Re: If BF2 and COD4 had intercourse...

The number of game software customers goes down every time they raise the bar on graphics. Most of the people i know in gaming cant play anything thats come out in the last 2 years. And all of them have machines barely 2-3 years old! And none are planning to upgrade anytime soon. In their minds they just bought these machines and they still work fine. And these machines were almost not good enough from the day they bought them, because of how fast technology is advancing and how quickly software requirements are rising.

If game makers think the majority of gamers will go out and pay for a new machine every years or so, they are dreaming!!!

You want to sell use software, make it for machines we own already. Or find a way to lower the price of machines. Even that EA's deal of 699$ for a Crysis worthy machine is too high to expect your average gamer to upgrade every year or so. Especially for nothing more than fancy graphics that havent improved the games at all. Infact games seem to be going down hill gameplay wise.

Considering CoD4 is much newer, and a much smaller game, I'd expect its graphics to be light years ahead. But I guess it's because it's a multliplat title so it needs to work on consoles. And not to mention it's using the same game engine from what? CoD2 or so?

One thing I don't understand, though, is why CoD4 has such low resolution textures. Even in the screenshots you provided the ground looks very bad, and to be honest the textures don't look that far off from BF2's.

      Btw, I never said BF2 graphics > CoD4's graphics.
I think you just have unreasonably high standards.

In any case, next gen games will be a lot bigger as a result of higher resolution textures. I'm not worried about BF3 and other FPSs looking like dog ****... then again, we're talking about 1-3 year old games here: they looked fantastic upon release.

Hay guise. When we start running games off of servers, it won't matter what kinda computer you have, just your internet.

I think i heard something about it...

Well I said I had just finished playing Crysis so of course my standards will be very high for a bit. After I start playing some more BF2 and CoD4 I'll forget about Crysis' graphics

I'm sure we can both agree that going from this (although, look at the rock lol):

But if the game is good enough people will play it on lower settings just to be able to play the game. Isn't that what happened with BF2? Most people loved it so much that they needed to sacrifice eye candy to play it at good frame rates when it first came out. It's still going strong since 2005. My guess is that there just haven't been any big games worth doing a full upgrade for. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed Crysis if I wasn't playing it on all high settings, but I know others will disagree. I also wouldn't upgrade to play Crysis. However, if BF3 came out tomorrow and it was everything anyone could have wanted it to be yet had better graphics than crysis then I would do a full upgrade.

But if the game is good enough
Thats my point, the games arent good enough, the requirements keep going up but the games get no better, infact they are getting worse. BF2 was step down from BF42 gameplay wise. No naval combat, bogus physics with no gravity, i could go on but i wont.

They keep raising the requirements for graphics, not added gameplay elements or content. And thats just not a good enough reason for me or anyone i know to upgrade.

I don't have a say on the BF2 versus BF1942 as I've never played BF1942 (A shame, I know.), but I absolutely love BF2 and it's my favourite game. A lot of people seem to like BF2 better, though, as right now BF2 has like 7,000 people playing and BF1942 isn't even topping 1000.

However, I do agree on the rest. As of right now I have absolutely no plans to upgrade my computer. I just recently upgraded my 8600GT to a 9600GT but that was just so that I could get a better frame rate in the games that I play the most (BF2, CoD4 and UT3) so that I could play them to their fullest potential. There's not a single game coming out that interests, so that means I don't need to upgrade! The only game I can think of that would make me upgrade is BF3, but we don't even know for sure if that'll ever be created

Well, maybe I lied. I like playing the BF: heroes beta and I'm looking forward to the official release, but I don't need to upgrade for that. :p

Crysis is only fun because of the graphics. Online sucks, and singleplayer would be 10x better if you can kill koreans with <8 bullets. Crysis is purely an eyecandy game.

                But gameplay>graphics always.

I could care less what bf3 looks like, as long as it has SOME improvement over bf2. What i care about is gameplay.

I agree that cod4 infantry combat in bf2 would make a better game, but vehicle combat and aircraft combat also needs improving.

Thats because of punkbuster... try and stay connected to a bf42 server for more than 10 minutes. I swear its an EA plot!

Nah, I'm totally serious. I heard about some wild scheme where eventually it won't even matter what kind of computer you have, just your internet connection, and all the games will be run on servers instead of on your home computer.

Even if the game is ran off another computer somehow, you will still have to have a computer able to render the graphics and some sort of speed of light internet not to mention the ammount of stress the servers would be under XD Doesn't seem too plausible at all to me..

I enjoyed Crysis a lot, I would have bought it even if it would have used the Quake 3 engine or whatever. But the graphics did add rather a lot to the whole experience.

BF1942 rocks but it isn't as good as the later BF games (2 & 2142), there are rather a lot of imbalances, including prone diving. The sniper rifles aren't accurate at range at all unless you prone for 20 seconds and some other weapons are vastly better than others.

The mods make the game for me.

i think the main arguement here now is, dont dis COD4, i thinks slio is in love with COD4 (Its a joke before your brain explodes and starts spouting off big words)

The thread was, if the two game plays combined there would be a master baby, graphics aside, it would be a good concept, but like people say, it will be BF3

I know it's just a 2D picture, but textures can make a lot of difference, especially on objects and landscapes that you're close to. They're great because they add a lot to the visuals but barely affect performance (for me, anyway)

Hahaha, no one figured we would ever have hard drives bigger than 512 mb, and ever need more RAM than 2 mb.
