I completely agree with you guys. I only play one FPS game and its BF2142. All other standard FPs where you can only run jump crouch and shoot bores me to death. Only reasons I play bf2142 if the infinite tactics you can develop with good teammates. And this game really takes you in an other dimension where you can do almost anything you want. It can always get boring if you abuse of the game, wait 2-3 days and you come back to the field with the fire up your ***.
Yep the only sad thing is the lack of players out there.Comment

definitely my fav fps of all time. i used to be an unreal tourney & Q3 wh0re and thought those games were all the rave til i found out about squad play in bf2. then it was much revamped for 2142. even w/ all the issues & seeming lack of support, this game kicks (_._)Comment

I just love the fact that they didn't use the futuristic theme just as an excuse to make Über cool weapons. They actually used it to make the game and soldier classes more balanced (i.e. inverse recoil on MGs) and improved the Rock-Paper-Scissors setup that makes the game so interesting to play with all and any of the classes.Comment

My fav FPS of all times has to be Tribes 2. I've done way better in my time on 2142 that I did in T2 "tho I was good there" but T2 is still my fav.
Also whom ever said this is the most rabid/hostile community has never played a tribes game before. Tribes has a learning curve as steep as any I've seen and the skill gaps in that game are massive even between players considered good. This leads to glorious amounts of trash talking, hackusations, and attempts to squeeze every possible advantage from the game. Tribes forums are brutal and new players are killed cooked and eaten by even mediocre players. Subsequently the player base has shrunk since tribes 1 since new players are usually scared off quickly.Comment

Same as most of ya'll said, this game is so addicting. I have had my days of COD 4 and COD World at War, but I think my true love is still with 2142. The COD's seem too simple, with little to no tactical finesse. BF I came to realize its not the killing of the enemy that is important, instead it is the taking and completing of objectives that wins games, just like a real military engagment. The weapons you carry are more for self defense, rather than the massecring of countless players.
Whereas in COD you just angrily spray and slaughter hoards of people for points. It is fun, and I do realize different game types such as cap type games do exist withing COD, but It doesn't feel real. I like to be immersed into a game while playing, feeling that the orders im giving a couple a guys a hundred miles away means something. With that said I stick by battlefield 2142 until EA comes out with the next big one I pray it be soon.Comment

Lemme date myself a bit, but my fav goes back to original Ghost Recon, which was a very good sneak and shoot. It had the best team v team matchplay that I've ever done, with alot of chess style tactics and such. The modding community was rich. Hacking on it was a b%tch, but the community created tools to catch the idiots.
2142 is a close 2nd for me, because of the team play.Comment

I enjoy it if I can get a good squad together, but the sheer idiocy of half the players always puts me off; for example I was just playing a round to Titan, where my team mates decided to have a jolly old sing-song around the reactor core fire just as I'd plastered it with enough RDX to destroy a small city, and having been told to move about 7 times, punished when they got nuked. :wall:Comment

You can never rely on the other players on your team. I was on a Titan match the other day - the dying seconds of the round. Both Titans are shields down and showing the last dregs of energy. I am support with Shotgun and RDX shotgun and I am in the core along with our commander who is also shotgunning but with a sentry drone. An assault troop makes up our little threesome. Time is of the essence. I am firing glowballs at the core as it's the only thing I have that will do appreciable damage to it.
Then the brainwave that is our commander decides to lob a grenade at the core - which bounces back and takes both him and me out. Luckily Assault guy is on the ball and revives us. But whats this - now I have no RDX glowball launcher! - kit switch. I rely on the commander to do what needs to be done.
He doesn't do it. He fires shotgun shells at the core. From the edge of the reactor room mind ya, he doesn't even get up close! WTF. Over chat I type "Use the RDX". Still firing shotgun shells I look at the shield indicators. They're both on a hair.
I take desperate measures. I shotgun the commander in the head. He goes down - "Meddiiiiic". I'm proned waiting for my precious kit to reappear but then Assaulter runs over and revives the idiot. NOOOOO. I blast him again, he revies again. I blast both him and the assault guy and equip my RDX. Just about to fire when.
OUR TITAN IS DESTROYED.
Still my fave :laugh:
..but it is annoying when you have the highest score on the server but your team are still losing HARD.Comment

Sniper is hard... and if you have a half a brain you can do fine with a pyro.I love BF2142; it's one of the best FPS games ever, probably in the top 3 for me.
However, you honestly can't think TF2 is that noobfriendly. Some of the classes are easy to get by with (heavy, sniper, etc) but others take a lot of skill to be decent with (spy and pyro, for example).
Plus, any game is more fun when you're playing with a lot of friends (like an entire TGN team on a TF2 server.)

2142 is my favorite game of all-time, and I started playing games in early '80's with the Atari 2600 and then the NES. For me, my love for 2142 is all in the details.
For example, when driving a tank the heads-up display actually looks like I am looking through some futuristic tank guidance system. All of the other vehicles have their unique heads up displays which really creates a sense of immersion for me. Some other games, like FFOW feel so generic and disconnected when driving vehicles.
I also love the responsiveness of the weapons. When I press the mouse to fire the guns respond right away in 2142, again adding to the immersion factor. ETQW, for example, has a slight but noticeable delay from mouse click to weapon fire which really hurts game play, IMHO.
The sounds in 2142 are also amazing. Each gun has a unique, fully distinguishable sound, unlike many other games where different weapons more or less sound the same.
I also really like the open nature of the maps. Despite some maps having natural choke points the game doesn't artificially flow the action to a given point, unlike some games like FFOW. In 2142 there are limitless strategic options available, which makes for a unique gameplay experience each and every time.
I would love to see a sequel to 2142 based on DICE's new Frostbite engine. Until that happens I'll still be playing 2142!Comment
