Could ARMA 2 be the true successor to Battlefield 2?

A friend just showed the trailer to ARMA 2 with a tentative Q2 or Q3 release date. I wasn't big on ARMA: Armored Assault, because it seemed like no one was playing it, but 2 looks a lot better with the trailer being an obvious knock on Battlefield 2 (in fact I thought it was Battlefield 3 at first glance). With the Battlefield games going the way of the consoles (or dinosaur as I like to say), could ARMA 2 pick up those that feel left behind by the Battlefield series.

I know towards the end a lot of players went more infantry oriented, something I felt went against the Battlefield concept. ARMA 2 seems to really go all out with infantry and vehicles (looks like Jets and Planes too). I usually played a sniper and it looks like there will be lots of terrain for me to explore. I can't wait to get back in with a full crew of people on Teamspeak (hopefully TS3, by the time of the games release) and have some fun again.

That looked so much uglier than I thought it would be.

Resemblance to BF2 where? It's not even trying to be anything like it. It has vehicles but that's pretty much it.

I don't think this appeals too much for the average BF fan unless you only play BF2 for the very few realistic parts of it.

I can understand people not liking how the new BF games seem to turn out, but to be honest I'd rather like that than a realistic combat simulator.

The first one was pretty craptacular all things considered, but the visual difference between the first and the new trailer are like night and day. And I don't see them being able to make Battlefield 3 on current tech look any better if it is made.

I can't wait for demo to be released, to try it.

How can you compare a simulator to a battlefield game? Arma was terrible. Judging by the trailers nothing seems to have changed much, looks fairly poor. OFP2 looks a lot more promising for battlefield fans, it also has a somewhat arcadeish mode...

Voted yes because it looks more intersting than 1943 or heroes. Just depends on what Dice is doing.

ARMA 2 will be a war simulator in the strictest sense of the word.....no room for error period.

i think operation flashpoint 2 dragon rising will appeal more to the BF2 and COD4 players as they have mentioned having a game mode that will much like BF2 in its arcade style. there's some actual gameplay from it contained in the video i linked below.
