Re: Could ARMA 2 be the true successor to Battlefield 2?

@Minmaster - I don't think the popularity and power of a game like BF2 is lost on developers/publishers, but they are limited by the technology of current-gen Consoles, and because of economics, it doesn't make sense for most of them to make a PC-only game when the real profits come from Console sales.

I do think we'll see more games like BF2, especially once the 3rd Gen of Consoles (PS4 & Xbox3) show up a few yrs down the road. They should be powerful enough for the player numbers and size of battles that many people want, and at that time, companies can make those games for both Consoles and PC, thus maximizing their profits.

OP2 won't appeal to BF2 players any more than ARMA does. Regular players don't want to spent 90 seconds setting up their Javelin before they can fire.

Agreed, and that very sentiment is apparent in other series as well. The addition of perks in games such as Call of Duty has been done to appeal more to the casual crowd, and, while it may not be a perfect example, demonstrates the general community's desire for more casual games.

I personally love simulators like ArmA and I find them to be much more entertaining than games such as BF2 when played with the right team, primarily because you can do so much more in the open-world with realistic weaponry, but it's not much of a boredom-killer as it requires more time/focus to play properly.

If it's anything like the first ArmA then absolutely not.

The player limit is theoretically unlimited. The game only officially supports 50+ or something however this is NOT hard coded. We have played at IC-ArmAIC-ArmA with 128 people at one time with no lag. We still regularly play and i mean week on week with 80 people in a battle at one time.
