If by "give more thought" you mean hiding inside a closet for almost the entire game with just your barrel poking out, then I agree with you. I firmly believe if HC players could jump inside the trash cans and pull the lid over while poking one hole through for a scope and one hole for a snorkel to breathe, they would absolutely do it in a heartbeat.

Now whether or not a player thinks the above scenarios are a good thing or bad thing will greatly affect their enjoyment of HC.

I don't understand why a lot of SC players say HC is for campers... Maybe you have only played on "one" server where you have seen some campers? I know for a fact my server doesn't have any campers. You may get the odd 1 or 2 campers but that's life.

With killcam enabled its pointless to camp.

At the end of the day...

      SC - Run 'n' Gun
      HC - More tactical

They both have there own styles of play, so its whatever tickles your fancy.

HC does not promote tactics though! It is just as much run and gun, the only thing that changes is that people die faster! The maps are the same, the objectives are the same, etc.

SC SD is just as tactical as HC SD.... HC TDM is just as run and gun as SC TDM.

but with Silenced weapons in SC u need Stopping Power to kill people, in HC u can use UAV jammer

Youve talked yourself in just now. If HC isnt all about camping, then how can you tell that SC is more "run n gun" and that HC is "more tactical"?

"Tactics" as a phraze has no special meaning in HC. The word youre looking for is "RL tactics", because tactics exist in every game, in every mode. The moves you make to kill your opponent, no matter which verse, can be considered "tactics".

They both have there own styles of play, so its whatever tickles your fancy.
Exactly, but what the reasonable bunch of folks here are getting irritated about, is the elitist behaviour from "HC fans" who try to portray HC as "a mans game" whereas in practice, in factuality, SC requires more technical skill from the player.

Yes, the maps and objectives are the same. But knowing you will be dead with one shot makes it more intense. With SC you can get shot and still run off...

Players do die faster, but if you going to be a rambo, then your going to die fast simple as. When players take their time, they get called a camper... So really its a no win situation. You don't get as much run 'n' gun in HC than SC. With SC for example, you can run in the open, offload a full magazine with your RPD and still run off! Where as HC if you did that, you'd be dead within seconds...

I said HC is "more" tactical... I didn't say SC doesn't require any tactics. With SC most (most not ALL) players run around like a headless chicken, where as HC players prefer to take there time then get called campers......... Campers for me are players that choose to sit in one corner all game. Not taking cover behind a crate and shooting someone.

That's complete rubbish IMO, how does a SC player require more technical skill than a HC player?? With SC you have to "AIM" longer than you do in HC, that's all. HC requires a more precise shot, not 3+ shots to the head. You also get a nice crosshair to help your "AIM". All you need is the steady aim perk, combined with the crosshair and you don't need to bring your sights up. So again, I don't understand how you can say that's more "technical".

I've played OFP + ArmA for a good few years now, so playing SC is a no no for me. If I really wanted to, I can adjust to SC. But I enjoy HC far more.

You didnt get it. "Tactical" is the keyword. What you meant was "RL tactical", because "tactical" in COD4-verse is anything that goes within the set games limits. As such, a leap out of the 2nd floor and bunnyhopping to knife an AK47 wielder in the face can also be called "tactical".

"Tactics"- a study to win a battle, or in simplier terms, methods that win an engagement. If someone is using an age old proven method to kill someone, those methods are "tactics". This is all semantics, but I wouldnt want people to use fancy words to support their case while they dont know what they are talking about.

So, does COD4 HC, in theory, use more "RL tactics" than SC does? Yes it does. Do you see people utilize proper engagement procedures in room clearing, or even perimetre defense, in COD4 HC? No you dont.

I didn't say SC doesn't require any tactics. With SC most (most not ALL) players run around like a headless chicken, where as HC players prefer to take there time then get called campers.........
Theres JUST as much headless chicken running in HC, as there is in SC. What SC does better, is that it forces you to be quick about everything you do. Theres no time to fvck around in the corner. Your mission is to kill the enemy, which means that youre on the offensive most of the time. Thats in TDM. In S&D, SC plays out EXACTLY, to the NOTE, how HC does. Its all about "setnades", all about proper camping spots, all about enemy movement anticipation.

Campers for me are players that choose to sit in one corner all game. Not taking cover behind a crate and shooting someone.
Erm, amusingly, I see people use cover in SC TDM all the time, even when Im playing in a 30+ player server. People prefer to switch positions and be more agressive in SC because they can get away with it. People prefer to stick to their positions and be passive in HC because they cant do anything otherwise.

