Re: Will there be a BF 2143?

yeh some stuff about the future was great, I mean walkers and mechs yeh could see that, but they were dam intimidating ha

and active defence, loved how that worked

but I have to tend to agree with Chris a bit, (ho ho ho) because while I loved 2142 and enjoyed it immensely, it was never as memorable or struck me as much as BF2 did (not sure how to explain it, BF2 just had a charm and brilliance that wowed me when I got it), 2142 was great but it never stuck in my mind like moments in BF2 did

I guess thats just down to the circumstances but I think more fondly of BF2, even with all its faults (when unmodded) and its moments of through the roof RAGE.... is strange but meh

Its not strange, its your experiences and there is nothing wrong with that. I didnt like BF2 as much as I did 1942 and 2142. For me its 1942 then 2142 then BF2 then Vietnam. I felt that BF2 was kinda meh myself, but whatever. I felt BF2 was always broken. Everything I liked in the game, DICE nerfed. Everything that didnt work correctly in the start continued not to work correctly. If I would have liked some of the same things as everyone else, then I probably would say BF2 was the best thing ever.

yet you are diving right into the part that you didnt like, the future.
        What? Haha!

I was specific about DICE not using science fiction to it's fullest. I have absolutely no problems with "the future" aspect of it. Flying spaceships, pods and robots are all fine and dandy, until you realize that walking robots didn't really feel to be packing a punch, their weaponry was entirely conventional and even silly-looking-feeling, spacestations were OK and I liked the pods, though. A few certain cool items does not a good game make, though.

Re the future aspect, I never had that feeling when playing the game, it felt very contemporary (at least to me). I first bought 2142 played for a year and then bought BF2, was never a fan of it and it never grew on me, just couldn't give me the same comfortable feeling as 2142 and besides it was completely air dominated.

I remember when DICE was making the game they said they would go with realistic and possible stuff, they wouldnt go crazy about the future with space wars , lazers and droids. I'm pretty sure i read somewhere they where actually using prototypes of real weapons and war gadgets and modifying them a bit. I really loved the story and it definitely had singleplayer potential

What I meant to say was you went into the part that I wasnt even covering. That is, the part you didnt like, the lack of in-depth sci-fi.

I still agree with you and you cant make me change my mind on that.

                Hah!

I don't want to mislead you, though. By sci-fi, I don't mean 3000 years into the future kind of unconventional warfare. But the games aspects felt like a bit changed or neutered BF2 counterparts.

Hmmm, this has been a very discussed topic. I think there lays the answer.

i remember when the game was still in testing, one of the developers (who's name i do not remember) made a comment about that. he was saying how it was futuristic, but not w/ a bunch of lasers. they wanted to keep real bullets to retain an effect of realism w/ a touch of the future.

                      I remember that comment.

Except that instead it looks like something without connection to real life (realistic functionality) or fiction (unforeseeable future tech). In this case, it's comparable to UT2004. There are vehicles. And weapons with rectangular scopes.

there were some ridiculous things though like infantry sonar and active countermeasures. the guns that shot bullets for the most part were good. PK rockets turned into the most spammy cheese weapon of all time and ability to carry upto 3 nades and quick resupplying made a lot of the really well made infantry maps play horrible. they could've made very little changes that could've made 2142 so much better but they totally didn't give it the attention it needed. for one, explosives should always cause self damage like in BC2 even with ff off to prevent RDX abusers.

2142 for me was just like any other BF game and it played like it for me. i enjoyed it a lot, as i enjoyed the previous BF games. i think they all had good and bad things about them but i like them all equally.

You mean the disjointed aspects and items taken from random popular science fiction media? Vehicles which "looked" sci-fi, but played like neutered versions of previous Battlefield games? Even when we take infantry only into consideration, there was no unified "this makes sense in 2142" arsenal. Except for rectangular scopes... oh wait...

I think we may have lost Redfield.

What I don't know is if this is a good or bad thing.

Do you think he feels joining CSN have castrated TGN forum abilities and are we now noobified ? Maybe it was the new achievements.
