I have always thought CoD4 looked awesome.. Except for round things.. round things are kinda hexagonal.. But any better and you will start having the same problems as crysis..Though they could probably improve some of the finer details without losing too much performance..

I was just playing crysis again and in crysis everything looks good, even when you go right up close I really should stop playing crysis. It makes my other games look bad

I do believe Tomeis just owned your a$$ slio with this one, COD4 is indeed CODPoor.

I didn't own anyone. Cod4 DOES look good, but not when you've got your face up against the wall. I'd still rather not have BF3 have CoD4's graphics. I'd want it to have better graphics. However, there are other aspects of CoD4 that would be cool in BF3 like the infantry combat

I'm assuming the game won't be out for a long time (another year, maybe?), so I'd be pretty disappointed if it looked the same as CoD4

I want content and features and good physics and netcode, not eye candy.

edit: COD4 is good because of how it plays, not how it looks. Most play with everything on minimum anyway, whether they need to or not.

No, whatever looks bad for me will look bad for you. If I'm playing on the highest settings with a 9600GT and a X2 4000+ 2.1ghz and you're playing on the highest settings on a 4870X2 and an E8400 4.0ghz, the graphics won't magically look better for you because you have a better system. It'll look exactly the same. You'll just be able to display at a higher resolution and get more frame rates.

The only case would be if I take a screenshot of something before a texture pops in and claim it's how it looks all the time. Now I don't think that's the case for the two screenshots I provided but they're not mine, so I'm not 100% sure. However, I am 100% sure that the screenshots were taken at the highest settings. (Only the second two screenshots are mine) but I do know for sure there are some really bad looking things in the game that will look bad for everyone, regardless of what kind of computer they have.

I fired up my COD4 and I swear, you kids like to complain about everything. I'm going to make a side by side comparison of COD4 and BF2, just so you can see how f*cking insignificant your grievances are.

yeah.. I agree with Mr Big Head on this one.. CoD4 shouldn't even be compared to BF2.. But If BF bring out a number 3 I'm sure it will have sweet graphics..

I wasn't comparing it to BF2's graphics. The OP said "COD's graphics and BF2's wide variety of arsenals" would make a perfect new BF game, or "BF3". I don't think CoD4's graphics are good enough for the next "real" BF game. I want something new that looks good all the time, not something that looks good in some places, and bad in others.

I want a game that would actually make me have to upgrade from my current hardware. So far I haven't had to, and my hardware isn't even close to top of the line. I'm hoping BF3 will be that game. BF2's scale + certain things from CoD4 (not the graphics, but the infantry gameplay) + Crysis' graphics or better. Crysis is already almost a year old and BF3 is not out. I'm just going to make a guess that if there is a BF3 it will be released either next summer or around this time next year. CoD4's graphics on a game like that would be very disappointing. I'd expect, at the least, Crysis-level graphics. Even if BF3 was released tomorrow, I'd still be disappointed if it had CoD4 graphics.

I didn't play BF2 at release, but when it first came out in 2005, how many people could play it maxed out with 60+FPS? Was it just the people with high-end computers?

Crysis graphics arn't even playable on the best machines.. let alone on a 64 man server with huge maps.. I do see what you're saying but I think if BF3 came out with similar graphics to CoD4 and GOOD gameplay I would be happy.

There's no doubt I'd play it, but I would always have the feeling that the game could have looked better if they tried. Especially since Crysis is almost a year old and is probably bigger than any BF2 map. And if a game, when first released, can barely be played on most computers then the game will look good for years to come. I think BF2 still looks pretty good for the kind of game it is, and it's 3 years old. Just like how Crysis will still look good for a few years. I'd rather have to lower some settings with BF3 than to be able to max it out right out of the box with my computer.

And Crysis can be played at playable frame rates, but you still need a ridiculous computer if you want to play at high res.

The difference is big, but it should be much bigger. BF2 is from 2005 and CoD4 is from 2007. BF2 is a huge game. CoD4 is not. Even F.E.A.R. from 2005 looks better than BF2. Considering CoD4 is much newer, and a much smaller game, I'd expect its graphics to be light years ahead. But I guess it's because it's a multliplat title so it needs to work on consoles. And not to mention it's using the same game engine from what? CoD2 or so?

One thing I don't understand, though, is why CoD4 has such low resolution textures. Even in the screenshots you provided the ground looks very bad, and to be honest the textures don't look that far off from BF2's.

Btw, I never said BF2 graphics > CoD4's graphics.
