to put down next to my 360.

I also own all the CoD games that came out for PC (and 2 for PS2). To be honest, I found WaW less interesting than MW2. Sure you can ***** and cry all you want that dedicated servers are gone, however, my own experience in playing is that is playable, does this justify the removal of dedis? No obviously not.

Re: Community views on L4D vs CoD series.

So you're trying to tell me L4D2 isn't a complete rip off the original one? The maps are all the same. You run around shooting zombies until you get to a horde event, run some more, horde event, end of campaign. Same as L4D.

MW2 adds to the story of CoD4. I was surprised by some of the twists in the SP. Yes dedicated servers were a step down, however it really didn't change your MP experience, did it?

In many cases, the sequel continues elements of the original story, often with the same characters and settings.
Both games fit being a sequel, but L4D2 brought nothing more than a predictable story and new weapons. The only enjoyable thing in L4D2 is 'Scavenge' because it wasn't in L4D.

On the other hand MW2 doesn't have a predictable plot and it also has new weapons, but also has many new features that you normally don't see in FPS's.

Actually the maps are quite a bit different this go round. They put quite a bit more thought into the game it seems. Which yes, I know thought into a zombie game, but its not just run from point A to point B while fighting off sporadically launched hordes.

I will give COD4 and MW2 credit for taking most of what has been good about modern shooters and perfecting the formula, and I hate the COD series.

No. But surely you don't think MW2 to be a sublime piece of literary genius? It may have more of a completely storyline and plot than most games, but it is extremely predictable and dull.

If I want a good plot, I'll read some literature or watch a good movie. I wouldn't come to MW2 for that. If you actually do so, you must be poorly educated in literature.

Saying that the plot of MW2 is unpredictable (which implies that it's great) and a good enough reason for buying the game is like comparing Twilight to great literature like Orwell, Dostoyevsky, Conrad, Homer, etc.

L4D2 isn't a very story driven game, the different levels have very little connection with each other and you aren't supposed to play it in SP for any longer time anyway. So yea, it's predictable in a sense.

But where as L4D2 improved the gameplay of the first game heaps and bounds, I wouldn't call MW2 an improvement or even refinement over CoD4.

They're both meh. I got bored with L4D very quickly, and MW2 downgraded the multiplayer experience (imo). I can wait for something better :wee:.
