When i first started flying it was on dragon valley in the chinese attack chopper on single player. I got a bot gunner and practiced tailing enemy choppers and capping flags. Eventually i tryed using the american chopper and once used to it i began trying to fly under the bridge above the cliff at high speeds or under the pipes at the chinese airfield. It worked great for getting the hang of dodging objects to avoid aa.

Never do any barrel rolls or flips in a heli they dont really help.. line up your gunner to fire and if he misses empty all your rockets into the target then sway back and forth while your gunner shoots. Also in the even of a dogfight, be sure to always have slightly more altitude then the other helo so your gunners tv missile can aim better.

Thanks Shadow. Another question for you guys. I see a lot of skilled solo chopper pilots change to TV missile and take out targets. When I try to switch position in the chopper to gunner/TV mode, my chopper starts to go into a spin. Am I doing something wrong?

You're switching too slowly, but don't worry because you'll eventually perform it so fast that your acquaintance with rarer TV bugs will become certainty.

If you've left the F2/Right-click controls mapped vanilla, just press them nearly simultaneously. I press F2 and then right-click almost immediately after. Create a local server and practice doing it on the carrier... no need to be in the air.

It'll become second nature soon enough and you'll be able to move on to different switching positions as part of your defense flying, etc...

Cool. Thanks for the tip mate. Also, thanks to everyone for their comments. I'm fairly decent now in the chopper being able to evade attacks and also kill with TV and missiles.

Now gotta work on the jets!

Jet evasion is mostly terrain usage.

If you're in an open area and a decent jet comes at you in bomb mode, you're toast. Take it from me... I'm not terribly good in planes and I can swat down helis like it's nothing.

To be good enough in the choppers to dominate on a pub server doesn't really take very long. For example, I'd consider myself a pretty good pilot and gunner when it comes to pub servers (my helo kdr says otherwise but that's because I only started getting into atk choppers recently so a lot of my helo deaths are from transport). My brother, on the other hand, sucks as a pilot, and used to suck as a gunner until I made him practice on with me on a LAN server for not even 30 minutes. Now he can get scores like this as a gunner as long as he has a good pilot:

He's lewdis, and as you can see, I was flying

So just remember, you can do it, and it's quite easy. You just need to be patient. If you want to fly with the pros then you're going to have to practice a lot harder than if you just want to be good on a pub server.

Does being a gunner in a chopper or in a jet add to your "Chopper/Jet Hours".

I found out that a joystick helps out a lot. I've never been an air player myself although I can hold my own against some better pilots out there, unless I'm in the F35 and their in a J10.

Personally, I've found that the Immelmann turn can be very effectively used to lose someone on your tail.

The sky is a pretty big place in BF2, its approx 850ft high, so as soon as i know someone is on my tail, i point the nose to the sky and any manover and twisting and turning i feel like, and just keep climbing and twisting about untill you loose them, for me this works 9/10 times, but i have seen people who also point the nose to the sky but then do the same twists and turns every time and it becomes very easy to know what they are going to do, so always make it random after pointing to the sky.

Also you could add a ''look back button'' and use it regular to check nobody's on your tail, just to give you a bit more of a edge.

My middle mouse button is the "look back" button. I use V for fly-by

I also have a '' fly-by button'' and use it EVERYTIME i drop bombs to check were they are landing.
