Re: Dolphin Diving Fix in 1.5 BF2 Patch voting

There's a HUGE difference, between knowing how to play it, and enjoying playing it.
I paid my dues looong before BF2 ever came out.
Anyone that uses macs, exploits, cheats , or any other tactic not intended in-game, is taking away the overall gameplay for the TRUE BF Vets.

2142, BF:H, and LMAO the newly titled 1943 is doing a HUGE disservice to this franchise.
Depending on how BFBC2 looks, and runs, that will probably be my one and only last purchase for the BF series.

People that are using these types of tactics are usually ones that can not play without them.
Needing some type of edge or advantage. Simply means you have no GAMING skills what so ever, other than with alittle added help.
People that actually pay to use hax, are even more retarded than the people using the free ones.

How can you define what "knowing how to play is"? To me, that almost means knowing how to sprint, shoot, enter vehicles.

Someone may play the game in a way that contradicts your idea of "how to play the game", yet they still enjoy it? Is this a problem?

I think you should define a "true BF vet", seems like a sort of lame way of describing a player that conforms to your ideas and standards of playing (usually one that plays in such a way that you kill him and not the other way around).

Correct me if i'm wrong, but unlike hacks, there is no document that tells you what you can and can't do (apart from RoE etc...). Whilst they may not have meant to allow so called dolphin diving, there is nothing saying you can't do it?

It's not a manipulation of the game code or physics, it's just making the best of what you have, prone and jump. BF2 is about winning, coming top and if you don't adapt to the gameplay and learn tactics to overcome others, then you will never get far.

Quite the opposite really. I'm quite glad that DICE are trying new things. If they hadn't, people would complain of a stagnant franchise. Agreed, Heroes probably doesn't suit the BF name (although it's a good game), but they trying something different here, gauging what works and what doesn't.

It's only going to cost £10-£15, hardly a lot really. But, if you're not going to buy it, all the better for us, we won't have to listen to the constant complaints

If I'm not mistaken, and I could very well be, I don't believe any other Battlfeild game has dolphin diving, or at the very least has heavy recoil added when you hit the prone key, than after a split second, normal accuracy and recoil for being prone kicks back in. essentially not allowing the insta-prone 1-hit kill.

DICE would essentially just be making bf2 like; BF:1942, BF:V, BF:2142, BF:Bad Company, etc.

BF2 is the only game in the battlefield franchise that has this insta-prone kill and dolphin diving issue, which would unfortunately imply that these abilities were never meant to be used the way they are in the game.

I don't care if there's dolphin diving or not, don't have an issue with it. It doesn't effect my ability to kill players whether they dolphin dive or not. It seem for the players that want dolphin diving still in the game, are players who rely on it to get anything done in the game.

Keep the .3, increase deviation when you go prone. That or just keep it at .3, the better hitboxes should help a lot.

I can see 2142 maybe "being a disgrace", if you thought it sucked that bad, but it's pretty clear that 1943 and Heroes weren't meant to be in the 1942-Vietnam-2-2142 line of Battlefield games. They're side games.

With all due respect, that statement can be used against you. If dolphin diving were to be cut out completely, why couldn't you just do what you said above; adapt to the gameplay and learn tactics to overcome others? If dolphin diving was gone completely why coudn't you use the same advice you just gave all of use to still come out on top in bf2?

or are you one of those people who don't actually do the things that you preach to others

Has anyone gotten the feel of the new prone delay? Hopefully ducking for cover isnt effected.

These extra .4 seconds could be to aim an accurate shot, rather then an instant one with less recoil.
This delay also takes away from high ping users who meet the enemy around a corner and disappear to shoot you in an instant.

Im just glade the hit boxes are supposedly fixed and this jump diving issue is resolved.

No where in the terms and contract does it state that you can't bunnyhop

It does however say no modifying code for unfair advantages (gtfo hacks!)
Nor does it say in the terms and contract ( which EA very rarely enforces ) that arse holes can interrupt other peoples game play by team killing, etc, etc.

                    +1. I agree.

And I've always said, when it comes to some questionable/grey-area tactics in games, "just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should."

Long-term, these things damage a game and its community - they drive more people away than they attract.

So people should hinder themselves from becoming better players so the newer players don't get discouraged? It's up to the developers to balance the game, not the players.

