Re: Tips and Tricks you have found with the Voss?

For me, shooting at a laterally sprinting target is hit or miss (*rim shot*). The hard part is finding the leading distance, which, for me at least, varies every second. Targets that are walking I can hit, but if they're sprinting I may as well be trying to shoot a flea off a camel's butt with a wheellock musket at 500 yards.

I remember back in BF2 I had times where I was in a tank and would see an infantry sprinting perpendicular to me, so I'd aim WAY ahead of him and hold the sight in one place and then just let him run through the coaxial gunfire. Almost everytime he was able to sprint right through the stream of gunfire without so much as taking a hit. I also observe this when aiming at speeding FAVs in a tank. If the shell hits dead on it will do no damage, but if it passes far enough in front of the target it will score a hit (but the shell itself does not explode, but appears to pass clean through the target). I don't even bother trying to hit sprinting targets at long range with infantry weapons anymore since all I usually do is waste ammo and give away my position.

What's fun is when you get those FAV crews that like to drive around your tank in circles while the engineer in the back seat drops MMs all around you (which I call 'buggy poop' ). When a crew decides to do this to my tank I hop up to the F2 gun to plink at them and at least scare them off, because there's no way I will be able to hit them with the main cannon. It's amusing how far ahead of them I have to aim on some days; almost a full 90 degrees of arc depending on their distance from me.

Although this does explain a bit why Field owns so much at this game; he's playing real time while everyone else is about a half second behind! :p

I personally depends on the server where I m playing.

Under 50 ping, I aim slightly ahead of him.
Under 100 ping, I aim 2 cm ahead of him.
Over 100 ping, LOL good luck; it's a hit and miss situation; I take my chances with single fire.

As for Tank; I can't even hit a broad side of the Titan; so don't even talk about hitting the little quick FAVs. I have trouble hitting them with gunship [and I m no flying brick] rockets and TV missile. I lead ahead of them yet they somehow come out with 90 armor.

well you need to aim at the back of the enemie if your ping is less then the latency compensation given by in the .con files. if it is the same you need to aim at target and if it is more you need to lead but still not much.

All things being equal, I'd agree, but I had my .con files set at the standard 100 ping, and the servers I play on I ping from 40-60 to, and I still have to aim like I mentioned above, so there's definitely latency on my end far and beyond just ping. I doubt I'm the only person that experiences this, whether it's due to the server or to my ISP or what have you, so even if your ping and .con files have identical numbers it doesn't necessarily mean you'll hit what you shoot at. I know in my case it certainly doesn't. I've compared FRAPS footage to BR files and I can see I'm lagging a fair bit behind the server, despite my decent ping. Makes the game quite frustrating, I assure you.

I aim at the head, I get a headshot, doesn't matter if he's standing still or sprinting. I've never had any problems :|

yes, because i have some magik internet latency that is better than EVERYONE elses that i had with my Dell w. verizon dSL and then again with the computer i built that has charter high speed

Well a lot of factors go into your overall latency. Myself I live at the end of a private road so I'm one of the last people on the 'chain' on my street, so everyone else on my street gets the bandwidth before I do. I'm not sure what other factors there are, but I've seen your videos and you get near instant hitreg, which I do not, and BR confirms this for me.

That isn't to take anything away from your skill, because you are a great player, but you are evidently blessed with good hitreg for one reason or another which only increases your effectiveness. I do have moments where my reg is fine and my shots hit instantly, and at that moment the guns (*cough*SCAR*cough* ) no longer suck, but most of the time I get hit after I've rounded the corner, or headshot-sniped after I've proned behind the wall, or knifed by someone when they're still a good distance away from me, or had my gun fire phantom bullets that do no damage, etc. Unfortunately that's usually the rule and not the exception. :hmm:

It's also amusing when it works the other way around and a shot that I clearly was way off the mark with and I somehow scored a hit on the guy anyway. I've actually had times where I was dragging the mouse and accidentally clicked and hit a guy that wasn't even in my sights (Herzog FTW :p ), but I'd certainly trade reliable aiming and shooting for the occasional oddball hipshot anyday.