That's complete rubbish IMO, how does a SC player require more technical skill than a HC player??
                      1. A SC player is REQUIRED to have a better aim.
                      2. A SC player is REQUIRED to be faster in motion, in situational awareness and tactical thinking. (If there was an "APM" counter for COD4, youd see that the APM for a SC player is significantly higher than the APM for a HC player).
                      3. A SC player is free to constantly maneuver and outmaneuver his opponents, the game "opens up" a lot more. A battle between two moving targets is a lot more technical and demanding than a battle between two dug up targets.

If you compare a Quake player to, say ArmA player, a Quake player has a much, much, much better hand-eye coordination, thats because one shot to kill is not enough, they have to shoot their targets, and keep the crosshairs on the target for a prolongued time. Something a slower player just simply cannot do. This is transferred to SC/HC very well, where HC is a lot slower game.

With SC you have to "AIM" longer than you do in HC, that's all.
Thats just one of the requirements, and its a HUGE requirement on its own. People train dozens, if not hundreds of hours to perfect this skill.

HC requires a more precise shot, not 3+ shots to the head.
HC doesnt require a "more" precise shot. It actually requires a LESS precise shot. Think about it for a moment. You can literally spam at a target in HC and if one shot hits, youre done. In SC, you need to hit anywhere between 2-5 shots, usually at least 3-5, independant of the range, in order to kill the target, all while the target is mobile. So if in HC, you need to be accurate for a splitsecond, in SC, that requirement becomes painfully long.

You also get a nice crosshair to help your "AIM".
I dont use my crosshairs to aim. Center of the screen is burned into your retinas. Take away the crosshairs and the skilled bunch will never notice.

All you need is the steady aim perk, combined with the crosshair and you don't need to bring your sights up. So again, I don't understand how you can say that's more "technical".
If youre physically impairing yourself, youre not being "more technical". If that was the case, I would ask you to cut your legs off and insult track and field sportsmen for their lack of manhood. Amusingly, if you aim through the iron sights, the weapon is lazer accurate, requiring less skill to hit people, whereas using open sights, you trade accuracy for RCOF. So I dont actually get why did you bring this argument in? Especially when HC players aim through the "imaginary" crosshairs just as much. I doubt that you pull up the iron sights in a nose-to-nose fight, do you?

I've played OFP + ArmA for a good few years now, so playing SC is a no no for me. If I really wanted to, I can adjust to SC. But I enjoy HC far more.
If you enjoy it, fine. If you want to be an elitist about your choice of games, thats open for discussion.

[EDIT]: UT/Quake vs SWAT4/R6RSV, which is harder to master and get past 2:1 KDR? The answer is very simple...

Re: Do softcore servers exist anymore?

Seriously I'm too tried to quote everything again... lol

Anyway, its a matter of opinions. You enjoy SC, I enjoy HC.

As for the "more tactical" bit. I don't know where you get your facts from, but it does NOT mean RL tactics whatsoever. With ArmA for example, you can use RL tactics whereas CoD4 you can't. Playing on a 32 man server with killcam enabled requires more of a brain than playing SC. But like I said, this is my opinion, some will disagree others wont.

As for sights, I do fire from the hip but only when someone is inches in front of me. But I always use my sights. So what if its more precise? Being quick enough to bring up your sights and take down the enemies before they down you takes more skill than firing from the hip through your crosshair with steady aim.

HC doesnt require a "more" precise shot. It actually requires a LESS precise shot. Think about it for a moment. That's your opinion, mine is the complete opposite as I said in my first post. Whenever I shoot someone, I expect them to die, simple as. Especially when I shoot them in the head! I don't want to sit there and waste half a mag because this guy is bunnyhopping all over the place. Whether I spray them in the chest or head, they go down!

This discussion will never end lol... Its a matter of opinions and both parties feel they are right, which they are as both modes require different players.

                            You still didnt understand.

How does clicking the right mouse key as an extra (to turn your weapon laser accurate) make the iron sights aiming "more skillful"? Explain me this logic, please. Youre not really actually trying to allign the front sight into the rear and then keeping the enemy in the sights. Youre simply turning your weapon lazer accurate. It doesnt take more skill than shooting the weapon without that extra animation.

Now, if you tell me that the extra pixels on the screen, which hinder you, mean it takes more skill, Im telling you that its a matter of a tradeoff. Better accuracy with obstructed view vs clean view and bad accuracy. Wheres the excessive need for skill to shoot iron sighted then?

Opinions are one thing, opinions based on false assumptions are another. Right now youre arguing that shooting one bullet to kill a guy takes more skill than shooting three. Thats just about as logical as a raindeer flying a fat man in a red suit around the globe.

I see people saying thing like head shots to the head and someone did not die. You did not get a head shot. The hit decetion in this game is buggy at best. I have never had 3 shots to the head and have them live.