There will always be tactics in games that will be seen as questionable - dolphin diving in BF2, martyrdom etc in CoD4, Russian jumping in CS, you name it. Some will embrace it and get used to it, and in the end actually like it, and there are those that thinks it's lame but keeps playing because it doesn't detract too much from their experience.

I personally think they should keep the 0.3 delay because quite frankly, it speeds up the game a little bit, makes 1v1 situations a bit more dynamic and it adds an extra layer of skill to the game (believe it or not, doing spastic movements and dodging bullets is nothing you learn overnight). Not to mention cool little jumps through windows and stuff you can do. Don't change something that a lot of people have grown accustomed to, or even spent a lot of time perfecting. Can't beat em, join em. If you want a realistic game, you're looking in the wrong place.

I could very well see some sort of accuracy nerf whn going prone, but I love the game as-is even though it's silly

If we are talking realism here, dolphin diving is a fracking joke and going prone AFTER you spot an enemy (assuming he spots ya too) is a horrbile idea unless its 150m away or more. Ive been in combat, these are facts!

I agree completely but why say realistic?in real life you can jump thru windows and if your being shot at you can clear 6ft fences without touching them trust me(though i dont want that in game lol)

Having said that no flying or jet lee tricks, but the game feels balanced between real and fun to me with .3:salute:

For the most part, I agree with this. Good developers should be able to test/recognize when features in the game allow the exploitation of certain animations, tactics, etc, and either fix them prior to release, or soon afterward when they start becoming an issue. As you mentioned, COD4's Martyrdom was a good example...sounded OK on paper, but really annoying in practice once enough noobs got a hold of it. IW's arrogance prevented them from doing anything about it. At least Treyarch recognized how much people hated it and applied some counters/adjustments. Hopefully MW2 will be better.

                              ..

But I can't agree with a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach. In most cases, whether in gaming or other aspects of life, this becomes a very slippery slope and leads to things just sliding further down into the gutter. It becomes a game of the lowest common denominator, which is not a good thing. Some people are used to it after all this time, but if you take a step back and just watch, it's honestly laughable just how much of this goes on.

                              ..

And this isn't a flame directed toward you in particular, but I hate how people try to make it into a black/white "total realism" issue. It's not about complete realism, nor should it be totally arcadey and silly...ideally, it should be somewhere in the middle.

Diving for cover/going prone is largely a defensive tactic in the real world when done quickly. As an offensive tactic, laying down to make your shot more stable and accurate, it requires more time and set up. The game doesn't have to be 100% accurate, but should at least reflect this in a general way. Currently, (or at least before the patch) all this diving is being used as both an offensive and defensive tactic at the same time, and that's where the problem comes in for a lot of players.

If someone goes out onto a field, runs along with their weapon, and then dives onto their stomach, there is no way they will be able to shoot with any accuracy for a couple of seconds. When a soldier encounters an enemy at close range, he quickly brings his weapon up and shoots...he doesn't flop down, because he knows he'll be at a disadvantage for several seconds and probably be shot. When taking fire from further away, especially against an unseen enemy, then he'll prone to make himself a smaller target until he can locate the enemy and return fire. In general, this is how it should work.

I like the idea someone suggested that you should still be able to dive/prone quickly, but your aim should be very inaccurate for a longer period of time, and ironsighting not even possible for those couple seconds. Make it a truly emergency defensive tactic. You can evade the shot, but your own return shot deviation will be high. After a couple seconds, bring the offensive component into play, and make the aim and accuracy of the proned player even better. One or the other, but not at the same time. This will encourage players to aim and shoot when they come across an enemy close-up, instead of flopping around, and it will encourage them to be smarter as they move around, instead of running/gunning blindly knowing they can save themselves with a spastic dive/flop.

Again, we're not talking about total simulation-level realism, but just some sort of middle ground that doesn't make the game silly.

Slippery slope? Really, there's a difference between cheap tactics in game and hacking. I occasionally bunnyhop and jihad jeep, but would I ever exploit glitches or hack? No.

Like I said before, keep .3 seconds, and make it like 2142 where deviation increases after the prone. Dolphin diving shouldn't be a offensive tactic, force the divers to use it more defensively.
