Yes they did, they PID hacked them.

I'm pretty sure they were spoofed, not hacked.

To hack is to gain information or data by bypassing security measures aimed to prevent unauthorised access.

Hacked spoofed, whatever you want to call it. The group in question had a modded ranked server running for a few hours on Tuesday morning when they were PID spoofing/hacking.

why do people care about stats? ill tell you why i care, it gives me goals to work towards (badges etc.) thereby keeping the game more interesting over the longhaul... whats the big deal if people care about stats anyways?

I agree aswell. why do you want to play unranked games in the first place? rankings give you something to play for. if i wanted to mindlessly kill for no purpose i would just play counterstrike.

i agree... i care about stats mainly because it shows how im improving... it does make the game more of a game rather than just another kill fest.. but i guess different people get different things out of the game and thats why its still soo popular :)

why not removed 16mil points from the affected people?

They should be able to. They should be able to see that data, it is the same where they have reviewed players to see if their stats were in, our out of norms. The stats can produce a graph that would point to the day the points were added, on what map/server it was added. The same way that would find if someone gained all their knife kills on one server/one day, or over a period of time.

To simply just reset everyone without some investigation is nothing but lazy.

^ true and if they just reset everyone i would guarentee atleast 30-40% of the comunity would probably stop playing and move onto somthing else.. because ALOT of people just play to work towards higher stats.

This is some of EA's responses so far.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about your incident. Many users logged into Battlefield 2 recently to discover that their account was given an extreme best round score(s). We are currently under investigation of the issue and are trying to find the best course of action.
We are working closely with the development team to come a conclusion on the best way to fix this issue for all the users that were affected by this issue. We do not have a time frame as to when these stats will be adjusted if at all but please continue to review the Official Battlefield 2 Website. We are trying to come to a conclusion that will be the best benefit of the Battlefield online community and its members.
Unfortunately our support teams cannot remove or alter global scores, kill streaks, unlocks, hours played, ribbons, badges, etc, nor can we retro-actively award you any stats or ribbons you may have been awarded.

Can't alter global scores or medals. I remember recently where they added 2000 points and gold medals to players that had played during a certain time frame. This was their corrections because of a stat outage, remember? So to say they cannot restore stats is totally incorrect. Or to the point it is that they don't care anymore. If that is to be the final action then I won't care about any EA game to come, including BF3.

This issue really isn't about the Stats being reset so much as it is about support for a community they created!

The only reason I did not purchase 2142 was because I saw how they dropped support for BF2 just before the release of 2142....and it had many of the same bugs.

As for contacting EA, our members did. Their response was to figure out how to support the community, which appears to be by resetting the stats of the top players.

Complaining about who is worried about their stats is pointless...BF4 and all their future releases should not be purchased until EA can give support to what they have already sold. If you guys wish to support "get rich quick" schemes by purchasing their future games, then it is you who are the fools!

Latest news from EA, again this is from another member. And he did not visit one of the compromised servers indicated. He has only played on our official ranked servers. His name was spoofed/smurfed what ever you want to call it, on one of the compromised servers by someone else. In short, if you have been affected, get back to 100 points and contact EACS.

In our attempt to maintain the integrity of the stats and leader board for Battlefield 2, we have had to reset the stats on your soldier. Although we are working to prevent these servers from affecting future soldier stats, we were unable to remove the ‘bad’ stats without clearing your stats entirely.

We understand that many soldiers were not aware that they were on a compromised server, so we want to work with you to restore some of your stats. If you are interested in restoring as much of your original stats as possible, please read and follow the steps below.

What we will do for you:
We can restore your Rank, Global Score, Commander Score, Team Score, and Combat score to what you had earned prior to March 22, 2008. All other statistics cannot be restored; however, you can re-select your unlocks to match the rank that is restored to your soldier.

What you must do to qualify:
Before we can restore your stats, you must first gain a Global Score of at least 100 by playing on ranked servers.

How to initiate the stat restore:
Once you have earned a Global Score of at least 100, please reply back to this email and let us know “you have gained at least 100 Global Score.” Include your soldier name and/or PID so that we can verify the information and restore your statistics. The only way to fix the issue would be to fix the name spoofing issue, and the problem lies in BF2's coding. Seeing as the game is getting old now, it's not worth them investing time and money in fixing a problem that only effects a small number of players.

It is just something we will have to put up with.

you would think they could just setup a database filter to flag ranked servers that are trying to enter unusually high scores and then just dump that data and flag the servers / accounts /pids for investigation. doesn't sound very hard to me.

whether or not you like stats or not there part of the game and the way it plays.

no rank = commander mayhem or no commander lol.

unlocks are some players favorite..mine included l96a1 i use it all the time.

as for ea saying they cant modify stats is a joke.

a freind of mine ran a bot server that use bf2statistics on a msql database thing,back up stats regular(due to database errors)

+ by using php my admin could alter stats and rank to any number he wanted.

note the stats were saved on his webserver as they were alternate ranking not ea official.

so it can be done.

true but a simple look at a players stat history on say bf2 tracker would give the scores for the day in question,by removing them they should be back to normal.

or give them 4 stars and 200k and send them on there way.

a complete 0 score is far to lazy approach in my opinion(i.e a waste of time and money)

Since about 50% of the post are saying whether or not they care about stats I'd like to add on to that. You can give a rough estimate and say that over 90% of the people that bought the game cared about stats that is what made the game "fun" in a sense. The leader boards now are just funny since you have these people that played days at a time only for the stats they would get after like the #1 person who had like 800,000 points is probly supper pissed at EA since he isn't #1 anymore.
