I remember DICE stressing about 6 months ago at how happy they were going to keep their "hardcore PC fans". I don't know about you guys, but right now I'm pissed off. That's about 10 steps away from "happy".

I know they're not obliged to make a PC game. It's not like congress signed the "BF3 Act of 2009" into law. I just hope they know how much they're abandoning their original fan base.

If they think a BF2 patch is going to shut everyone up, they're dangerously stupid. I don't even play BF2 any more. It's been done to death.

They market's certainly there. I'm just trying to figure out what they have against making money.

and battlefield is one of those franchises that have no problems with piracy on pc. (not as much as other games anyway)

i bet BF:BC alone was more pirated then BF2 and 2142 put together and its a console game.

i hope all this time in the dark brings us good news sooner or later.

i dont care if the game only comes out next year or the year after that, i just want some info and screenshots to check out from time to time.

Why would they announce "BF3" before releasing BF:H? All that would do is make people completely forget about BF:H altogether. Wait until BF:H is finally released before you start expecting a "BF3" announcement.

Hehe, everyone gets pissed off over nothing.

Of course DICE will wait with the BF3 announcement until BFH or has been released. But don't the consolers deserve a little bit of BF too? I know plenty of people that play BFBC on the 360.

So let's see, that game came out only last year (less than a year) and it already has its sequel announced and dated. We haven't heard **** in 3 years and a half about a BF3, even though the game was a mega hit, sold very well, scored great reviews and put up with all of the f'ed up patch problems... Yeah I think I'm pissed...

That's because PC games last A LOT longer than console games. In general, console gamers stick with their new games maybe a month or two before moving on to a new game.

Which makes console games even MORE of a cash cow, so if they can poop out two games within a year's time and people will pay full price for them, that's more money than they've gotten out of the average BF2 player in 4 years. I don't know what percentage, if any, EA gets out of server rentals for BF2/BF2142, nor do I know how BFBC servers work (are they rented like BF2 servers or are they sponsored?), but I'd imagine selling more games in a shorter time is a bigger boost to their bottom line. Then again, with a game like BF2 that still draws money from server rentals and hasn't needed much maintenance at all in the past three years, it's kind of what WoW is to Blizzard, albeit on a smaller scale - notice they're in no hurry to make a WoW2. Although one could argue that they've made expansions to it, but at $15/month per person playing it they're making money hand over fist without even needing to make a new game to generate more revenue. That's essentially like selling a brand new game every three months, without actually having to make a new game to do so.

Back when 2142 was announced there was a lot of bitching that it was "too soon" for another Battlefield game.

I sort of feel like I've just arrived at the ability to play Battlefield 2/2142 with all graphic options turned to high, a new engine would most likely mean we would all start over at the bottom (or middle) and have to upgrade to the top again.

I'm sure that Vista's lack of adoption rate has also had an impact on game design, look at the fiasco it generated for Crytek - destructible game assets like trees and buildings only if you're playing on a DX10 server, of which there were few at release and since has been dropped all together.

The things that people want or expect from a new Battlefield game would be pretty hard to implement, there have been advances in computing power but for the most part internet connections haven't gotten leaps and bounds faster, something you need for massive player counts and destructible environments. If Battlefield 3 ended up being Battlefield 2 with better graphics people would turn their nose up at it.

people that want to play bf:h wont forget about it, its a casual game made to be played by everyone anywhere even in completely normal old laptops, lots of people are looking forward to that.

anywho, maybe they are having trouble with the heat seeking, if a BF3 came out with its AA and unbalanced planes like BF2 has, it would be the 1st BF game i wouldn't buy, most vehicle maps in BF2 are pretty annoying.

thats something BF2142 did alot better, vehicle maps are alot more fun there and everything seems more balanced.

welp, it seems we can all stfu now. Both titles will be coming to the PC. 1943 seems to be a downloable game and will be out summer 09 and bf:bc2 will be here next winter.
