Wtf..? So you need to be faster, have better situational awereness and tactical thinking in a game mode where you can take 4+ bullets instead of a game mode where you can die from one bullet?

Last time i played SC, i could cross a street whenever i felt for it coz i knew that the enemy wouldnt manage to put 4+ shots into me anyways. In HC you actually get punished for your mistakes, when in SC you can get away with alot of ****.

How does clicking the right mouse key as an extra (to turn your weapon laser accurate) make the iron sights aiming "more skillful"? Explain me this logic, please. Youre not really actually trying to allign the front sight into the rear and then keeping the enemy in the sights. Youre simply turning your weapon lazer accurate. It doesnt take more skill than shooting the weapon without that extra animation.

Now, if you tell me that the extra pixels on the screen, which hinder you, mean it takes more skill, Im telling you that its a matter of a tradeoff. Better accuracy with obstructed view vs clean view and bad accuracy. Wheres the excessive need for skill to shoot iron sighted then?
How does it make you a more skillful player for using a crosshair and firing halfway across the map with the gun on your hip? Bringing up your sight means your shot has to be precise. Not spray and hope for the best from shooting with the gun at your hip. Even with steady aim I doubt that will be possible without the crosshair in HC.

Opinions are one thing, opinions based on false assumptions are another. Right now youre arguing that shooting one bullet to kill a guy takes more skill than shooting three. Thats just about as logical as a raindeer flying a fat man in a red suit around the globe.
Really? So wheres the logic in putting 3 bullets in someones head before they die? IMO it does take more skill, whether its a pistol or RPD, one shot to the head and they should die. Where as, SC your trying to shoot someone in the head with a pistol, 2 hits you manage, then they turn around with there RPD and spray your head and you die. So seriously, you reckon that's logical?

As for the Santa remark, I doubt you'll be getting any presents this year :p

I will play either, its just yeah I see less and less sofcore servers. I seem to die a bit more on hardcore, and some days I just seem to die a bit more on softcore.

I don't want the game to go hardcore only though.

So, the other player wasn't able to get enough shots on you because he can't keep his sights on you; where in hardcore, the other player would only have to shoot you once, possibly twice, to kill you thus not having to keep his sights on you as long as the player would have to in softcore. The other player would probably also spray his weapon in hopes of getting one or two lucky hits on you.

I think the HC lovers are losing...

Perhaps that Santy Clause will give us a nice HC/SC filter that this thread was intended for eh?

Oh and true dat about the point on how playing UT/Quake takes more skill than RB6 or Swat4, Im generally just good at shooters... but UT is friggin' hard, you gotta be a maniac to be good at that stuff.

/some 'spect to UT players. :salute:

Re: Do softcore servers exist anymore?

hardcore and softcore opinions are the same as coke and pepsi opinions.

Arguments can go both ways but when it comes down to it - people find different game modes more fun that others. Some people like hardcore not because it's easier to kill, but that it's easier to be killed which means less people bunny hopping around the map without a care in the world.

I agree there should be a filter so that people aren't surprised when they get in a map to notice that they don't have a crosshair.

To be perfectly honest - when I first got the game I thought my install was corrupt because sometimes I would join a game and my HUD was gone :) I re-installed twice.

In summary - hardcore vs. softcore == coke vs. pepsi.

It's all a matter of opinion.

Me? I like hardcore better but I still like them both.

Precisely. With weapons having the potential to be lazer accurate, youre still going to pay for your mistakes. What softcore does, is open up maneuverability options to keep the game open and moving. People arent afraid to go and flank their enemies, or simply outmaneuver them in one building. If you die from 1 bullet, you will not do things you would do if you died with 4. Think "Matrix". Dodging bullets becomes a whole new, and respectable skillset. When the game is slowed down, so is the thinking. When youre playing a fast game, the mind races a whole lot faster. Thats how it is in RL and in videogames. SC promotes fast thinking, fast choices and maneuvering. HC promotes "lazy" gameplay with limited maneuvering.

Last time i played SC, i could cross a street whenever i felt for it coz i knew that the enemy wouldnt manage to put 4+ shots into me anyways. In HC you actually get punished for your mistakes, when in SC you can get away with alot of ****.
First of all, Im not the only one (I believe Leadcannon has also told you the same thing) who will advise you not to play on a newbie-server. Go have a quick frag in Baghdad Cafe and you wont be crossing streets without getting shot. Not to mention the mere fact that youre proving my point once again-

                    HC- stay put
                    SC- stay mobile

                    APM goes through the roof.

Last time I checked, COD was an arcadeish videogame. If you want to play a sim, I strongly suggest Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, it still has a formidable community, lots of cool gadgets and intelligent players. Not to mention the hardcore realism factor in a tight and close quarters frame. Yuuu-uumm!

Moving on: I argued your own sense of logic, youre arguing videogames logic. Wrong.

IMO it does take more skill, whether its a pistol or RPD, one shot to the head and they should die.
Then your "IMO" is wrong. Attempting to sink 3 shots into a target will always require more skill than sinking 1 shot. Your logic chip must be broken, because youre arguing gravity, youre arguing elementary maths.

Where as, SC your trying to shoot someone in the head with a pistol, 2 hits you manage, then they turn around with there RPD and spray your head and you die. So seriously, you reckon that's logical?
                    Yes.

                    1. You sucked as5 and got raped for it
                    2. Its a videogame, keep the "real world" aspect out of it
                    3. It makes perfect sense

I dont mourn the lack of presents, I mourn the lack of Christmas spirit. Thats the greatest loss in ones life, the loss of mystical, holy even, amazing bulk of emotions on a silent night when theres -20 outside, the table is filled with chrimbo food and the family is together. Ahhh.

If we were to argue which one is "better", then it would be apples vs oranges.

But some people argue which one takes more skill, and now it becomes a viable argument.

Would not not be valid to say that the amount of skill to kill is inversely proportional to the amount of skill to stay alive?

It does NOT take 3 shots to the head in SC to kill a target. Period.
1 Shot w/ an AK + Stopping Power = death.

Doesnt work that way. Videogames inherently are more agressive, simply because you dont really die.

                              Take it this way-

In HC, you stay slow in defensive mode to stay alive, and stay slow in offensive mode for the same reason.
In SC, you once again stay slow in defensive mode to stay alive, but you have much more freedom to stay nimble, fast in offensive mode.

So basically, the skill to stay alive in HC isnt really much different than the skill of staying alive in SC. People tend to think that bunnyhopping is "the skill of survival" in SC. Its just one of the skills. The main goal is the same, to be unseen and have the element of surprise. But since SC is that much more dynamic and faster, the offensive side of the game has to be that much more honed.

Yes. The more likely you are to kill, the more likely you are to stay alive, assuming your constant of proportionality would be their "overall skill."

However, that model does not factor in the skill of other players. A Bayesian model would work well in this situation for factoring in the probability of one player killing another, given your skill constant. But, of course, that's simplifying the problem to a large degree.

                                </maths>
