Despite people often saying "I didn't do anything!", they would have their consoles in hot environments, or have it running for days, or have it positioned for poor air-flow, or were moving it around a lot/shaking it. I'd guess that this was especially the case in households with a lot of kids, or with people who just didn't take good care of the equipment.

The result was that more problems occurred, and the overall health of the 360 appeared to be a bigger problem than it actually was. As Lemur said, I've also seen lots of posts by people who have been running their original 360 since the beginning with no problems.
well i would have thought that the reason the problem seemed so big with no-one unaffected was that the only people who spoke about it on the internet had an RROD and the people who had ones that were fine were too busy playing it

I'm surprised this post has gained so much attention. But after some time of owning one, I would say yes it is worth it.

Console and PC are completely different.

I used to be a PC player all day and night. But xbox is definitely fun too. If you have more local friends then xbox is probably the choice - if you are in the farm areas :p then maybe a PC .

To me its all about social gaming!

The only slight advantage the 360 might have is that it is far harder to hack on it compared to the computer versions.

PlayStation does not break under pressure and online is free. That was all the more reasoning I needed.

I think the majority of RROD's on the 360 were from earlier models, and from stupid user tricks. Now that the better chipsets are out, that shouldn't be a big issue anymore.

PSN might be free, but XboxLive is only $5 a month, and has a larger userbase. I haven't used either XBL or PSN, but I've heard users saying XBL offers more overall.

PS3 has the Blu-Ray player, which is a nice bonus if you're into watching HQ/HD movies at home.

AFAIK, Xbox360 generally has more games, and because MS throws a lot of money at publishers, XB games sometimes get DLC content sooner than PSN.

There's pros and cons to both machines. I'll probably get a 360 in the Fall if my budget allows. I miss playing NHL, Madden, and racing games on Console.

I personally prefer the 360's because IMO the PS3 is the Mac of the console world: An expensive Yuppie toy. RROD support is actually better than its cracked up to be, they extended the warranty and its not always to microsoft (our first xbox redringed, but the warranty was with game, not MS). Also, while Xbox fanboys are raving d!cks, PS3 fanboys act as if they are superior to ALL other platforms (no offence Manzi). but thats just my opinion, you may not agree.

The really only reason that I was even considering keeping my Xbox360 was b/c of Mass Effect 2. But now that I know that the game is multi platform I have already sold my Xbox360. Now what am I gonna do now that there is gonna be a Forza 3 lol.

I dont think the PS3 is superior at all, Xbox does have a better community feeling and support but that comes at a price that I am just not willing to pay. I also hold to heart that I would rather pay more for something that works then something that will break often or easily. Xbox has many exclusives but most of which do not interest me at all, there are a few exceptions one which is Alan Wake but that is about it.

Only a few times do Xbox get DLC earlier then PSN but I really don't care for DLC because I am not a supporter of digital distribution and I don't pay for upgrades because for me it does not add enough to the game that I am willing to pay for.

For what I need PSN is very sufficient, I do not have an HD or widescreen TV but I still enjoy the fact that I have the blu-ray capability to look forward to in the future. I also really enjoy the feel of the PlayStation controller the design to me is much more comfortable then the Xbox and Xbox 360 controllers.

Re: Is it worth buying a 360 if you have a gaming computer?

I see where the PS3 has more bells and whistles, but with a 10 year system life set for this gen, the PS3 will most likely fare better toward it's end than it's beginning.

I personally feel the same way about the PS3 as Manzi does about the Xbox. I don't see many of the PS3 exclusives as must haves (w/ exception of LBP, MGS4, and Heavy Rain). My plan is to use my dad's (he only uses it for the bluray player) until a PS3 Slim comes out (and mark my words, it will). I feel that the 360's controller is better for my hands, the massive community, and I thoroughly enjoy DLC. All things an Xbox owner should like.

As for the atrocious RROD issue, it's really embarrassing that Microsoft hasn't fully addressed this before now, but their support is truly superb, and frankly, it's the best they can do. While there is no excuse for this, the new Jasper chip seems to be solving the issue finally. Unfortunately you can only buy the Jasper in the Arcade, but this should change within a few months.

Bottom line is, and if E3 has shown me anything this year it's that, the system you should purchase is based on the games you want. Once The Last Guardian comes out, there will be nothing stopping this Xbox fan from picking up a PS3 and the back catalogue of games I should have owned before now.

If you want to sit on one side of the fence, or another, and talk trash from here to Zanzibar, be my guest. The rest of us will be enjoy Agent AND Alan Wake... :P
