I'm still enjoying BF2 so no rush. I'd probably enjoy bad company but everytime I play I come to the realization that FPS games weren't ment to be played with a stupid controller. It will take a lot to top bf2 because 2142 sure didn't do it. Granted I played and was addicted to 2142 for the better part of a year but coming back to bf2 it feels more like home as far as a decent fps is concerned. We can only hope the delay on "bf3" is based on the fact that they are researching what the hardcare player base really wants out of a good fps game. I hope it doesn't turn into some twich based game with small maps. If that happens then I'll gladly be stuck with bf2 for another year or so. I'm getting bored with the maps but heck with it, the gameplay keeps me content.

I've played BF2 for like 800hrs in these 3 years. I wouldn't mid to play some more hrs until BF3 comes out.
There's still alot for me to achieve in BF2.
That's the good part of not being a pro gamer - after 3 years I can still learn stuff, hahaha

BF2 is nearly 4 years old. I've played it to death and I can't stand it any more.

We need a new game with a new engine, maps, weapons, and players. Something fresh. Whinge about the patch all you want, but it's only going to add about a month to the game's life span.

I can't see the patch changing anything drastic either. Games have a life span. Eventually it comes along and we all move on. BF2 isn't exempt from this.

Except for the fact that people are still playing Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Counterstrike 1.6, and Diablo 2. All of those games are about 10 years old. Hell, Diablo 2 just had patch 1.12 come out not too long ago, removing the need for a disc in the drive while playing.
This game still has a very large and active following. A patch at this point that increased functionality and content would go a long way towards building on a player base and fostering good will for the next game in the series.

I'm suspecting this will be a bit like the 1.50 patch for 2142, it didn't attract a lot of new players but it kept a lot of the old players happy so that they can enjoy the game for a while longer :)

for u maybe......Myself and friends still love playing bf2. Shiiiit I play a 24/7 mashtuur server almost every nite and never get tired of it cuz the battles on that server are like the scenes from hamburger hill. **** is insane. It is what u make it. REdundant or not the fun factor is still there.

Yeah, I see your point. I just don't think BF2 has that kind of longevity in it. It's a much more complex game. The games you mentioned above, for the most part, are simply round based pray-and-spray games. They don't really need new releases because there's not much you can add to them or change.

I still find BF2 fun, but there's so much more potential for a BF style game these days given the improvements that have been made in the gaming industry since BF2 came out. It'd just be nice to see a new Battlefield released where they can take advantage of newer technology on a new engine instead of staying stuck in the past and patching BF2 over and over. Seriously, what can a patch do that will make BF2 that much better?

download a mod or a custom map. there are some great mods out there with all kinds of new maps and toys to tinker with. POE2 would be my first choice, PR is great too as is AIX and forgotten hope 2. you'll find that once you get away from the repetitive action of ranked servers you'll start to really have fun.

Yeah I've been playing Project Reality a bit lately. Again though, it's still the same engine. Along with that the player base for mods (given the ranking system's inability to work with them) is pretty low. I live outside the US so it's hard to find severs for MODs.

There is nothing patching and MODs can do to significantly change the game and allow it to use modern graphics, physics, and other gameplay systems. It's been 4 years, I don't see why people are so opposed to DICE bringing out a new game instead of nitpicking at a game that's 4 years old.

As amazing as BF2 is/was/will be forever, the only thing that bothered me about it compared to Battlefield 1942 were the maps, they didn't feel that great. Sure 1942 maps were based on real life WW2 theatres, but the maps had a lot of flow and they were memorable.

The only real improvement I'd like for BF3 would be a better selection and deeper quality of maps/locals. For the most part, the only maps that even get any play are Kark, Mastuur, Jalalabad and sometimes Sharqi (mostly city maps).

In any event, I don't expect to see BF3 until at least 2010, Summer 2010 wouldn't be too bad.