you remeber i told you a long time ago that you should go to a hotel on the weekend or something and hook your computer up to the internetz that they gots there just for an experiment.

yeah my setup is probably pretty good but im definitely not alone. I lived in blaine, WA a small town of five thousand people on the canadian border with verizon DSL and then for about 6 months now i've been living in an apartment complex in a city of 80,000 people using Charter. If my setup is the way it is im pretty sure lots of other people enjoy the same gameplay i do. Epwn Treble with his Voss L-AR at close quarters, ImoMol's videos where he is popping headshot after moving headshot with the moretti are a couple that immediately come to my mind. then you also need to consider that frag videos arent perfect ways to gauge someones skill necessarily. its not like your going to show sloppy bad kills in your fun-to-watch video.

i do know exactly what you are talking about with latency though, it is DEFINITELY something more than just ping and latency compensation (which truthfully doesnt make an incredible difference with much.) You can be playing on a computer with good hardware and be on a server and have 40 ping and get killed by some person in a close range shootout that has 80 ping and you will die even though you clearly shot them first and your aiming at the crotch and everything, it makes you angry (well it makes me angry anyways ): and its almost like some people are FAVORED by the server that they are playing on because of thier service provider or thier geographical location. only the programmers and your cable guy know about all this stuff.

btw you see my nU videos?

Who wants in on my new sweepstake! Name the month/year that Field does a Columbine down the local mall. I'm going for August 2014.

I'm glad as **** no one can just go to a shop and buy a ****ing machine gun in this country.

ooo! what is the prize if we get it right?

Hmmm - that's a tricky one. Normally with a sweepstake you put a little in and winner takes all.

Maybe the prize could be the lawsuit winnings we get from DICE for frying someones brain

                            2142 as Real World Scenario

                            Time: March the 20th. 2003
Due to the lack of response required by the Tyran of the Middle-East, the US and their allies decided to invade Iraq based on solid intelligence regarding weapons of Mass Destruction. Their mission was to destroy it.

                            During the course of the entry of the war, the Allied Force seemed to gain victory once again. However, something unforeseen blocked their vision. This is an actual field call between a highly decorated operation leader, and a field combatant;

Combatant: "We are pinned down! The entire division left hours ago, entering the damned banks of sand! Only one soldier returned, badly injured!
The leader: "An entire division?! HOW CAN THIS BE?"
Combatant: They turned their weapon of Mass Destruction onto us, before we could reach it!

                            The leader:
"Oh well, lets pack our equipment and get out of this before it gets serious. We have no standing chance of challenging the Voss L-AR.

(Sorry for bad English, it's my 3rd. language)

LOL, don't even mention Treble. I call him the 'Time Traveller', because he's one of those guys that seems to kill you in the future. I'll see the guy, I'll die, THEN I'll hear the Voss shooting. And yes, it's frustrating as hell (no, it's not just you ) when I see a guy running at me, I crouch, scope, start firing, then die instantly before he even starts to shoot because I'm about 1/2 second behind and even though it looks like he's still running at me he's actually already crouched and shooting. And yeah, I remember your advice about staying at a hotel and I haven't tried that yet, but I'm sure the problem is to do with my ISP and not my hardware. I built this computer from scratch back in April 2006 to be able to play BF2 on high (7800GTX, 4400+, 2 GB RAM...nothing top-end now but it was three years ago), which I was able to do, and I still got those hitreg errors and insta-deaths all the time. I just chalked it up to it being BF, but since I've installed FRAPS and have been able to compare those with the BR files it's made a lot more sense to me and I realise that it's not entirely BF's fault.

Also, the video I was referring to was the one where you just joined a game of Gib and went on a rampage of like 40-4 or some nonsense where you were scoring clean hit after clean hit with the Krylov. I have times where I swear my gun is just making sounds to amuse me but not actually shooting anything, Krylov included. It's one of the reasons, although not the only one, that I prefer vehicle maps to city maps, because they are a lot more forgiving when it comes to things like this. Then again there are the buggies, gunships, and walkers that I get a lot of false positives on with my tank shots so certainly those servers aren't immune to it, but at least with larger targets to aim at the latency isn't as much of a drawback.
