Shooting At Heli's With ORDINARY Guns

I've taken a couple of Helicopters down with a pistol - a la John McLane - in my day. Ironically I've never killed a pilot yet.

I whipped out my pistol to finished it off, just for kicks. I was a bit bummed however when it said that I merely "killed" the guy. It didn't show that I pistoled him.

Thats probably coz he bailed just before the chopter exploded and died from the explotion

Well I do it if
1. I know I am going to die
2. I am just board and want to shoot something
3. The Heli is in flames and is gunna be dead in a few seconds (although it is stealing a kill)
Other than that if you have a PKM or a M95 (I think that is the 2nd sniper unlock) you should shoot it since those guns do good damage. Then if you have a good shot with the M95 shoot the heli guys since that gun can go through the glass on the heli.

...Otherwise I just take cover. It's quite fun to play as Rebels on Surge and shoot down Russian helis with RPGs though. AT is one helluva fun class once you get the DAO

I only shoot at heli's when i play gulf of oman and im on the crane with a support weapon (which isnt often, i usually only go up there with support if im playing with my brother and he is using anti-tank or sniper and will always need ammo). I have never blown a heli up from shooting at it with a normal weapon but it probably is possible if you do it for long enough.

The M95 does a fair bit of damage to a chopper compared to other handheld weaponry (other than the AT rockets of course).

So, if you see a smoking chopper, shoot it with a couple of M95 rounds and it can go down.

I've had the unfortunate noob fortune of being killed by some random sniper as I limped back to the carrier on Oman(Cobra). It was probably the most embarrassing thing that's happened to me in BF2.

By the way does the grenade launcher count as a ORDINARY gun? Becuase I've killed blackhawk pilots (and have been killed my self) with BF2's fine line of grenade launchers. I've also been able to kill two people with hand grenades in a hovering in a MI-17...seen it happen too, that and claymores doin the job.

Although it isn't a smallarm, one frontal cockpit blast with the AT can leave the pilot smoking in his seat and the rest of the crew spinning out of control.

you would be suprised! sometimes the most blatantly obviouse snipe spot is the best..

Yeah I've sniped a couple of helis in the past. The best weapon for this is the M-95, but any other sniper rifle (bolt-action is best) will often do if he's on fire.

I just shot a Cobra 20 times to kill it. After 19 it was on fire, number 20 finished it off. So it's not the most reliable way to kill a chopper unless you can get the headshot.
