    I concur with that.

And by "slippery slope", I didn't mean hacking. Just that more and more lame/questionable tactics could become more and more prevalent, until that's all the game would be - one big chaotic mess that only the core group who knew all of the "tricks" would enjoy. And that is not good for the long-term health of the game or community.

Agreed, but what more questionable tactics are you thinking of? Barring exploits and hacks, of course.

That's pretty much the dogma I've been preaching since way back when (even moreso since they tweaked the whole prone thing in this patch...it appears even DICE wants to do something with the prone nonsense), but according to Bazajaytee, adding deviation when going prone would require a big rewrite of code or some kind of major restructuring.

Apparently BF2 and BF2142 don't have as much in common as people believe.

        Pity. But I guess there's always BF2142.

I'm not the kind of player who tries to find glitches or "tricks" on purpose, so I can't speak specifically to what might be possible in BF2...but off the top of my head from some older games that I used to play, stuff like deathnading, suicide nades, clipping, spawnkilling/spawncamping (on game modes like TDM where you're not capturing a flag/base/etc), in addition to any other combination of button presses that might produce some sort of unexpected animation or result.

There was a lot of stuff that technically those games allowed a player to do, that wasn't considered cheating/hacking, but the majority of the community agreed was lame or unfair, so most people didn't do it and server admins would kick people who did. That's the sort of thing I was thinking about. If everyone would've adopted those tactics, instead of trying to identify and prevent them, those games would've been pure chaos, and only a smaller core group would've enjoyed them.

Regardless of how any of us feel about prone diving, I think most of us can agree that this is not the right fix.

I wish they could've just ported BF2 over to the 2142 engine so they can add an accuracy delay (not that I am particularly in favor of this, but at least we could go back to the old jump-prone delay). Plus there would be a lot of benefits for modders that are unwilling to move to 2142 for fear of losing players.

                Bf2 is not a simulator...it's an fps.

Those complaining about the .3...seriously, you haven't figured out how to kill us that may react that way? Try aiming lower in anticipation. Why are you complaining about some guy jumping repeatedly? They can't shoot at you while doing so!

I'll admit fault. I've been playing since 2005, and i've been part of the silent majority who quietly cursed each gameplay tweak that would be suited towards the less experienced player.

But at this point it seems you guys really are being proactive in hearing the concern thus my finally standing up. keep it at .3

                ========

Why must those those who are comfortable and adapted to existing gameplay told 'adapt to change' by people who have failed to adapt to the existing game?

These same people will always find something they want to tweak to make it easier/more adaptable for them. It's on par with those who rent servers to enforce idiotic rules like 'order of flags' or 'no snipers' to make it easier for them.

                ========

Most modern shooters seem to be aiming towards the console turning casual pc gamer and getting progressively easier. Look at fear2..ridiculous. What's the next patch going to be including, aim assistance? Enemy health bars visible to all classes?

                =========

Could you concentrate on existing gameplay issues that actually interfere with the flow of the game?

                - sniper zoom in/out glitch
                - double reload glitches
                - reload animation loop glitches
                - repeated heal/resupply sound loops
                - gun firing sound loops
                - wrong weapon displayed on 'killed by' messages
                - repeat award issuing glitches
                - missing server info on load screen and in game
                - missing server banner images on load screen occasionally
                - hitting refresh on server favorites actually wipes them out
                - kit switches that ctd
                - kit switches that lead to weapon with no ammo (when dropped it was full)
                - kit switches that lead to weapon showing no ammo or noise when firing yet hits register until the weapon ammo count 'catches up' (up to 5 sec).
                - nade throws that get stuck mid-way
                - nade throw glitches that may lead to throwing 2 nades at once
                - at rockets that pass through the armor
                - tow rockets that pass through armor
                - friendly mines/clays that may not show the redskull occasionally (yes the feature is toggled on)
                - spec op c4 glitch that may throw the last pack/dentonate at the same time
                - wall glitches...can we stop these guys finally? Many locations have been known for awhile.

I'm not a big pilot, but i'm sure there are plenty more in regards to flying and air maps.

                Then there are:
                - padding servers (kills/points/revives/time)

i'll not get on the hacker aspect as that's a whoooole 'nother thread.

Thanks for your time, and the poll.
Bottom line. Whatever you tweak, good players will remain good and those who can't figure out how to play at that level will cry for change again. Keep it at .3

*why do I have the feeling that the poll results will be ignored and some sort of compromise will be made...throwing it the face of those who voted .3?

One thing puzzles me the most:

Why are users that use dolphin-dive considering themselves as good players?

How come pressing "Z" key when spoting enemy is considered a skill?

dd's are always delusional, and unskilled or clueless players moaning for advantage, can kill the confidence of the game maker, so nerf stroke becomes overkill i.e. the Z button, quite a skill huh?

Apparently, considering how many people are complaining over the fact that they can't do it.

In my opinion, if you want realism, go play project reality. Leave BF2 alone for the people that just want to have fun and get better at the game.

I really don’t have anything against dolphin-divers/good-players but does it mean that players that don’t use dolphin-dive are bad players?

I have enjoyed BF2 for almost 4 years now and plan on doing it for few more years but just can’t see what is fun in pressing “Z” key as soon as you see an opponent?

Or are you saying that since I don’t use dolphin-dive I don’t enjoy the game as much as dolphin-divers do?

Just use the damn "Z" key when you need to lol

LOL, i have no problem shooting people out of the air. when they go prone it's even easier. most of the time i kill them even before they hit the ground when they go prone. if i'm close i'll just jump over them and do a 180 and knife or shoot them. i love knifing support when they go prone.

get some skill, people can't shoot back while in the air.

PS: i'm no pro, i'm about average.

Yup not being able to adapt to gameplay mechanics is a skill huh? Get over it. I have no problem killing bunny hoppers and dolphin divers. It's called aiming, you should try it.

See...that's adaptation. Plus, when you go prone, your body is in a straight line facing your opponent with only the head exposed. So you are at a disadvantage to the better shot.

These people bitching about jump/proning (b/c it's not dolphin diving) are probably the same weak players that would back in the day use the Game Genie on the NES games they felt were too hard
