used to hate it and somewhat agree with pattons point that its harder to get up the score board on soft core but in all seriousness that is not as hard as on other fpss so...

the thing that clinched it though was finding a really good server with a good community that was hardcore. I think everyone will agree its better to play in a 'nice' environment.

QFT! Environment is important. I didnt like HC at first either, but playing with some friends made it more enjoyable. I still play both, but most of them are HC only, so I tend to play HC more.

Speaking of which HC is gaining a bit on SC. I should have voted HC instead of No Preference, but then I would have been lying ;D

heh im from australia and with my ping i cannot discriminate between game genres i pretty much have to go in whichever server has free spots..

As for the poll question: I have no preference. I enjoy both modes, depending on my mood.

Imo, IW made the hardcore without any thought or care, like " **** it, they`ll play whatever we give em".

Once again, HC mode is simply based on "realism" mods that the community made for previous COD's (and other games like MOH). Not everyone liked these mods, of course, but they were popular enough that IW decided to include it as a mode in COD4, so that those folks could start playing right away and not have to wait for someone to mod it in again. That's the scoop right from IW at the Community Day they had last summer. People who didn't like playing realism mods should probably steer clear of HC.

I prefer and only play Softcore when I am pubbing, and when I am matching, of course using PAM. Hardcore is unbalanced in my opinion as well. A pistol can kill just as good as any other weapon; 1 shot. Realistic... I guess so but at the same time not so much. You don't see people sink a bullet from a pistol in the real world from acrossed the map oh so perfectly, but you can do that in Hardcore. Gets a bit unfair, boring, and..don't take this the wrong way...but a lack of talent. I say that because a lot of people in my clan who can "Own Up" in Hardcore can't move from the bottom of the list in Softcore. But people who "Own Up" in Softcore, I see right at the top of the list in Hardcore and then some.

So, thats why I steer clear, a few clansmen of mine have proven to me that Hardcore doesn't teach you anything about teamwork or how to aim.

**Please don't take this like I am bashing HC players. It's a gametype that many are interested in, just as a leader who is in Competitive Play, I don't see HC as a useful gametype**

Softcore.

Imo, IW made the hardcore without any thought or care, like " **** it, they`ll play whatever we give em". Amping the damage and removing the hud ain`t gonna cut it.
When I first heared of HC mode, I imagined it to be like SWAT or R6- with some actual research put into it

I can understand why some like HC better... but it doesn't fit my playing style and nade spam gets much worse on medium populated servers.

Hm, I don't play public an awful lot and when I do, I enjoy small server SnD SC.

Why? I don't like that sort of gameplay where whoever shoots first wins an engagement.

The only reason I can think of to put HC in the game was to create a feel of reality when playing, but CoD4 doesn't seem the right setting for realistic combat, with tiny maps and wall penetration and all that, an SMG can do the role of an LMG to some extent and can be silenced at the same time.

If I'm looking for realistic MW gameplay, I load the good old BF2 Project Reality :)

Not really picky when it comes down to it. I tend to better in hc then sc, but find sc funner.

I always enjoyed realism, but for this game seemed to be built for softcore mindless killing and fast action (Example: Singleplayer.), so softcore earns my vote.
I'm with chris on this one, I enjoy the aspects of realism games. I've played americas army, operation flashpoint, project reality, and I'll be buying Operation Flashpoint 2 when it comes out..
