Don't any of you guys remember what it was like when you first bought this game? I do! At the time, I was big into playing Halo PC, but was getting bored of it. I wanted a team based game, a game that had more of a goal to it than just to be the top player for that one game.
Then came Battlefield2. OMG, this game was AMAZING! It was like a FPS version of Grand Theft Auto, to me. Total freedom to pretty much do whatever you want during a game. Not scripted at all, you could spend all day sitting on a large machine gun, if you so wished.
But the best, absolute best part about the game, in my opinion, was the stats and awards system. The fact that you get awarded for playing and achieving certain levels just made the game great. My coworker and I were totally addicted to the game for the first year. That's what made this game great, and addictive.
So, I can totally understand why people cared about stats.
NOW? Well, the stats system is totally f|_|cked up. It is so out of whack, its not even worth looking now. The leaderboards are a joke. And BF2 is full of hackers. I can think of at least 10 sites right now where I can buy fully working undetected cheats for BF2. Every game I play, I see at least 1 hacker, but usually 3-4, especially in IO servers. It is probably the most hacked game right now. I know some of you may say Enemy Territory (not QW) is, but BF2 has way more players.
So, to that extent, I can also see why some people no longer care about stats.
I, myself, have had no interest in playing any other FPS games online. They all get cheaters. Punkbuster is a joke and cannot stop them. BF2, BF2142, COD4, FFOW, ETQW, UT3. All of them, have cheats available. Its a shame.

Well you have received your 200.000 points in BF2 now u guys can start from the beginning, I don't think many people care about how many stars you have in front of your name. Start over no big deal, if all you cared about is your rank, maybe this will help you realize, that nobody really cares about your rank. This reminds me of WoW kids that think its the end of the world when there account gets banned.

- What if you want to be a commander?
- What if you want to be a squad leader? I'm normally always a squad leader, and the times I've had the squad bug (showing me as a Private), it can be very hard to get people to join (and stay in) your squad.
- If you're dominating a server as a Private, there's a far higher risk that an admin will kick you for cheating, than if you've got a more decent rank.
- If you're first to a jet, there's a higher risk to get TK'ed if you're a Private, as the other players might think you're a complete noob.
I used to care about and cherish my points/awards/stats, but it doesn't mean much to me anymore. However, as described in the above scenarios, that icon does command a certain amount of respect...Comment

event3k... i dont know what game you have been playing but its quite obvious that people care about their rank and that others care about it too... this of course usually when all the high ranks are on one side and the other side complains the teams are stackedComment
