    Ok,
First of all I would like to apologize,
I do not know who illuzion is and from your feedback I take it you do not like him, I have NEVER seen him in game before and I did not know that people would be angered at me praising him.
I do not think BF2 is a war sim, I believe it is more of a run and gun game (not as much as Counter-Strike).
If you guys want realism go buy Operation: Flashpoint, NOT ArmA.
Due to all the rules I am glad that many of you like agree with me about not needing senseless rules, only the useful ones. Hopefully some big shot hosters will read this and chop down their rules to just a few neccesary ones.

Not a clan but a large group of regulars and admins.

Pretty much no rules other than those that should be obvious (no cheating, deliberate TK or forcing TK, etc.).

I haven't actually been there much lately but when I play vanilla BF2 it's the only server I use.

I thought maybe it was just a pissed off little kid, so I joined another server and started blowing up commander assets, I then promptly got kicked saying, NO VEHICLES IN UCB, I was driving around in a jeep. After I logged back on to the server, the admin gave me a long speech and wrote out the rules to follow, there were 22 rules in total. Due to this I might not be able to play BF2 anymore as the rules make me angry, I mean cmon, This is War, There are no Rules!

Does anybody else feel that servers could ease up on rules a little bit?

(By the way, I do not baserape or do any of that junk)

were you doing what a commander is supposed to do while you were in those vehicles?

I never had anything against this rule, if ur not doing ur job as a commander then its considered as stats padding and its annoying coz you are preventing other people from doing it

you are being selfish and the admin has all the right to be mad at you

commanders need their commander screen open 24\7

not going around capping flags, if ur team is failing you don't go around and try to fix it, just give up commanding

and for the record, I never lasted 2 mins in digital anarchy server

              Predranjanjic,
If you read my later posts I explained that there was only me capping flags. I was rarely in combat, just capping. What I am also explaining is that the admin gave me no warning, just a ban. If I had gotten a warning, I would have promptly followed his orders. Please don't call me selfish, I would have followed the admins requests had he given me a fair warning.

well at this point everyone should know what a commander is supposed to do

you fix the problems from your commander screen, not by fighting in a vehicle or cappin flags

                picture this

some guy applies for a commander, gets in a tank and goes to hide in a corner of the map while doing nothing just to get his armor time, this is the picture I see every time I come across a bad commander

you cant fight and command at the same time, ur ruining ur chances of wining, ur pissing people of, and causing unnecessary arguments

                  I do agree,
If there was a commander on my team which there was not....
If a teamate had tried to mutiny me...
If my team was doing anything....
If I was sitting in a corner...
Too bad none of these things were happening, and my point of it all is the admin could have confronted me, which he did not, but if he had, I would have easily
followed the admins requests had he given me a fair warning

well yea, its annoying when they don't give u a warning, but usually when my team doesn't care I just resign

Then shouldn't this post be a complaint about stupid admins that jump the gun rather than gaining more info about the situation. Sorry guys but I am looking at TV2 servers here.

Now that's a great example of a server that actually has very few rules yet because the admins don't ever ask the circumstances surrounding why something has occurred you can be banned without ever being told why.

End of the day I play regular on a server that has these excessive stupid rules. Somewhere in the 20s. Yet I find that these rules are enforced to a point where you only get punted if you constantly abuse them. Not like the OP is describing where he did something once and was instantly banned, this works very well and the server is great fun.

Thing is though surely if the folk have paid for the server they can enforce whatever rules they want in whatever way they feel like. If folk don't like it they will show that by not playing there. There is plenty of servers out there so if you don't like the rules or how they are enforced then go find somewhere else. The admins happy because he doesn't have to bring in the ban hammer and you're happy because you're playing on a server the way you want too.

I agree with the majority, it is ment to simulate war like real life exept all the blood etc When i started playing i was told no commander in vehicles, why? because they are meant to sit back and command the others. once i read thi thread it makes sense though there are actually rules of real war.

When you're finished with a 'simulator' you walk away with some knowledge of how the thing that it is simulating works in the real world. I.e MS FS2004 gives a great in sight in to how aircraft work. Play BF2 and you'll learn nothing about real warfare, in fact if you broke BF2 down in to all the different things you can do, foot soldier, medic, sniper, pilot, driver I doubt you would be able to walk away with any useful knowledge about any of those things.

it still simulates war.. the word simulate can be used loosley as its meaning is to mimic.. which is exactly what BF2 is doing.. "mimicking" war... whether its an accurate simulation or not doesnt take the light away from the fact its still a simulator.. look at the cabela series.. meant to be a hunting simulator.. 95% of it is bs!.. but its still a simulator none the less..

Yeah... I try to play servers that don't have stupid rules. People are idiots. Only rule I can see is not spawn raping carriers, but even then the team deserves it if they can't avoid that. I got banned from a moongamer server because I stole the enemy APC one game and then the next game jumped in one of our APCs, and suddenly I was kicked. Then I rejoined and was banned for "excessive teamkilling." So yeah, join a server with retarded rules and you'll probably end up with retard admins too.

A simulation is an imitation of some real thing, state of affairs, or process. The act of simulating something generally entails representing certain key characteristics or behaviours of a selected physical or abstract system.
Verdict, BF2 isnt even close to being a simulation.

I think we need to find a better word to describe its position.
