I've only come across a few servers that have too many rules, which in my opinion is anything besides the obvious (hacking, tking etc) because i only play on the same few servers for my fav maps (karkand, oman, tampa, jalalabad). Plus the people buy the servers so it is entitled to them, so they can put as many rules as they want that dont break the rules of like the whole thing (statpadding etc).

It all depends on the servers you play on, i could name a few that have good admins and good pings and good players

Lets keep this on topic please guys,

I have come back to BF2 after a few years out from playing and have found that the rules that were there have become a little more lenient and are not as strict or as many. I remember it used to be dont attack UCB period. Now most of the servers i play on allow you in with kit weapons only.

i guess people have finally figured out that there is always going to be rule breakers.. and rather having to kick out 90% of their server population they would rather just put up with it..

i would have to honestly say 95% of the servers i play on.. people base rape and break other rules constantly..

yea i agree, im glad to see the rules finally relaxing as i remember getting kicked if i went within 100m of the UCB bases before. I actually had a great time on Oman trying to stop them getting their attack chopper off the ground and although a few complained i did state the rules said i was allowed their with kit weapons.

for me personally i preffer a server with NO rules.. except for stat padding and hacking.. like i said before.. getting base raped adds another dimension to the game for me :) i like the turmoil of it

The issue I have is not so much with endless rules but rather the way some people use the rules as an excuse to disengage their brain at the first opportunity just to talk complete cr*p. No Kamikaze rules are a good one as any form of collision is seen as a kamikaze rather than as just an accident (see my separate post in which I rant about such a thing.) Another good one is no attacking uncaps, some folk use that as an excuse to moan if you so much as fly over and uncap.

On the flip side you have the extreme team the ones that enfore rules with no explanation,

he entered the uncaps, kick and ban
                        he TK'd, kick and ban
he spawn camped, kick and ban
he looked at my beer in the wrong way, kick and ban
he shot someone in the other team in a manner that wasn't self defence, kick and ban

I don't mind rules about not raping uncaps. What bothers me is abusive admins that kick people for breaking rules while breaking them themselves.
Or when ******* use rules as an unfair advantage. Helicopter crews, always admins, hover in the uncap and launch TVGMs at others and kick whoever kills them because they are in the uncap. Mobile AA parked at the edge of the uncap taking potshots at anything in range and kicking whoever kills them. Snipers who shoot at a nearby flag from the uncap and kick whoever retaliates.
The favorites list feature sucks, but it would be really nice to have a hosts.deny list that you can just refuse to ping or have show up in the browser. That way you could build a list of lame servers and pare your server list to servers you actually want to play in.

see, why is stat padding grouped with hacking? they're nothing of the like.
so what if a group of guys join a private server and get hundreds of revive points. all they gain from it is a quick way of raking up, but a really boring and **** way.
if thats how they want to play the game let them, im happy with my take on it, which is to play for relaxation and enjoyment purposes. occasionally i may set myself a goal of getting a badge for that extra kick. but i really dont care how quick some guy on the other side of the world can get to 1 star.

lol i never grouped hacking and stat padding.. i said "for me personally i preffer a server with NO rules.. except for stat padding and hacking.. " thats not grouping the two.. just stating that i like a server without rules except for stat padding and hacking..

Hacking is when u alter program code
stat padding is when u suck soo badly at the game u have to gain points the brainless way :)

"Not your average arcade or tactical FPS, BF2 is more likely a modern warfare simulator. The total war experience."

quoted from gamespot! u cant say that an unreliable source
A simulator brings real life attributes into a game,
Take ARMA, you get shot in arma, you cant run as fast, seat switching? no.

BF2 is a arcade war game, Project Reality brings it closer to a "simulator" but its still no where near it, also, if this game was a "simulator" you couldnt fly your F-15 Bomber over a airstrip and magically get 4 500lb bombs :)
