Re: Where is the patch?
According to DICE and EA on their forums and other forums, we should have it by the end of Aug, early Sept.

Re: Where is the patch?
CoD4 on PC used the same engine as the console versions... and see how well that went

Re: Where is the patch?
I see your point, but Bad Company was developed using PC's of course, so I assume that they will tweak the engine and the tools they have.
I was very impressed with what they achieved on a console with the Frostbite engine. The detail was high, with no pop-in that I noticed, and the sense of distance was very good. Compared to the console version of Frontlines Fuel of War, the draw distance was very poor, with a lot of fog used.Leave a comment:

I understand how the 'generation' engines work, but i would not be so sure they would use an engine designed for consoles mainly.Leave a comment:

Re: Where is the patch?
Clearly it will be Frostbite as they've spent time and money developing it for their needs. It will probably be an updated version of Frostbite, updated from the Bad Company version, similar to how Unreal Engine starts at 2.0, then moves to 2.5 etc as Epic add improvements.Originally posted by Sir. Did EA/Dice actually announce a "BF3" yet? Isn't it all speculation...Leave a comment:

Re: Where is the patch?
They are doing 256 players in MAG. :pOriginally posted by lamphalo232I hope BF3 has massive maps with support for 150-players. *drools*
BF3 will use the Frostbite engine.

Ehm, no, it doesn't.
Hardware and Internet connections can cope with 150 players with no issues, and the developers of netcode and system can manage it as well, just look at the countless MMOs.
The problem with an FPS with that many players, is mostly game and map design. Maps have to be near perfect to hold 150 players, everything needs to be balanced because of obvious choke points. Game has to be perfectly balanced as well.
To create a map to hold 150 players will take a lot of time, simply because it needs to be tested for hundreds and hundreds of hours (with hundreds of players).
The technology aspect is easy, lag is easy to deal with. It's the game design that is the challenge.Leave a comment:

Wont BF3 use another engine too? I hope so...Originally posted by Alex98ukYour point?
It used a different engine...
I think 150 players is a little too much to hope for though... Maybe a little below the 100 mark would be more realistic? One can always dream :)Leave a comment:

Re: Where is the patch?
I just read this in EA forums:
(Link: http://forums.easports.com/mboards/t...84577&tstart=0)Just about a week or so ago I was asked by our BF2 server provider if we'd like our server to be a beta testing server for the 1.5 patch when it comes out. He informed me that the patch is planned to prevent a lot of the hacks that are currently going around. So if our server provider is asking us to be beta testers for the patch, I'd say it's coming along and very much still in the works.
If that guy is telling the truth, then it is most certainly not a hoax and coming out in the near future. :thumbsup:Leave a comment:
