Wow those are actually really good ideas. Obviously there'd need to be some tweaking to prevent noobs from being the commander. And maybe some limitation on the maps/vehicles because it would be a pretty quick game to just fly the jet over the base and drop bombs.

I remember playing the VIP map in America's Army where one team would have to escort the VIP, while the other team had to try to kill him. It was always my favourite map.

How about a "Destroy the enemy CP" mode.
Only, the enemy CPs aren't on your map, and all the CPs are randomized each round, so they're never in the same place twice. Of course to make it work, the UAV and SatScan would have to be removed.

I'd like to see a mode similar to UT2004's Onslaught. Only linked CPs can be capped, so there is always a front line to the battle. With multiple lines of CPs, you can have battles on two or three fronts. That leaves things open to strategy: fight on more than one front and spread your forces, or concentrate on breaking through one line.
I think it would be a nice game type with the combined arms of BF.

I'd like to see a mode similar to UT2004's Onslaught. Only linked CPs can be capped, so there is always a front line to the battle. With multiple lines of CPs, you can have battles on two or three fronts. That leaves things open to strategy: fight on more than one front and spread your forces, or concentrate on breaking through one line.
I think it would be a nice game type with the combined arms of BF.

An interesting idea, but considering how much easier it is to defend than attack there would have to be some provisions for the attacking team to make it easier. Take Karkand, for example, which some people always complain when the USMC takes a back base. You know the cluster**** at the Hotel? Imagine if you had to go through that to try to win the map. When I play maps like that I generally avoid the front lines at all costs due to claymores and nadespam. At least when the battle is spread out it isn't just a giant cluster of red dots, blue dots, hand grenades, and chaos. Hard to be tactical when it's 32 v 32 in a 50m sq. area. :dead:

Out of curiosity, how would this work? Would you be able to KO the commander somehow, or would he be able to fight back? Maybe instead of having to drag him all the way back to your base, which would essentially just be capture the flag where the 'flag' could shoot you, you just have to knife him, which would count as a 'capture' (guns and explosives wouldn't count for capture). Otherwise, I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to be commander if it meant you either couldn't fight back, or once you're subdued you'd have to wait for however long it takes them to bring you back to their base while you can't do anything. And what if nobody applied for the commander position?

I wouldn't mind seeing capture the flag mode, or assault mode like UT has (which is similar to how Titan mode worked in BF2142, but nothing nearly as clustered and spammy). But hell, at this point, I'd just be happy with any official news regarding BF3, like will it even exist? :p

Onslaught and Assault are two TOTALLY different game types. Assault is the objective-based mode. In Onslaught you can take a different route and potentially backdoor the other team by taking secondary nodes and working your way around. But both teams start with only their "uncap," the core. All of the other nodes are neutral. So it's more like a Daqing or Dalian. That's not to say that there aren't times where both teams are massed in one area and pounding each other. But since there is usually another node to hit the teams rarely stick around to slug it out like that.
I just think it would eliminate a lot of the uncap spawn raping. In Onslaught there is little reason to just sit and rape the enemy core until your team has nodes linked all the way to it. Some people do rape a little, to keep the enemy trapped in their main while their team caps the nodes, but it isn't the same as the constant barrage we see in conquest on BF2.

That will take out the sandbox feel of BF2 and make it a totally boring linear game, It was done in Fuel Of War and it failed.

They have purchased battlefield 3-9.com so yeah they will make it but I doubt it'll be out before 3/4 through 2009.

Am sure BF3 will come out sooner or later, like in a few years time, but i don't think it will be the same BF3 that everybody here is thinking about.

The information we were given about a year ago has nothing to do with BF3/EA/DICE, so that's why i think that the BF3 we will some day get will not be anything like the BF3 we have heard about.

Its very fair to say that EA will make another BF game, hence BF3 or what ever they will call it, BF-duty calls or something.
